I feel like this is the problem with horror films today-people are so used to the OH AH of a jump scare, that when a slow burn horror that DOES NOT RELY on jump scares to scare the shit out of the audience does come around, people go "eh" instead of realizing "oh maybe this is what makes good horror good." because the invisible man touches on primordial terror: shit we can't see, shit we don't know, shit we can't see coming. It's why we fear death, it's why we fear the dark, it's why we fear the unknown-it's something we can't see, or fight. And that's why Invisible Man works. At least for me it worked-I got major Paranormal Activity 2007 vibes from this film and I like that.

The trailer for this, honestly, just seemed like a bad Hollow Man sequel, rather than a reboot for a Universal's Classic Monsters character. I haven't seen it yet but it IS a shame that so many films ruin things through the trailer these days.

you're right. i've seen several trailers for this movie and i feel like i've seen the movie. plus, in this day and age where there are cameras everywhere, it would not be that hard to prove this person exists.

One of the perks about not watching much TV is that I more often then not ever see the trailers unless you look for them yourself on the internet. I didn't even know about this moving being a thing till a handful of days ago.

This movie does not try to make the audience belive she is just insane. It is clear that the Invisible man is not a manifistation of her imagination from the first time he interacts with her. I had three grips with the movie. (spoiler) 1. When she jams the pen in her arm she stops bleeding seconds after. 2. Does Adrian have three suits? Other why weren't his brother flickering in when attacking Sydney? Did Adrian fix it so fast? 3. Who was it that killed Adrian in the end? It could not have been the main character as she could not take of the suit in time before Adrian died. Also if it where her then how did the suit fit? I don't think optical lenses stretch that good.

Still doesn't top the 1933 classic Masterpiece!!!

5:20 Oh My God I was so happy that I never saw that part in any of the trailers, I never get scared when it comes to jump scares or at least I rarely do but I’ll admit that part got me! Why would they ruin that intense scene in a trailer?? Smh

I feel like a lot of people just want their horror movies to be straight-up action movies. I never saw the Friday the 13th movies are Halloween movies as actual horror movies because it feels like there's way too much action and fighting for it to be scary. I feel like this movie had a good mix of both action and horror where there are scenes where you don't know where he is which is actually scaring. Yes you know he's invisible but the question is where is he. The darkness is scary because we can't see very well and it can be very unsettling and it's an invisible man you can have that same sensation in a brightly-lit room. People forget what the Paranormal Activity movies were actually really scary for the first two at least before they became beaten to death they were actually scary

when she was explaining to her sister that she had the suit as evidence I was yelling at the screen "THEN WHY DID YOU LEAVE IT AT THE HOUSE?! " seriously, she had someone drive an hour to get there just to take it out and then hide it in the closet. And I agree with you guys, she should have put the damn suit on.

Somebody was taking care of the dog... dude was "cremated", inheritance papers were drawn up, she's committed, all kinds of days have gone by... who's feeding the dog?... I knew dude wasn't dead when I saw him after all that. And how the F did he get all that paint out of all those moving camera gadgets and crevices in the sink and then put it back on? It's a onesy right?

I think you had missed the point of the beginning. Cameras were panned to have you feel that he was there amidst the uplifting portions of the movie, instilling a constant dread throughout. It was also a great build-up within the amount of time they had for this movie, and for me, it allowed for me to feel the same sense of uncertainty as the protagonist was feeling. Awesome. Granted, the trailer did show too much. Yet, with so little marketing, how else were you to convey that this is a movie worth watching without such a trailer. There was obviously no lead-up to this film and hardly any other advertising as such.

I'm kinda proving your point because until today I didn't know about this movie, only that it's probably based on same book as the 1933 adaptation. And to me it felt like the first hour was playing with the fact that I know for 100% sure that he's there and he's gonna fuck their shit up. First thing we see about him is that he has no restraints when it comes to violence, then we hear what kind of genius he is, then we see few happy moments and instead of trying to guess the direction of the movie, I spend the first hour in desperation knowing that the there's actual physical threat to them literally in every scene and it's not the matter of if, it's how and when. Unreliable narrator can be interesting but I personally found this approach more refreshing. Show the threat and proceed to sadistically torture characters that were actually really likable. I didn't know the tone or age rating though so I was also had to be guessing how severe that torture is going to be. So to me in my circumtances it was almost perfect; dude who has watched some horror, not enough predict everything but enough to have expectations to be subverted and someone who also didn't see the trailer (I don't think it received any marketing where I live). To me there were only three things that really broke my suspence of disbelieve: how her sister reacted to e-mail, how the suit stopped malfunctioning when that would have actually been inconvenient and how the guards showed in like 5 pairs of two, always with so much time between them that they conveniently didn't see what happened. But honesly they were only kinda small irritations and by no means ruined anything. But one thing that I found interesting was that the dog didn't die. We all know dead dog syndrome and I think the film knew that. From the moment I saw it I knew it's going reveal the bad guy at one point and then just when protagonist thinks she's escaped, she sees the dog dead and the invisible man pummels her. But when that confrontations happened, the dog didn't die and thus probably also didn't attack him. I found that piece of characterization interesting. He controlled the dog with shock collar like he tried to control everyone else around him, too but he didn't want to kill him and the dog wasn't scared of him or really hostile towards him, just more lile confused because it smelled him but saw nothing so something was wrong. To me that tells that he wasn't abusive towards the dog, just overbearing. That also supports the fact that before hid bloodlust got better of him, OR more likely when events spired out his CONTROL, he restrained himself from killing anyone. Narcissists think what they do is always justified so most likely thought he only did what was absolutely necessary and so while was a monster, I don't think his intentions were pure evil. Mind you, I'm not defending him, just saying that he was neutral evil thinking ve was lawful evil. And the ending was definitely one of the better oned in horror genre. To kill a monster you must become a monster. 9/10, I can't blame director and writers for goofs in marketing department. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't tralers and other advertisement usually done by completely different team?

