Sanctuaries are part of the newest Isle update alongside many other anticipated features, and while those have been massively successful and improved the game considerably, the former did not. In fact, Sanctuaries are a steep dive in design quality in comparison to the rest of the update, and today we will discuss how bad it truly is, because believe me, Sanctuaries are Absolutely Awful.
Hope you enjoy the video and see you in the next one, stay safe :)

I think if they just add hiding shots for small dinos all over the map that would be much better, hollow logs, small dens, torn bushes maybe, so if a juvi is smart and hops from hiding spot to hiding spot they can still travel and stay safe if there careful enough, path of titans has map design where there’s a lot of small holes and dens that small Dino’s can use to hide which works well, I feel like they are just kinda over complicating it

I mean hiding spots are kind of already a thing, you spawn, you get diet, you hide somewhere till you need to either eat or drink again. Sanctuaries don't sound to bad, because you can kind of skip that baby stage IF you want to that is. They just need to fix it so players can't abuse it to a ridiculous degree.

Ya know, sanctuaries ironically are making “sit in a random bush in the woods and semi-afk grow” MORE appealing for experienced players. They just leave their spot for food/water, and once they’re full just avoid the sanctuary hotspot until they’re big enough they think they can fend for themselves.

how are sanctuaries making u sit in a random bush and semi afk grow?? You cant be in a sanctuary too long before bees start attacking u (unless u are a troodon) most of the time its hard to find red mushrooms and when u do and fill up its time to get out because those bees will start to sting u soon. Its a place to get some valuable treasure and get out. Atleast for herbis. For carnivores its a place where there might be some easier kills and even so its not so easy because of the dense vegetation.

Exactly! In nature there are so many hidy holes for smaller animals to go and hide in would make more sense. Also it would be better to impliment more prompts for nesting, or allow for juvis to spawn into existing herds, even if there was a "waiting list" for ppl to check and see if a certain dino has ppl wanting to be nested as. Gotta love how when the community is the most unified it’s when they all hate something, jokes aside I totally agree, the bees being the biggest problem, imagine that you just grew to say… 35% growth and then all of a sudden BAM swarmed by bees and absolutely obliterated, of course they could make it differently but then an adult Carno walks in, murders you along with everyone else and runs out before it dies. In the middle it’s a bit of both, there is simply no way bees can stay in their planned form.

Ideally the bees would slowly get more aggressive as you get closer to the "get the fuck out" growth, and then remaining fully deadly past that. Imagine getting stung a few times, enough to be annoying. Slowly the stings start getting more and more, until you're like, fuck this, then you leave. This is how I assumed it'd be done. Sanctuaries are the tip of the iceberg of what is going wrong in The Isle development. It's like they don't even understand why and how players play this game. If I want linear gameplay, I choose one of the countless games that follow a narrative. But survival games are about freedom. The freedom of exploration, and most of all, the freedom of deciding what you want to do with your time for YOURSELF. For many years, The Isle allowed you to find your own pace and style of playing. Find a quiet spot and raise a family, socialize with other players, explore the map and enjoy the scenery, look for pvp... But now the game mechanics FORCE you to play in a very specific way. With the sanctuaries, current diet, migration zones and the abhorrent change to the stam system, you are always just running to the mission marker on your compass, then to the next one, and all this while you are constantly out of stam and starving. There is literally no time at all for chilling with your friends, nesting, choosing a territory and kill everything that enters it, whatever people normally do on The Isle. Also, where are people supposed to nest when sanctuaries are mandatory? As soon as the hatches are big enough they have to leave the family behind to go to sanctuaries. Or you nest inside or close to this war zone. It just makes no sense. The map should offer areas of natural protection (vegetation and caves) and special food for juveniles, not a mandatory war zone.

Only herbivores are forced to take part in the sanctuary/migration system, carnivores get to choose where they want to go, AI spawns everywhere and players are constantly falling off cliffs in active servers, providing free food in the areas surrounding migration zones. @@TheJakebriscoe Not only unbalanced, but fundamentally un-fun. The only fun thing to do in this game is pvp, and for the more social players it used to be nesting. But nesting is now impossible, since you are forced to travel all the time. And they openly say they don't want players to use this game as "call of duty." But what else are players supposed to do? There is literally nothing else in this game but grow-fight-die-grow-fight-die. So in order to discourage afk growing and pvp, they force players to travel with horrible stam regen and high hunger/thirst. This is not fun, either. Hey X Zaguer. I'd like to add on to your sanctuaries Video, because I'd argue that sanctuaries are FORCED on some players. When you are a Herbivore (includes Galli), you are FORCED to go to sanctuaries to get your DIETARY requirements. Your ONLY food option you have as a juvenile is the sanctuary mushrooms, and you get no other options of food until you are a certain size. I don't Like the sanctuaries either, as they are extremely chaotic; but if we were able to follow migrations as well as having the option to go a sanctuary, then I'd consider sanctuaries a little bit better, but not as well implemented and devised as they should be. The Developers stated that sanctuaries were going to be OPTIONAL (and to an extent they were right); But HALF the roster is FORCED to go there at least once, unless they want to eat grass and starve until they eventually grow big enough to follow migrations. Forgot to mention that no one wants to wait 1-2 hours just to follow a migration, and no one wants to try getting the nutrients and leaving the death cages. This glaring issue has caused me to stop playing herbi on evrima entirely (which is saying a lot since I'm a tenonto main). I like the idea the devs "were" going for, but forcing an already underpopulated group of players to visit certain death at least once, has already started doing damage to the players and the community as a whole. (also nice vid btw)

