It's aerodynamically better to put on top of the wing though it's usually less accessible. The racks act as wing fences, so it's probably one of the reason. At aoa the lower side has denser air, the launched missile has to experience the transition, it's way manageable on the upper side. Also the lower side of the airfoil is generally laminar regardless of the aoa so it contributes to the slightest amount of drag refinement.
sidenote: the point of wing fence is the generated vortices at high yaw angle, because the fence is not all the way down to the trailing edge it won't help at aoa in a simple fashion.
@InTheAttic1945 now? 0.8-1.7 if you're on a Mirage, 0.7-1.6 if you're on the Jaguar. It also depends on how aware your opponent is and for some reason MiG-23s and J-7s are much more likely to flare them at close range so under 1.5 for those.

Reasons for the missiles on top of the wings: it frees up underwing stations for air to ground weapons , plus the missile seeker has a better field of view since it’s not blocked by the fuselage to one side or the other.
So I’m not an engineer but the way it was explained to me was that having hard points above or below wings doesn’t make any real difference in flight performance. Obviously though bombs don’t drop up too well so they’re typically below the wing, but yeah, if you weren’t going to overload the weight of the aircraft theoretically you could double the missile hard points of most aircraft lol
Why are they on top of the wings? Because the plane is suppose to be use as a CAS and you support to be flying low, so when you launch them they won't be hitting the ground as much as ones hanging below.
I feel like I’m the only one who actually likes it, obviously I’d prefer more missiles and a higher top speed, but flying it like an FRS.1 (staying low on the outside of the map, coming in at rat angles to get to people who don’t know you’re there) and I got a 3 kill my first game in it (would’ve been 4 but someone else’s missile was faster). It’s not a goated fighter by any means, but it’s more usable than people are giving it credit for.
I really like this plane. Matchmaker kinda hurts it and it ain't no mig23ml but you can still have fun with it and grind your tech-tree. Magik 2's are magik and the gun is really nice to aim.
This... with 2 magics 2s Missiles that have almost as good as flare resistance as the R73 Good ish range Good accel and speed All aspect and 35gs Can see the F4C, which doesn't get flares Perfect balance gaijin lol
I mean... You already had the Su-25ML with R-73s at 11.0, and there's flareless planes higher than the 4-C. But yes. Air is compressed AF, but in gaijins defense, even with decompression, bad/obsolete airframes with good missiles look pretty hard to balance.
@LordGangrel , yea I forgot about that su25 But yea air needs some heavy decompression. People have been praising gaijin for raising brs with new top tier jets but that's supposed to be a given not something that should be asked for
You can tell they just yoinked the regular jaguar model and just painted it differently because of the afterburner still being shite. If it was even a slightly new model they would’ve given it new burners I reckon Such a low effort, overtired and sad event vehicle on the SECOND CYCLE