*Someone Needs to Adapt* The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen properly - The Invisible Man was so Interesting in that Comic.. He was pretty much like he was in this movie only more demented.

Everyday people’s minds don’t go to “Invisible Man” when they see shit floating. They are usually too stunned to do anything or think of ghosts. And the whole point of the suit is to make her sound crazy to other people, not the audience watching. Lastly, how does she know how to operate the suit if she puts it on?

He puts his hand on the glass door of the bathtub and it looks like he's touching it bare handed, but he's supposed to be wearing a freaking suit full of cameras!!!, so they did good at removing that stupid part.

This movie made me legitimately uncomfortable. One of the best decisions I made long ago was to stop watching trailers. One of the smartest things I've ever done and I am not a particularly smart individual.

I'd not seen the trailer. A gf wanted me to watch it with her and we never did. 1. Slashing her sister was stupid and explained nothing. slo mo it 2. i had no idea that she was not insane. No idea. It would have been a better movie had she been insane. invisible could have just been the memory of that psycho 3. no death certificate? Faking ur death? NOBODY ELSE would be aware of his military grade invention that he used solely for stalking his gf?

Can confirm. Had a great time with the film and managed to avoid the trailer going in.

I had the experience of seeing Paranormal Activity in theaters without seeing a trailer or hearing anything about it, it made the movie 100x better

I haven't see the trailers before watching it, and I loved it. And knowing he was invisible didn't ruin it for me, it's more a "where is he" experience for me. For the hopital scene, don't forget she's under strong medication, her mind can be blurry LITTLE SPOILER We see his breathe in the cold so it'l logical that pepperspray works on him

I have a gripe about a moment in the trailer. When she's outside of her house, near the beginning of the movie, how can you see Adrian's breath when he's standing beside her. I mean, he's in a FULL suit. I GUESS the suit could've been pretty thin or something, but still...

I assume the reason she didn't pick up the gun immediately is because she, understandably, thought the guards would reflex-shoot her because she is an escaping... uh, for lack of a better term, crazy person, who has been seen to resist the staff.

The scene that had me freak the hell out was that freaking transition to the eggs cooking. Damn eggs were scarier than the rest of the movie.

The movie was cool 7/10 for me, but I noticed a couple of things that didn't make much sense(before I watched the video): 1. Painting takes more than 30 seconds to get rid of. 2. When she went back to his house and found the suit, she had a phone. So why TF didn't she just take a video and send that to everyone or drop it on Instagram? 3. Adrian faked his own death, so people that went to the house to cover all the furniture just left the dog there? (Maybe Adrian was invisible and put the dog to sleep with a tranquilizer and hide him, so that is not a big one) 4. (SPOILER) Apparently, the suit gives you super strength? First, if the girl was in the suit at the end, she was unable to overpower the guy the entire film but did it when using the suit. Also, Black dude was Jacked as fuck and probably quite heavy but he was thrown around like a ragdoll. 5. When the invisible man kills a bunch of Cops, the girl waited until all the cops died to pick up a gun from one of the bodies and shoot the mofo. 6. Didn't that luxurious looking restaurant have cameras or the detention center for sure, it would have been more than enough to prove her innocence. I'm sure there are more. Sorry if I am trashing a movie that a lot of people liked, now I'm gonna watch the video and see if Alex noticed all those issues. I still enjoyed the film very much for the story, the acting, sound, cinematography. Edit: Some of my points were talked about in the video, but I realized one more thing. 7. The entire lawyer and inheritance money scenes were only in this movie to introduce the brother for the twist. All the scenes with the brother and the characters celebrating were pointless. Look, I bought you a ladder. They could have cut 15 minutes if they just introduced the brother via condolences through a phone call or something. They could have the suit malfunction when she hits him with the pan and still have the scene with the sister getting killed without having my #2 complaint. The twist would have been the same even if we had seen the bro only one time. Just an idea to save time and have better pacing.

The dude lived in a walled off mansion but needed a shock collar on the dog.

I watched it the other night and didn't see the trailer beforehand so I had no expectiations but it turn out surprisingly good.

An hour of "Omg I'm a victim, help me", we get it, Cecilia, you're traumatized. Please, move on. The last hour gets fun and interesting, Cecilia starts fighting back and everything gets real. My final thought : What if Cecilia was the manipulator all along ? She seemed very suspect at the end. The poor victim who couldn't even step outside without having a panic attack now schemes an intricate plan to execute Adrian on camera with an invisible suit and as she exits the mansion all smug and confident she easily convince the cop to let her leave.

Elizabeth Moss' facial expression are some of the best in the business When you consider how bad this could have possibly been and wasn't, you appreciate it being quite good even more.

@ 18:59, The whole point is that he is super aggressive, and loses his temper easily. He's an abusive boyfriend, obsessed with dominance & violence. It's very believable that he would beating people's asses. I thought they made that very clear..

I like this movie but I got annoyed at the cops in the hospital! They saw that she's not crazy and yet the point gun at her and yell "DON'T DO ANYTHING STUPID!!" I was yelling at my tv " YOU JUST SAW THAT HE'S THERE!!!!" Just another annoying trope in a lot of horror movies!

Everything is a so-called trope. Even subverting audience expectations has become one these days, just as the dark/surprise endings has. To paraphrase something I was told long ago, "Everything is cliche until it happens to you."