@viktornoren9504
@viktornoren9504 7 месяцев назад
@@brandonwhiting7229 so the way it is "optional" is to also temporarily forego another game mechanic, diets? Will the 1 carbs nutrient you spawn with not have disappeared by the time you are grown enough (maybe varies with species)? If so now you have to engage with the new stamina system as a juvi with the malnourished penalty as you make your way to the migration point past the many choke points? I know this is all possible but doesn't sound fun nor intuitive to a non veteran player. Also sounds like a pretty scathing review of the sanctuaries in itself to be willing to do all that or something similar.
@brandonwhiting7229
@brandonwhiting7229 7 месяцев назад
@@viktornoren9504 your initial diet when you spawn lasts 20 minutes on top of that when your nutrient goes away you then have 10 minutes to find your diet nutrients before the debuffs start, tis more than enough time to find the diets you need to survive. You get in, you eat, you leave, and then you go to your migration zone and engage with your diet and migration, that in now way forgoes the ENTIRE diet system. Your given more than enough time to survive with your spawn diet, once your migration zone pops up then you just travel there and graze along the way if needed, if a sanctuary is close to your spawn then cool, go there and get the small boost and then leave and travel to your migration once it pops up. I as a veteran player with almost 5k hours in the isle and near 500 hours in the stress test have found the sanctuaries to be a neat and welcome addition and i look forward to seeing the finished versions of them. Tried out the new update. Spawned in as a juvi pachy and headed to a sanctuary. Got gang jumped by several adult Troodons, while in the sanctuary. Do troodons not get affected by the bees due to their size? Is this a glitch? Regardless, kinda shit how adult dinos can find a workaround to allow them to abuse sanctuaries to get easy meals. I swear a better solution would be just to place a bunch of caves and crevices around the map juvies could hide in. Maybe even keep the sanctuary vegetation around, but not point to it directly - you’ll have to find it yourself by exploring. Also letting the red mushrooms be more rare, but grow all over the map, while making more small AI spawn for small predators (maybe even allow them to sniff for small AI specifically?). You can even have separate diets for adult and baby predators, with adults preferring larger prey and juvies preferring frogs, chickens and similar creatures.

The main thing that really annoys me is the fact that migration zones don't show up for juvies anymore. I somewhat get it - you need some sort of clue that you are too big for "safe zones", but... This is like a very "eh" way to do it. Why not just remove the marker for sanctuaries when you are big enough?.. Why is the game pretty much forcing me to go there??? What would be nice is if they, like, added a little bee icon while you're in a sanctuary. If you are starting to get too big - the icon will show up. For now it's just a slightly angry bee... And when you will get too big... A very angry bee. A furious bee. Would be nice if they replaced bees with wasps. And made them actually do serious damage to adults... They don't need sanctuaries they just need the mushrooms all over the map, and ai as well. Then there could be a carnivore equivalent in ai form, like .. ava. It really feels like they realized how terrible it is to get your diets on this map and with the migration system that they HAD to implement sanctuaries as a bandaid trying to fix the massive problem, not enough food availability especially as fresh spawn. All these things they're doing recently make you feel like a bot, go here go there instead of free open play where things are available all over but naturally you'll find players/prey/food more common in certain areas, your self. And the stamina is a joke, don't introduce a huge nerf and call it realism without giving players more opportunities to fix it themselves, hydrating, staying fed, temperature.. what stam is now should be you're doing poorly on everything, not the standard. All it does is makes you want to die because as a carnivore they've made ALL species turn into wolves having to follow their food across the map whilst simultaneously nerfing the means to do it. I got so bored playing gateway (not to mention broke my legs way more than I ever did in spiro, being careful even) I straight up didn't even care if someone walked up to me to bite my face, it would just put me out of my boring misery. What bugged me about them was that as a carnovore player, you don't have access to any food, unless you stumble across another player. I had multiple cases where I spawned in, went all the long way to one of those senctuaries and there was just noone. It was a full server with around 100 people online. I get the point that you want to motivate players to kill and hunt, but that doesn't work without any prey. They should really add some kind of AI or carcesses in there. Maybe, to still give a reason to hunt other players, make them so they don't give you nutriens. But just giving herbivores some magic mushrooms that give them a perfect diat with all 3 nutriens and carnevores can die, is a very weird choice.

