The Jazz Offense vs The Rockets Switching Defense In Game 1

The Jazz lost to the Rockets partly because James Harden and Chris Paul had their way vs. the Jazz defense, but also, because the Rockets defense limited the Jazz greatly. Quin Snyder implemented slips, handoffs and more to attack the defense but it wasn't enough. I recommend some things including exploiting Harden more with Donovan Mitchell.

GREAT analysis. Please never stop making these for us hoop junkies. I'm still a player, but this helps me see the game through a new lens. I love it.

Fun fact, James Harden ranked top 5 in post defense this year. Him switching to guard PF or Centers has been advantageous to the Rockets as he likely collects the rebound, faster than the PF or Center who just shot while Capela runs the court. Even if the Rockets do not score in transition, there is a mismatch somewhere on the court.

Awesome to see the switching plates in the nba. We played switch defense in all my high school years and it helps to have the right personnel or else it won’t work (my rival school did it too but didn’t have the athleticism to switch like us)

Gobert on Horns Flare standing in that CORNER 😢😢😢😢😂. Major offensive liability because Gobert is not a threat for 3-pointers.

Matt Piers bullshit Daryl morey and Sam hinkie ushered in the era of the 3 point shot.. not the warriors and curry
@mattpiers4589
@mattpiers4589 6 лет назад
Johnny U. You're kidding right? If you said D'antoni did that, then you'd have a point because of the spread offense he catalyzed in Phoenix. Before their title runs the Warriors were known for being the team the shot threes. The Rockets then participated in shooting threes like the year the Warriors won their first title since they were both in the top 4 teams for 3 pointers.

First things first- your analysis is always on point, you’re definitely one of my regular channels I watch. Just wanted to point out one thing from this vid- Regarding Favors rebounding: I understand how it seems absurd how he doesn’t crash the glass and instead backpedals back on D but I see why. Looking at who both teams have on the floor, Houston still has the speed advantage and can exploit that in transition. It’s not quite a small ball lineup as much as it is a shmedium lineup. Abandoning the offensive glass in favor (pardon the pun) of stopping transition isn’t terribly incredulous, it’s something I’ve seen out of Doc/Thibs book since at least 08. To be fair, this Jazz roster isn’t constructed the same as those Doc teams (and lacks the same up-and-down talent if I’m being honest.) Idk just some thoughts. I’d love to know what you think! Keep up the great work and thoughtful analysis!
@coachdaniel8163
@coachdaniel8163 6 лет назад
Thanks Michael. You make a good point and just to be clear, I wasn't saying Favors not crashing the glass is ridiculous. I was just pointing out the Jazz's strategy and if they continue to struggle on offense, having him crass is something they should consider changing.

Tugsuu Gsg Harden ranks on synergy as one of the best post defenders in the league. You must not watch the Rockets much. Harden has been great on post defenders and is a huge reason why we can switch so much. He's extremely strong with a 6 foot 11 wingspan and it just killed KAT last round. His defensive versatility (along with Capela, Ariza, Mbah, etc.) is key for us.

@DJ.Generation
@DJ.Generation 6 лет назад
I don't like the Rockets Switch defense because ALOT of times the defense leaves the corner 3s open. Which doesn't really have to happen because the wing defender should trust Capela to do his thing. If I was the other team I would just focus on kick and drives to the wing corners and put my best 3 point shooters there.

coach do you think the jazz will benefit more if they play the same way the cavs did against the warriors in 2016, they put curry in almost all their pnr. to me, they can do this with mitchell and ingles as theyre savy and can draw fouls. if you get harden in foul trouble regardless of what CP3 can do it basically will ruin their rotations as theyre forced to play CP more minutes and you get a frustated superstar

Harden isn't an overreactor. He will pick and choose the times to really get down. And frankly if its just the Mitchell scoring show that won't get it done

Harden does not really foul. 65 games this year, Harden has less than 4 fouls throughout the game. 45 games this year, he had 2 fouls or less.

Rockets defense is good but they lacks consistency and effort. They need to apply the same pressure on their opponents throughout the entire game and not just the first half.
