Thank you for the wonderful vid. Dr Patrick and Natalie, we need to appreciate that the challenge is in the system- it needs revamping. Average age of 15.5 among Ugandan youth can be great assets for Industry, farming, infrastructure, medicine etc but the question is "what do we have to offer?". Check the quality of education degree outcomes! I agree with Natalie that we need Skills training and the professionals need to Specialise and super Specialise. I don't like comparison but let's borrow a leaf from Chinese youth!

Yes a lot of technical and soft skills and paradigm shift of the young populations poor attitude to work. The seem to want to arrive before starting to move, they seem to be under a lot of social pressure and their expectations are way too high, thus not focussed. They want a high pay yet not yet experienced to earn what they expect.

China transformed after embracinhg capitalism and industralisation ..Unfortunately Uganda is landlocked meaning we will always have to depend on another country for their port and also we cant really attract many FDIs..compared to our non land locked neighbours kenya and TZ meaning we have to think out of the box

@@jf4099 True, and these factors are personal and I believe the mass education could help but I've not witnessed any program. Apostle Moses Mukisa of Worship Harvest published a great book, SFFG, and I believe this could be a start for any youth who would want to make a difference

Thanks a lot Mr Bitature for this discussion….Honestly I wonder why our leaders are not doing something about our education system. You can imagine it takes 19 - 20 years of education from nursery to University, only to graduate with ZERO SKILLS. Honestly why?? My advise to all the youth I talk to is always to dig inside themselves and identify there strength then use RU-vid and other online platforms to develop skills that have real demand in the market place. I believe with self drive, it’s possible to skill up in less than a year and start earning. Otherwise, thanks alot for the show, it’s much appreciated

LETS TALK ABOUT TIME.. THANKS

Definitely, a good conversation, thank you. The skilling can be done in schools, universities, and at jobs. I think with this learning vs education, we can proactively learn and teach; learning and development is crucial for all institutions. Maybe our CSR or civic duty for many of us that are in a place of privilege should be going and teaching these people these things. Teach the micro-businesses to look at the bigger picture.

I strongly believe, we need financial literacy. Opportunities are available, yes people have humbled and can do certain jobs regardless of what they think they're worth. But Mr Bitature, you've said it all. Discipline. You see, yes you got the job then what, vision, knowledge, discipline, name it

I thank the duo for the time and insight into one of our biggest challenge as a people of Uganda and Africa , Dr Natalie you talked about the education system and its products, If you visit banks , yes lots of staff lack soft skills in communication etc … Can we have a program where Mr Patrick and Dr Natalie come up with policies and reforms that the education system can adopt for employable products in both the formal and informal sector. My thanks

I also partially agree with papa Dr.patrick with the idea of needing those raw , manageable ,easy to program and adjust people, but now i fully agree with Natalie that we are comin in a time where everyone , i mean all of us with no consideration of your background should know the smart way of working or work related to white cola at least to some extent, so that we can easily mold with the current revolutions in our work places

Passion, focus, commitment, discipline, self respect and honest, not keeping up appearances, lifelong learning, be willing to accept constructive criticism and support, a team player/ leader are all models of a successful candidate of this thing called life. Gratitude is key for starters and leaving no room to complaining. These young kids could self teach these skills from anywhere, anytime if disciplined and passionate instead of wasting data on mindless activities. All apps even those that seem mindless such as TikTok have a wealth of useful information and skills. We need to stop placing the whole burden on the govt. Some of it, yes but we ought to take responsibility for us to achieve success as a developing country. Very well said guys!! 👏

Thanks for ur point....but am adding on that the government shud atleast revamp the education system becos the syllabus we are following is of 1920z which was okay by then becos of the limited resources and low population Can u imagine a student spending almost 16 years in skul and cant start up even a single business In Uganda a senior six certificate graduate is far less than an un educated person .... Becos what they teach in skuls is different from what is happening in the world TODAY Thanks

I was like you 3 years ago. All i can advise you to do is to be proactive and intentional in searching for opportunities that will act as spring boards to gaining the practical skills you need. i.e walk to reputable organisations and ask to be a trainee for say 6 months regardless of how much you are paid.(i say reputable because it usually works in your favor and builds your c.v for future opportunities). You will learn a lot along the way. Also you can take on training programs/ fellowships. (keep your eyes on job sites like O4Ug). These will build your soft and leadership skills and give you an insight of what your true potential is. Plus the plus side is that most are paid(you're given a reasonable stipend.) All in all, keep believing, pushing, praying and trying. Don't give up.The sky is the limit.

This is what happens with alot of time to spare. Very unnatural/unafrican/uncultural series this. Sage advice ceases to be sage when a father talks his way down to the same level as his child. You might get to find out that your child is wiser than you are.