One solution could be that herbis are able to spawn near one sanctuary, while carnis can spawn near another, but they're separated by enough distance that it's not practical to try and access the other. Also, I feel a very easy fix is that getting into the sanctuary itself should depend on the dinosaurs size. If you're too large, you simply cannot get in at all. This way we don't have to worry about the crappy trees trying to keep large Dinos out (because clearly they can't). By the time the bees start to sting, it forces players to leave before they grow too large to fit out the exit. Maybe their growth would even temporarily pause until they leave, to reduce the chances of them getting stuck on the way out, similar to how PoT pauses growth if you're in a tight area. I don't know if carni sanctuaries would work all that well, as they will always try to eat each other. I could only see it working if there were specific sanctuaries for each carni, but with how many Dinos will be on the roster, this seems very impractical as time goes on.

Not only are the sanctuaries in need of rework,, as you pointed out there aren't even sanctuaries for land carnivores. And the diet is absolutely nonsensical. As an example, I have raised an Omniraptor, in solo gameplay, five times now. Throughout my growth, I have killed some chickens, frogs, goats, crabs, sea turtles, and one rabbit. Note, that's a total of one rabbit between five characters. Of the things I have eaten, only that damn singular rabbit is on an omniraptor diet...and it doesn't even provide enough sustenance to fill out so much as a single diet hex. This is complete bollocks! Who designed this!?

the whole update disappointed me tbh. The map is MASSIVE, so you need to get around to find food. But what did they do? Made it so dinosaurs take 2 years to regain stamina, so you just end up dying of starvation. The sanctuary that I was at (and im assuming the rest are similar) was extremely small, so I had to travel through cracks and crevices which is ridiculous because how am I supposed to find food without seeing where it is?? The whole update disappointed me, I was excited but I'm not gonna play gateway until they fix the god awful stamina.

I really like the idea of it but from what i've heard and gameplay i've seen it really seems like a subpar feature. Adding a biome of dense underbrush for fresh spawns is a nice idea to work with but when anything else can enter it kinda ruins the whole idea of a safe zone.

If they wanted to give fresh spawns a "head start" then JUST HAVE THEM SPAWN WITH FULL FOOD, *especially* carnivores! I spawned in as a baby cerato, nearly starved within 5 minutes because carnis spawn with so little food, found a fish, oops, apparently not supposed to eat fish because my health *kept dropping* and I died. Thanks Dondi, I hate it. I swear, the devs are TRYING to make the game the most frustrating thing ever. They NEED to bring back global chat, at least species specific chat, because walking in giant circles until you starve to death alone is STILL not fun.

I think it could work with some change. Making sanctuaries more numerous and smaller could could still provide a safe haven from larger dinos, giving new players a chance to learn agaist each other. Instead of a mushroom offering all 3 nutriants, each sanctuary offers 1 kind of nutriants to continue to encourage exploration. Basicly what the game already does but limited to new baby dinos.

I propose an idea to replace Sanctuaries, directly tieing to the use of Sauropods as well--select areas in Gateway where Sauropods can knock down trees, gradually transforming a forest or rainforest into a tropical grassland. The location would have a health bar, altering the environment based on its status. If minimally affected, it remains suitable for smaller dinosaurs like juveniles, Dyrosaurus, Hypsi, and Troodon. As the area is cleared, larger dinosaurs gain access, and the environment transitions from rainforest to woodland, then bushland, and finally a grassland. Each stage unlocks different food sources for herbivores and specific carnivores. Animals with preferences for particular stages are notified by smell, ensuring they can easily identify the preferred environment.

Yeahhh honestly I think this could be fixed if 1. More hiding spots for smaller Dino’s were around the map anyways. And 2. Migrations worked for babies so your regular food spawned normally as well. That way babies can choose to go to either the sanctuary or try to rough it out. That would immediately lower how many baby herbis could be found in sanctuaries and thus make it less likely for carnivores to go there for reliable food.
@somerandomperson6511
@somerandomperson6511 7 месяцев назад
It is blatantly clear that both sanctuaries and migration zones were made to cater to carnivores at the expense of herbivores and omnivores. It does not help juveniles, it does not help herbivores or omnivores, and it does not make the game more exciting or fun, all it does it funnel juvies and herbivores in to death traps where they can get jumped by 20 carnos and ceratos. If herbivores do not go to these artificial hot spots, they are punished with huge stat debuffs from lack of diet, meanwhile carnivores can find diet food at all corners of the map and grow in safe, less trafficked areas and then make the trip to the migration zones or sanctuaries once they reach adult to slaughter juvies with ease

I really don't know why sanctuaries are a thing considering its so easy to survive juvie life as basically anything as the foliage is so dense you can walk through the shrubbery as any species and be basically invisible. I don't personally do the "get fat and afk in a bush" strat, ever, because i don't think the game is ONLY fun when you're adult, and even though i'm not skilled at gameplay i've been able to get every species to adult during solo play lol rather than having sanctuary zones, i'd make the 'baby mushrooms' spawn randomly and somewhat rarely everywhere on the map - make them non-edible past a certain growth, and either make a carni equivalent that spawns much more rarely, or make them edible for carnis too but for a shorter amount of time / it only fills up a small amount of your food bar or gives you some other debuff ( as naturally carni gameplay is intended to be more difficult to herbivores )

Another solution would be to make them a option, atm you cant even eat your normal diet as a juvi. If we would have the choice of go to the sanctuary or just go towards the migration zone like normal all would be fixed. Now we just forced to go into the deathpit. I like the concept but making it a must go there was the wrong decision. I'm sure they will make it allot better in time. Hope we don't have to wait another year for it XD .

