SO many of their songs betray a disdain for society and the trappings of adulthood; the statements they made were often hidden under bubbling baseline and guitar groove (think Town Called Malice) yet the lyrics unveiled a deeper and more honest viewpoint. The Jam have been "gone" a very long time; yet they are immortal to their fanbase, who remain hopeful for a reunion. The "legacy" they left has stood the test; they never got old, or fat, or bald... NO shitty Jam record exists; as it was done with integrity, honesty and class. The rage and disconnect of "youth" (youth being relative...) captured perfectly. A near perfect template to follow... for those so inclined.
Weller's lyrics must have been a huge subconscious influence upon my own life. Even in middle age, I still feel disdain for "adult" culture, sticking with an advanced version of the Post-Punk/Alternative Rock subculture that I learned in my teens and twenties.
Well written. Weller could surely not have known 40 yrs hence a love & passion for not only their music but it has to be said, and I hate myself for saying it -the jam are dead long live the JAM
Stayed up late with the TV volume on 0 so my parents wouldn't hear to watch this on a school night....good times. And years later I discovered Weller was playing a lick from the Jackson's "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough".
@@colingeddes2172 hello again 😊, I love the whole album, Pretty Green is just another classic. I do love Bruce and Rick as well 🙃.. Where abouts are you, are you UK or afar? I still listen to them everyday. I can never get bored of their music.
@@colingeddes2172 I collect vinyl. Luckily still have all my original Jam albums. My daughter grew up thinking I loved Weller more than anyone in the world, 😂. Think she understands me now though. That that is in fact true 🤣,
I called my younger brother who had bought a Betamax video recorder and asked him to stay up and record this for me, thank God he did as its literally the only copy of this out there. I know its the one he recorded because his color tune was off at the time and all the red on Weller jacket is too bright, but I'm ok with it now all these 41 years later.
Often wondered did Lennon happen to watch this(in his NY apartment)? And what he would’ve thought? ....just months too, before he was shot dead. Gerard(Belfast)
Lennon was LONG dead this was broadcast in the Spring of 1981, I know because I risked severe punishment creeping towards the TV to watch it on a school night.
Paul Weller explaining how the economy works: "I've got a pocket full of pretty green I'm going to give it to the man behind the counter He's going to give me food and water I'm gonna eat that and look for more"
@@corinnehansen4316 The sun newspaper is a pariah here in Liverpool due to blatant lies in regards to the The Hillsborough tragedy, funnily enough the name is actually from Martin Eden by Jack London I just thought his wording was striking
@@theshameofthesun I was born in Liverpool and although I dont live there I am fully aware of the feelings of this scum! I wont allow it in my house. You are supported in your cause, even if I am miles away now. RIP 97.
