It's noted that this was one of the only songs in Motown that recording the song Michael started doing his famous vocal hicop but of course Motown didn't want the Jackson 5 showing any control.
His voice was clearly changing at that point. He's "Lil' Mike" when he hits the high notes...but "Grown Mike" when he hits the lower/softer notes. My parents also bought me my first Jackson 5 album in 1973 ot 1974 "Get It Together."
It's amazing how his voice didn't loose it's magic when it started changing. Most magically beautiful voice forever. Love the style too :) And love u the most Mike!

This song was perfect for MJ b/c his voice was in transition. You could here there's more bass when he sings the verses but he coud hit the high notes during the chorus and adlibs. I love it!!
goodness gracious, Michael had a nice but even at fifteen. What a kind and gentle amazing human being that will be tremendously missed throughout the entire world. How many of us can say that about ourselves. The power that Michael had was extraordinary to say the least. All the things he had to endure, none of us will never know. But Michael Jackson will never be forgotten. He left us a legacy that others will try to imitate, but can never duplicate. Love, Forever and Always.
I can't get any sound from it, even though i've checked my speakers. I really wanted to see him sing it. Anyway, I've got every Jackson 5 album now, and working on the "Jacksons", I listened to every song since I missed all Michael's music while growing up, and only remember the "hits" they had. I came to this song, and it blew me away, how perfect Michael was in voice right on this song. It was a Wow moment for me. What can I say? It's beautiful, amazing, etc.

Full,effect of his chemical castration here. Horrible what that father did to him, but the only modern day example of that castrata vocal ability. Beautiful voice but he never had a chance to decide for himself if it would be worth a lifetime of infertility. Child abuse like we have not seen in a hundred years. What a phenomena he was. So much ability and angst and talent and drive all mixed up with a screwed up body chemistry. I hope he knows how much we appreciated his sacrifice and how sorry we are for his pain and struggle. What a life. So misunderstood.