One thing I think could work would be removing the sanctuaries altogether and taking the red mushrooms and putting them all across the map instead. The diet would basically work like it currently does, but once you reach a certain growth percentage, you no longer get any nutrients from them, and they turn into the equivalent of a "leaf", so you can still eat them, but they won't really benefit you, which would encourage foraging for adults foods.

I have a few ideas to try and improve sanctuaries without removing them completely: 1 - different sanctuaries for different diets + locations they can go. Land dinos have the sanctuaries we have right now but expand them a bit, add separate ones for herbivores and carnivores (Omnivores go to either). The ones for land dinos are the ones we have now but more improved (ill get to that later) fliers would get sanctuaries up in caves or canyons that allow them to avoid land and semi aquatics (climbers, when we get them, could technically also get up here) and semi aquatics get their own areas with mangroves and underwater logs with small tunnels so beipis can avoid crocs. 2 - food that gives 3 diets for all species (carnivores, herbivores, omnivores but they eat either) thus giving incentive for players to go to these locations. BUT for recommendations ive made before, these foods also spawn outside of the sanctuaries and instead in migration zones, just not in as large of numbers (Plus I wanted normal food to not only to spawn inside migration zones) which means players can choose if they want to go to a sanctuary or migration zone, or if they would rather stay safe in areas with less players. For ideas: Carnivores would get bug nests that they dig through for food, semis get... Salamanders? dont know, seems tasty. And fliers / climbers get glow worms because that seems like a good idea + cave. 3 (Basically just 1, but different) - I feel the sanctuaries need actual ways of stopping larger dinos from leaving or entering. For land dinos I feel these sanctuaries should be grottos of sorts with trees that stop just below an adult ceratos crouching height. Thus stopping most species from entering, those who have stayed to long from exiting and then the bees will take care of the adult species that can make it inside the sanctuaries (I agree with the scaling of damage compared to weight so for this we will take it as if that is in effect. Along with this for any other creatures I mention as dino deterrent) Semi aquatics get lush mangroves with roots that stop larger crocs from entering, but big enough for an adult beipi to get through, along with some logs for the smalls to dive through to escape eachother. Possibly we could get some aggressive fish that swarm adult beipis and crocs that are too large to leave / get in somehow. The fliers, or climbers if they make it up there, get expansive and open cave systems, these areas are unable to be reached by creatures that can only walk or swim and thus allow safe places for players to grow and learn how to fly. For the dino deterrent I feel...bats? This one is a hard one but possibly just very very angry bats once your too large for their liking. These are my main ideas, and of course these can always be changed and tweaked. If we are looking for true sanctuary vibes and not just a hiding spot then adding water to all these locations would work, just very very shallow water, I dont trust some of the juvies ive seen to not manage to drown in a puddle.

If the devs wanted to make sanctuaries safe from adults, they could've made a slowing debuff inside the sancturies that scales with how big the dinosaur is. Of course this means stuff like troodon wouldn't be affected as much as ceratos or carnos, but it should slow adults down enough to make ambushing juvies inside sancturaries nearly impossimble. On the other hand, the devs could take a less realistic approach and base the slowing debuff based puerly on growth. This would make ambush from any adult impossible, while being less punishing on juvies than the current bees. Furthermore, the slowing debuff would make adult herbis too slow to get their minimum requirements in terms of food and water, thus preventing sanctuaries from being a herbivore paradise. But I do agree that the sancturies are fundamentally flawed and shouldn't exist in the first place.

it's a simple fix. Do what PoT does where sanctuaries are just a part of the map design and not a system. No special diet plants or bees, just areas with dense foliage or tight spaces like small caves where juvies can hide. The devs ended up just making a mountain out of a molehill
@thetuoppi2
@thetuoppi2 7 месяцев назад
They should add that when you are attacked by bees, your dino can't attack as its head is stuck in a shaking animation, trying to avoid bee stings while taking percentage-based damage. Also, sanctuaries should be optional. They should be something that gives you a nice growth buff from the get-go but are sometimes risky and sometimes quite safe, depending on the player population and server you are on. You should always have the option to play normally if you wish. Carnivores should also have a special AI that allows them to hunt in the sanctuaries if no other dinos are available to hunt. Like some mole or lizard you can dig up, which will give you all the diets, or just let them eat mushrooms too. As sanctuaries are small, I think 5 different ones would be a good number. This way, sanctuaries wouldn't feel like a battle royale at the Chuck E. Cheese's

I really don't like the idea of the mushrooms, because those literally force you to go to sanctuaries as a juvi herbi so you can fill up tripple diet to grow faster. Everything else would just prolong your growth time (having to look for all 3 nutrients in the migration zones, then getting bad luck and one is missing and so on).. Just not efficient. Tbh the mushrooms giving all 3 diets is my biggest problem with this. Then again this might motivates people to play herbis more and not have like a 4:1 carni:herbivore ratio on every server. It's definitely a good thing carnis don't have an equivalent for this (if it stays like this). Nesting will be meaningful once "mutation -" and "perk system" is out and you have the chance to get a better dino from it. As for the bees I don't really care about those, gameplay will just be go there, fill up all diets and leave again... Staying there, being a hot spot, would just be an unnecessary risk tbh.

