Non-revenue? Imagine paying for water. Our city has free water, and no meters. We have so much water underground, it's crazy!

Brilliant video and so informative mixed with great dad humour. Need to get one of these monitors or is it something council roll out??

Thanks mate, unfortunately you can’t get it until your water authority roll it out

Percentage error of the mechanical flowmeter? Surely the rules say it must be indicating exactly equal or less than the actual usage. A suburb/city of meters with a few percent error would account for a lot of the unbilled usage.

fantastic video! a sprinkle of humor in a very informative video. chef's kiss perfection. BTW, why is stopping those leaks better for the environment? water leaking where you were collecting for that test is just going into a creek. Is it the chemicals in the water that is of concern?
@thinklist
@thinklist Год назад
Thanks mate. It’s often considered bad mostly because of the erosion that is can cause
@tychosis
@tychosis Год назад
@@thinklist I would imagine that water leakage in places that get really cold can cause a lot of expensive damage, too. (You should see the condition of some of the roads over here in the states...)
@thinklist
@thinklist Год назад
@@tychosis yep absolutely correct. Can cause erosion etc
@tychosis
@tychosis Год назад
@@thinklist Not to mention that the loss of water overall is a bad thing. Here in the states, we're almost constantly on the brink of a water crisis--you should see the sad state of some of the lakes out west, they're always reaching record lows. It's what happens when droves of people move into areas where people aren't meant to live haha. I would imagine you face the same issues in Australia with how brutal the conditions are in many parts of the country.
@thinklist

A very well-done video, Captis should be very pleased with the result! Do they sell through distributors internationally, or on,y direct from Australia? (I’d like to know the general ballpark cost, but their site just says “request a quote” :-/)

@thinklist

1000 volts
@vylbird8014
@vylbird8014 Год назад
Exactly one thousand volts, and a volt is a measure of electrical potential difference. Anything up to around 50V is 'safe' regarding electrocution danger, though still enough to easily start a fire. Mains put sockets are 110 or 230V, depending in your country (using RMS measurement, so the peak is 1.4 times that). 1000V is a great deal of voltage, and more than you are likely to encounter unless you work in electrical engineering or with heavy industrial equipment.

Time to desalinize water from the oceans.
@vylbird8014
@vylbird8014 Год назад
Desalination has a very high energy cost. So it's expensive, and generally used only as a last resort option.
@tomnps1671
@tomnps1671 Год назад
@@vylbird8014 I agree with you. Most people on the planet drink water that would make me sick. So it seems to me that we may have reached the "last resort option" in some places.

In my country, whatever is below your feet on your property is yours. So Nestlé is the largest bottler, and they have wells all over the place stealing water to bottle. All for free (not counting the energy it takes to pump, and the normal property costs).
@thinklist
@thinklist Год назад
I have seen that video going around about that, it’s crazy
@timramich
@timramich Год назад
@@thinklist Where I live, there are 2 such pumping stations on the same road. Maybe 1.5 miles apart. Tractor trailers go in and out all day, every day. Trucksload of water constantly. I think it's 8,000 gallons per tanker. They should have to pay some sort of tax to the township as a privilege, to lower all of our taxes, because it's our water they're stealing to bottle and sell for a massive profit. They're using beyond any normal amount of water. Beyond even a normal industrial amount (since places that need a ton of water would legally be forced to build next to a river). Even a place that uses that much for cooling could just dump it into a drainage field and it would seep back down to the well.
