Arggh me mateys. Shiver me timbers this video has nothing to do with pirates! Over the last few years I've noticed a big shift in which streamers are able to go viral. In the past, watching someone game was a new invention, so the bar was very low. you could get famous just for being around and naming yourself after something like a soda popping. Nowadays you'd be lucky to get popular without putting everything you have into being as entertaining, and embarrassing as possible. The people want jesters.

I wonder if there’s a world where Ishowspeed changes his vibe now that he has his following, like how pewdiepie used to be really outrageous but then mellowed out and now just vlogs his life in Japan because he doesn’t need to rely on viral moments

The thing about streamers (or rather anyone with a following) is one key thing: be entertaining. Say what you want about these guys, but they deliver that in a hand basket, and I respect them for it.

I feel like the recent incident of case purposefully ending streaming by “jumping and destroying” his set up is a an extreme example of wanting to clip farm and him wanting to end stream early. I feel like he’s getting burnt out

It's clearer than ever that trends are not simply escalations. This trend is likely a result of the very recent adoption of almost all humans above the age of 7 being hyperconnected to the internet. There are pockets of consistent viewership from very young generations absorbing this content, and it's easier content to make, just more toxic. I think this trend is here to stay, but the novelty of it is why we talk about it. Soon it will be commercialized and expected, and that will give rise to a new novel trend.