Once there's like 8 sanctuaries (one for every spawn point and a bit more) then overpopulation will be fixed. Bees doing more damage to larger creatures exponentially, while starting off low, basically fixes the adult problem. Simply having an abundance of diet plants and the occasional mushroom fixes the diet not being introduced to new players problem. I think weight should remain as the border point, but maybe up it so juvies can get like three quarters through to sub. Once there's 12 sanctuaries with all these fixes, overpopulation would be a thing of the past, except for maybe the sancts closest to hotspot spawns. Also, to plagiarise off another commenter, more hidey holes. Hollow logs, super tall trees for climbers and flyers, caves, dens underneath trees, underwater caves (though there's already at least one), etc etc etc. Overall, let juvies grow to adult and actually play the game. Also, a tutorial and den-making for dryos, maybe tree burrowing for pteras etc

I think Sanctuaries can be a good idea. It just needs some tuning. Make bees deadlier to adult dinos, add more sanctuaries (they’re apparently going to do that), add a food source for baby carnis (like bugs that aren’t bees, but fighting other babies can keep the game play from being stale and help new players learn a bit on how to hunt), and while I think the areas could be more dense it’s probably better to not make it too dense so babies that stay too long don’t get stuck (let the bees do their job). As for nesting, I think it will be fine. Why? Well it’s already dead but from what I can recall the devs are going to make it so nesting gives you benefits (dna and skins or something like that). So once nesting gets a usefulness it will be much more lucrative. I’d also suggest giving parents/groups a buff for having nests or nested babies. The sanctuaries can provide a safe place for spawned little ones while nested little ones shouldn’t need them. That’s my ideas. I think sanctuaries can be a good thing, but this whole problem could be solved if they didn’t spawn players into being so young to begin with.

A way to fix it imo would be to have extensive caves be accessible to sanctuaries, introduce more mushrooms with different effects for each dinosaur (including some that cause sickness and hallucinations), and to have the dense foliage be filters to the caves and secluded areas, that way the big dinos cant enter, they act as gateways to the outside, but because there would be SO many entry ways it would be impossible for older players to camp most of the juvies.

In the beginning, I always targeted the sanctuary. But if I was very far away, by the time I got there, the bees had already attacked me. There were several times that the carnivores within the area did not leave much to rest. If the game would also provide them with sanctuaries, in which they could catch small creatures, then they would help everyone a lot. Carnivores would also go to these first and only then go hunting other players. Of course, there would always be those who would choose the other way, but basically this would be the easier one and the more reasonable one for many. The migration area is usually very good, based on food. I always struggle with the diet in the beginning. As long as the first effect lasts and I find some other basic food, no problem. But if somehow I couldn't find good foods for my diet, my progress would slow down and everything would be much more difficult. Those who are already experienced and know the map like the back of their hands are sure to chuckle and shake their heads at how much of a loser they are who can't find the right plants for their diet. But there are many beginner players and those who, let's say, are not so exploratory types. And they just want to survive on this dangerous island.

Gateway is a hot mess. The only thing going for this update is the new map, and the map itself is not well optimized - I have inconsistent frames to the point it is sometimes unplayable. Note that on Spiro I had steady 45-60 fps with high/epic settings, meanwhile on Gateway on LOWEST settings I have frequent dips to 10 fps, especially during dawn/dusk. It's very frustrating. All of these new "features" like stam changes, migrations, and sanctuaries were supposed to make the world dynamic and natural, but in practice feel artificial and strenuous to play - while I see where they're coming from with these ideas, I agree 100% it has been executed terribly. They should just toss sanctuaries altogether and add hiding spots all around the map instead as other comments have been suggesting.

I think more people might've been complaining more about Ptera's stam then sanctuaries, imo. When I looked in the "Isle Discussion" chat a few times. I think sanctuaries can work. But there needs to be more things done for that to obviously happen. 1. They should act as a semi tutorial zone for the noobs. 2. Anything larger than a crouching Dryo should never be able to get in. 3. The mushrooms can still be there for an extra boost of nourishment, BUT, also including the individual diet plants. 4. Youngsters need fall dmg resistance to leave, and if they don't leave by the time they hit %30, they will start getting stung by the bees. 5. Bee dmg by weight and not a fixed dmg ratio. And like some other people have already said, the map should have more places to hide from larger creatures. The game is still a W.I.P. of course and it'll probably take another 10 years before it's been totally finished and perfected.

