An allied invasion of Germany in 1939-40 just wasn't feasible it would have been a desperate move. The allies had zero offensive advantage over Germany. Germany had 4 fighting age men for every 1 french. In such demographic circumstances defensive strategems are preferable. If you want to truly blame someone blame Belgium for pulling out of the alliance with Britain and France, or blame Britain and France for allowing Germany to remilitarise the Rhine land which led to the aforementioned Belgian neutrality.

How serious was the non-actions of France and Great Britain? According to the German General Jodl at the Nuremberg War Trials he said: “ *if we did not collapse already in the year 1939 that was due only to the fact that during the Polish campaign, the approximately 110 French and British divisions in the West were held completely inactive against the 23 German divisions* ”
@annoyingbstard9407
@annoyingbstard9407 2 года назад
Two points: firstly Poland was not seen in very good light in the West having joined forces with Hitler and helped the Nazis invade Czechoslovak just a few months earlier. Many thought we should not be helping them when their former “friends” turned on them, and secondly the British Expeditionary Force never got into position on the Belgian border until the end of October - by which time Poland was defeated.

Not only let down during the Invasion of Poland but many Poles helped defend Britain during the battle of Britain and were probably the best allied pilots in that theatre. At the end of the war, Britain voted to send them back where many were executed by the Red Army. So much for British honour. Vale to the brave Poles!

@@jacoburban5736 do you really believe the Allies would be ready to fight the USSR after ww2. They had enough Problems and were not in a State to fight another bloody War. The Public would not Support them. Also dont forget that this was not the Same Red army which Fought so poorly against the Wehrmacht at 1941. This Red Army stood against 3/4 of the Wehrmacht. They were a battle hardened Army. The Eastern Front was much more Brutal than the Western Front. Even if they would fight the Soviets and push them Back. It would take Years.

@@derinfomann4581 sadly that's true, what's even more sad is that this could have been prevented if the western coutries were more active during the first phase of the war. USSR held back with the attack to the last moment because they wanted to be sure that UK and France are doing nothing to support Poland. Also Germany were critically open on the west front and they just counted on Allies being a total dicks to Poland and eventually it appeared that Germnas were good at maths ;)

@@moonshit After the Fall of France and British Forces were Forced to leave Mainland Europe, Couldnt just Invade France again. A Invasion like D-Day was at that time almost Impossible. Before D-Day happened, the was a Try to secure a Beachhead but the Troops that Day be all Killed. Even the Allies were Skeptical that even a Naval-Invasion could Work and the Landings itself were already Bloody despite its being late in the War. Even if they manage to secure a Beachhead after the Fall of France. They Still would have to face the fully Armed Wehrmacht. They would just be Pushed back.
@moonshit
@moonshit 3 года назад
@@derinfomann4581 Totally agree but by the first phase I meant when Wermacht was occupied by invading Poland. At that time it would be relatively easy for UK to send more troops to the continenet and invade Germany with France. They missed the opportunity. In fact Allies thought that Hitler will not attack them because of heavy fortification on the border. What happened next we all know.

The problem was, like is common in alliances, a lack of clear understanding of mutual capabilities. Poland's mobilization system was rather obsolete in 1939 ; We were unable to conduct a large part of the mobilization process in secret. However, France and Great Britain could accomplish that, and assumed that Poland could as well. "Delaying mobilization" for France and GB was not that big a deal, as they simply delayed the final step of the process a bit, which was not logistically intensive nor particularly complex and combat units would've achieved most of their readiness already. For Poland, however, delaying mobilization was a crippling blow ; The western allies did not understand this fact, and thus thought pressuring Poland to delay mobilization was worth the risk, seeing as the potential payoff was preserving peace on the continent. And of course after 1938 and the partitioning of Czechoslovakia, Poland was actually quite unpopular in the West and had very little political capital in Paris and London, so people weren't particularly inclined to listen.

Blade57331 England and France had to be careful due to the USSR, as they signed a non aggression treaty with Germany so if England and France attacked Germany, it could've sparked war against the USSR, which would mean 3 extremely strong opponents against us

And we, Poles, weren't scared to fight the enemies even when there were 4 of them. @InfinityUnleashed

Reason they forgot Stalin is because the Soviet was also the "winner" on WW2 and became a even more Super Power than before together with the allies. IF the Soviet wasn't the winner, they will also blame Stalin for all the atrocities he did. Like what they all say, loser's in war will always get the most hatred and blaming than what the winner actually did.

My Great grandad was Polish, he fought in the struggle against Germany and Russia and was captured and given a decision to either join the German army or to be sent to Siberia to do hard labour. He chose to join the German army and was then captured again in 1944 near Normandy by British troops. Those British troops then realised he was Polish, so he was sent into the Polish Police Force in Scotland.

Fun fact. Carol II of Romania asked the Polish government if they wanted the Romanians to enter the war on their side, but the Polish government refused saying that the Polish army and government needed a safe retreat passage and, if Romania entered the war, the Luftwaffe would've bombarded the Romanian infrastructure and it would've been impossible for the Polish army and government to retreat. The Polish government and army fled in Western Europe via Romania, and many Polish refugees established themselves in Romania. This angered Hitler badly. Maybe that's why he decided to force Romania to give Northern Transylvania to Hungary. Also, the Polish treasury was kept safely in Romania, at the Tismana Monastery until the end of the war.

They were forced to leave Allied countries and sent to Poland where most of them were killed by communists for fighting side by side with Allies and weren't invited to Victory Parade in London 1946. Apart from that during occupation (both German and Soviet) a lot of civilians were slaughtered, humiliated, even genocide of Poles happened in Wolyn.

The Soviet Union DID play the most important role in defeating Germany, which is obvious if you look at the numbers of casualties on all fronts. It would have probably lost without the help of the Allies, but without the SU, the Allies would have definitly lost. Plus the West probably was very happy that Stalin and Hitler DID bleed each other out so much... just not enough to get rid of the SU afterwards. Don´t forget that the Entende already interveened in the russian civil war and tried to destroy communism before it could really start, interfering in internal, russian affairs for selfish reasons!

Germans settled there for a few centuries, and the polish seeing the threat of a germanic state right above their borders sent the Crusaders (later naming themselves as the teutonic order) to slay these germans. Well... it all happened around 800 years ago so I don't think that counts.

The Poles were sold out on so many levels.....thank god for the Polish efforts on the Enigma machine, which saved the Allies. Without Britain cracking the codes of the Enigma machine, which the Poles had started, this program would probably be in German. We owe the Poles a great debt, those airmen and soldiers who escaped fought bravely as pilots in the Battle of Britain, and later in capturing Monte Cassino in Italy. They rarely get the credit they deserve.

@player400_official
@player400_official 3 года назад
Yea, even heavier version of the TKS Tankette could outgunned and outspeeded the Panzers, not to mention 7TP. That was also the case with bombers - PZL P37 bomber was in every aspect a better plane than German Doorniers and Heinkles of the time. And also with anti-tank weaponry - including a famous Wz. 35 rife. A weapon, that was as light as a standard infantry rifle of the time and still it could disable every tank in the world (at the time) in a distance of 400 meters.