Not sure if someone else has mentioned this already, but this hurts deino gameplay too. I played a deino almost all of Gateway before and after it was moved to Evrima branch, and before sanctuaries were added there was enough pop passing through my usual hunting grounds I could reliably maintain at least two diet slots. After sanctuaries though, it's usually a ghost town situation where I regularly have to settle for schooling fish (not enough elite fish) which leads to a terrible diet with a massive debuff that drops my dmg from 500 to 375 -among other crippling debuffs. The map is also huge with water sources either being fully cut off from each other (to the point it's suicide to try migrating from one to the other) or it's that big af river that covers far too much area to be able to pinpoint a reliable food source location to camp. Not to mention that river has several bridges and relatively thin points that make crossing almost 100% safe, thus denying even more food for deinos. Back to sanctuaries though, the reason I think they're the cause of less food for deinos is that people aren't traveling across rivers or visiting lakes/ponds as much anymore. People spawn in, make a bee line for sanctuaries, and then any friends they have also make a bee line for the sanctuaries too to pick up their juvi friends.

Not my experience so I will share mine. I have played The Isle for about a week now, shortly after you made this video. I've played on official Evrima servers when they were full. I haven't met a single dino at the sanctuary except one other herbivore. Apparently no one goes there anymore? This leaves me all the mushrooms and they also spawn OUTSIDE the sanctuary under the plants with big leaves. This allowes you to eat the shrooms under the plants almost completely hidden and the eating makes barely any sound if at all. I also tried playing as carnivores but we're so busy trying not to die at the cannibal spawn campers all the time and if you do make it to the sanctuary, theres no one there. Maybe players have found the same strategies and are eating the shrooms unnoticed? I like playing beipiaosaurus that is omnivore and you can just ignore the sanctuary and start eating fish from the beginning. Herbivores with the Grace ability can eat grass until they unlock their proper menu. You do not get nutrients until you unlock the menu but most herbivores grow so fast you don't really need it. I've seen videos where adults try to kill juvies in the sanctuary but the vines get in the way and they die very fast to the bees and possibly lose their prey while chasing them. The vines are not to prevent adults to get into the sanctuary but slow or hinder the chase so bees can deal enough damage. Personally I'd like to have the main food menu from the start and remove the mushrooms from the list when you grow too big to be in the sanctuary. It's good to have sanctuary as an early game option. But at the moment it feels a bit too forced on some dinos.

Some of this is false. Bees are just as dangerous to a juvi as to an adult. It takes a a % of damage rather than a set amount. Also, adults or dinos too large to linger in the sanctuary cannot eat other carcasses inside it. So it’s a waste of time, energy, and health to go after juvis there.

Hasn't ended and probably never will, because baby stage is not where the fun is, its Sub-adult to Full growth. Exceptions would be if your nested in, but thats it. Also the exploration bit is a pretty bad complaint, because its not as if you die once your fully grown, you can still explore as a sub or full adult.

I think Sanctuaries could function well if they nyxed the superfood mushrooms and just have all three foods types available within the Sanctuary separately, like they are elsewhere, so juves can still achieve optimal diet and new players can investigate the different food types naturally in the protected environment while making the protective foliage denser and possibly adding more hiding spots within Sanctuaries and having the bees be more prevalent; causing scaling bleed damage as well as applying illness to anything that's not an herbivorous or omnivorous juve

Honestly, sanctuaries would've been fine if they were *just* a type of biome without the bees and a symbol for you to follow. A small, rare area that only small dinos can go to? It would've been so fun to stumble upon them by exploring, and with unique red mushrooms (and maybe some kind of giant beetle for carnivores?) that gives them all three diets? It would feel like a reward! The *community* would have considered them sanctuaries, much like the "pachy heaven" in Spiro.

Here’s how I’d do it. Instead of each sanctuary being a pretty large area with its own scent icon, they’d be little pockets of dense map geometry in some form speckled across the map with different ranges of sizes. The biggest ones would be similar looking to the current ones, but with denser plants, and thick collisionless foliage in the form of flowering plants along the edges of the area. They wouldn’t have any diet plants, maybe some grass, but a couple of puddles speckled around, to wait out predators. Changes to the bees I’d make are to make the damage proportional to health, as in draining by a percent of maximum health, although this would be low, killing a creature in around 5 minutes of being afk. However, it’d make your creature a bit slower, and make it shake its head around periodically, stopping you from attacking. The purpose of these sanctuaries is to let juvis grow for a little bit without being worried, but promoting them getting off their ass and dashing for food at the first chance. Smaller pockets would be a bit more common, and could take different forms depending on which biome you’re in, hers a couple of examples: In swamps it could be a large tangle of old mangroves with large, thick roots to provide physical protection, and with smaller mangroves along the edge of the clump at around bush heights, for visual cover. Additionally could have some mud under the bigger trees to wallow. Along the beaches or in a mountainous, rocky biome, it could be a large slab of rock, around 6-7 Stegos long, with cracks large enough for juvies to walk in, and deep enough that they can’t be bitten from above. These smaller ‘sanctuaries’ wouldn’t have bees, and would only serve to give juvis temporary shelter to lose anything chasing them.

To fix the issue of adult carnis like ceras and carnos being able to enter the sanctuary with little to even no difficulty, I think they should literally just make the bees deal more damage, and make it just a LITTLE denser, they would also make juvies not stay there for too long once they get old enough. As for food, perhaps carnis can eat honey from the beehives

honestly, it would be fixed if they gave the juvie the migration spot back on the hud so you can just ignore the sanctuary, thats what i do because i know most migrations spot, at least for tenonto etc

I remember this same thing happened with the nesting grounds, they were cool in concept but ended up being deaths traps (Especially for herbivores) to the point almost nobody uses them...

Remember when gateway was meant to be the thing to "save the isle"? Oh how naive we were, honestly this update has really exceeded my expectations. I just wish it exceeded them in a good way. It does prove something though at least to me, the devs or the ones who decide balancing really don't play there own game and they enjoy actively annoying there community. IDK how they messed up so bad making Carno OP, Pachy now being useless, raptor now taking virtually 0 skill and is now so much less fun to play, ptera is just afk simulator waiting for stam to regen which btw PLS DEVS REVERT STAMINA BACK TO THE OLD SYSTEM. It is funny tho just in the worst way possible lol. Sanctuary's is just the icing on the cake for me, on a cake made of dogshit. I'll miss you U6.5 you weren't perfect but you were at least fun and better than whatever this update is.

Giving carnivore babies “insect nodes” or mice burrows as a potent food source in sanctuaries was a no-brainer. You just have to think about it for 1 minute and the answer is there.

If they have a lot of sanctuaries, increase the density and make the wording effect for adult dinos, much more difficult for them to overcome. I could see it working. The other thing they need to do is add a lot more AI for carni

How about a walled off area, via a few SMALL caves to a hollowed out volcano (so u can still have sky) and while in the sanctuary you cannot exceed a certain growth%. To continue developing youd have to leave. That would limit the adult KOSers, prevent juvies from growing beyond a certain point and gorging on victims. And make the place a huge section (hence inside a hollowed out volcano) Thats my initial idea. Its likely not fool proof but i think it cuts back on a lot of the worst issues Being held at max % while in the sanctuary may seem unrealistic. But whod wanna stay that smol For long? It can be assumed you’re slowing time for yourself by staying or something. Because you’re meant to leave at that point. The issue is preventing adults from going Purge on the juvies in there, while also giving them no reason to stay beyond a certain point Either THAT, Orrr have the food within bi longer offer nutrition after a certain % like a maturing diet rather than pausing their growth outright, you can slow it down via diet to where they would have poor diet and growing so slowly that theyd have no reason to stay

sanctuaries are great. The issues that you mentioned - can (and already have been) fixed. For instance bee damage - you just up it, or add some negative effect, or make it a blurry vision, or make it gradually increase in damage and add log lasting effects, etc. This is tweakable in so many ways. I'm a new players and sanctuaries are a blessing. When I first hatched as a stega, I was shocked. How the hell I'm supposed to survive, I'm small and slow. IRL baby dino is spported and protected by big and strong parents. In a game you are alone. So the sanctuary in essence replaces the parrents by providing safe space to grow.

They do look beautiful, gateway is astonishing to look at. - The ultra-fix the game needs where you can also avoid sanctuaries and make it more fun to play - When starting a new dinosaur, your growth progress is NOT lost when you die, until you reach adult size, dying as an adult resets the growth on that species. So you start from scratch. That way you can keep it out in the open, no sanctuaries need to be made. ( thereby reducing development time. ) ALSO, if they filled the map just a bit more with AI entities, carnivore players could rely more on AI. Dinosaur AI, we already see, Teno, Juvi omni's and cera's, If each area had some animals spawn in, including inside forests, the stress would be reduced on juvi players. Thereby again, negating the need to develop and add sanctuaries. The Isle has implemented many ideas and removed them later on, It is a fad that has to stop. - A dinosaur survival game is very basic. Legacy version already had the basics for it, and if it werent for the bugs, and if it had enough AI, or players on the server, it would have worked. Doesn't take to much, from there on out, to add grab mechanics, organs, diets, sents, poisons, weather. Yet, somehow, it took them 8 years to get there. Not judgemental, it is a game born out of experimentation is what it feels like, at some point they wanted some dinosaurs to cloak. But they really should just work on the dinosaurs, the AI, the ecosystem, the weather. Not add sanctuaries, it is a feature that could just be natural, one biome has more plants and more foliage. Not specifically designed around a theme. Keeping in mind that they basically want to build an entirely new game out of the isle, the Marine biome, with playable dinosaurs and ecosystems in the ocean... Which just as much will need space, AI fish and big animals. deep spots and places for juvi's to hide. It is like building a new version of the isle, though they are good at it and i hope they succeed.

The devs have said they have over 20+ sanctuaries ready to be added to the map, the only reason there is so few on the map atm is that they are being tested, we dont have the final version of sanctuaries.....not even remotely close, they will be tweaked to be properly balanced as they get data on whats happening with them in the stress test atm, i get my nutrients and leave as there is 0 point in staying once i have my diets. Also they should remove the sanctuary icon for carnivores in my opinion as you will just starve and die going there, your better off finding a teno Ai, Ai wildlife, or other fresh spawn player to stay alive on. Lets be honest, only way your dying to the bees as a juvi is if you purposely stay in there to long, if you dont immediatly leave once you have your diets filled then that's your issue. Again might just of been my luck or experience so far, but ive never seen an adult carnivore near sanctuaries....besides troodons, and that was a few times in the 150 hours ive played with sanctuaries, and from my experience you will starve and die if you try to rely on the juvi dinos coming to sanctuaries, they dont give anywhere near enough food to sustain an adult carnivore let alone a pack. So again in my opinion they should remove the sanctuary icon from every carnivores huds besides troodons, i exclude troodons because they are small and it makes for a fun dynamic in sanctuaries for them to be able to go in and hunt the juvies Some of your takes confuse me quite a bit, at the start the sanctuaries were crowded cause everyone wanted to see them so it feels like your opinion is coming from the initial hype and overcrowded scenarios that only came with their initial release, but now (from my experience) you barely ever find anyone there as anyone who plays the game on the regular knows not to stay long and besides once you get that perfect diet growth buff you grow out of the sanctuary very quick, but like i said once you get your diets filled you should already be leaving immediatly as your migration zone will soon show up and its time to literally grow up and out of relative safety. Also sanctuaries are only meant for you to visit once and then leave, i have 0 clue how this somehow keeps people from exploring the map....you go there, you get diets, and you leave to explore and then find your migration zone once it comes up, your not forced to stay, hell your not even forced to go to the zone, its optional, you can 100% survive without it, but the diet boost is nice hence why its a decent incentive for a herbie juvie to visit should a zone be close. How on earth would people be confused about their diets once they leave the sanctuaries to their migration zones, literally every single diet option is explained and your told what every plant is and what diet it gives and your even told where you can find them, you can find your diets outside migration zones in the areas your diet details your plants can be found, but its uncommon to do so. The sanctuaries dont keep people from learning....thats a crazy claim, It feels like you think anyone who is semi new to the game will be to dumb to figure anything out.....this system is sooooooo easy to learn, its simply a zone that can give a boost to herbivore juvies should they make the journey there that has bees that attack once your a certain size....I will say that tutorial tips are greatly needed in game for newer players to ease the learning curve, like what we had in legacy and then once you knew everything you had the option to turn the tips off I love your videos man, but this one is just not it.........keep up the good work tho, i would hope your opinion changes on this topic once we get the finished version of sanctuaries as we are only playing with the test version atm.

So far I find them completely optional. I don't know the spawns well enough to know the close ones, so most of the time they're way too far anyway. Food scarcity on the trip and the tendency to fly off cliffs while running through brush as a fresh spawn means my time is better spent trying to find something closer to eat or graze.

Though sanctuaries are flawed, I think one of the benefits it does have is that it would (in theory) allow very small dinosaurs like troodon or pteranodon to fill in a sort of 'mini apex' niche within the sanctuary, as typically the other larger carnivores wouldn't be able to access it, giving them zero competition within that zone.

i have an idea how a concept like sactuaries could work and first change would be to make bees not do damage but a specific poison instead that is aplyed in percentage this would be a threat to any dinosaur equaly baby or not, and the second change would be to make the red mushrooms not give any nutrients or diets just giving a temporary growth boost and making them edible to all dinos becaus even taking into acount realism, most carnivores still sometime eat specific plants and mushroom and sanctuaries are not a very realistic concept to begin with. but now with these changes made sanctuaries are not ment to be a place for juvis to stay at but for youg dinos to pass through, get a growth boost, find with other dinos to maybe group with and adults will have less incentive to go there because mushrooms dont provide any food forcing herbies to move on to find food and carnie will therefore also stay there less. there still is the issue with adult carnies comming to sanctuaries to get easy food but the bees and herbies only passing through and not staying will hopefully help also why can adults smell sanctuaries making them be smellable from further away while your small would just be the obvious solution.

If Sanctuaries as a safe zone are failing, make it a gameplay acceleration point instead. These are my proposed ideas. 1. Have 4 quadrants of the map be Sanctuary zones have carnivore and Herbivore specific ones 'grow' randomized in those spawns. And have a internal decay rate where the foliage falls apart overtime. More players inside the sanctuary speed up the decay rate where the foliage breaks apart forcing player movement. 2. Make it so Adults Can trample the 'grown' foliage. When trampling Adults hit the bees nests causing % Dmg so the adults have to carefully look where they're stomping. 3. Make Herbivore Sanctuary a place where all kinds of Herbivore food spawn specifically and have Carnivore specific ones spawn a lot of bunnies, Fish, Boars, stuff carnivores only want.

I think a good fix would be to make sanctuaries work like migration zones. Certain ones are active and others aren't at certain periods forcing you to have to travel if the sanctuary fades.

I'm new to the Isle but I've clocked in over 60 hours over the last week. Super enjoying the game. Sanctuaries suck though, and to be honest I started just ignoring them entirely and going straight to where I know my next diet will be... it seems really pointless to even bother with a sanctuary if you even have a clue of what you're doing. I agree with others saying they should include little branches to hide under and mushrooms in the rest of the map for babies to be able to explore more freely.
