I used to be super afraid of jinns. It was my biggest fear. It used to keep me up at night. I'm almost 19, and I left Islam when I was 17. I questioned it for almost two years and had little faith before I finally considered myself an atheist. My point is, that fear never went away. It lessened to a huge extent but it never fully disappear. Despite being an atheist, I still have my moments late at night when my mind and fears take the best of me. I'm able to rationalize my way out of it most of the time but I hate that it even happens. I'm scared of the dark as a result of my old fear. It's quite damaging teaching children that kind of bullshit. Many kids, and adults, still have that fear. I also want to say thank you for being so outspoken. I can't be, because of where I live, and I appreciate the fact that people like you speak on behalf of us who are still silenced. You voice many of my opinions. Congratulations on reaching 10,000 subscribers. You deserve many more.

A few years ago I had to manage a very large development team, consisting of Indian and Pakistanis. Within the team was a Pakistani man who kept messing up, and I had numerous private discussions with him. During one of these discussions he asked me if I knew what the Jinn were, and despite me answering yes, he went on to describe all the horrors of their power. Then he asked me if I knew that he had the power to control them and could make them do anything he commanded, for example, cause them to attack me and my family. I found it unsettling but didn't show him that. Instead I burst out laughing and told him that even if such things existed, being Christian ensured that the Jinn were not nearly strong enough for my God. He was furious and literally screamed at me that I would see and be sorry, and rushed out of my office in a great rage! Completely unhinged! His family must go through hell with him. I pity his wife and children.

Any Muslim ever will tell you they've encountered _Jinns_ . It makes for a really good storytelling time. As an ex-muslim, I have a whole family of Muslims - including cousins. I can remember countless times from my life where my cousins have told me about Jinn stories. It genuinely is an interesting narrative, but it is no more interesting than the idea of ghosts and ghouls. I know people who have said they can or have spoken to Jinns and that they've seen them. I've heard stories of an old woman walking around the room; or hearing a little girl crying in the corner at night. These stories used to genuinely scare me. Not in the moment though - of course not - I suppose thats human nature really. We only truly fear that stories could become reality when we're alone in the darkness and the leash on our imaginations is cut, that is when these stories feel vividly real. It's like watching a horror movie really. It's an interesting story and can make us question our reality sometimes, but nonetheless, it is fiction. You should do a video on black magic too btw. My family has allegedly been 'cursed' by some sort of black magic which i outright refuse to believe. This is another mainstream belief among Muslims too.

I used to believe in all of those jinn stories. Not anymore! My family still believes though... I am liberated ex-muslim atheist now...

I was terrified of jinn when I was a child, most muslim kids do. It was horrible, that's probably one of the many reasons why I left this crazy cult.

I am a born Christian but i was very open to learn about different religions and then came in contact with Sufism friends I use to visit them suddenly I felt something started argue within me about religion, family, Christ deity and pushing me to adopt cult ideas, I started staying alone and things got worse like the situation you discussed finally I was at the point that I am useless, finally I met with one pastor and discuss my issue he explained me about spiritual war was going on within me so I decided to repent and started reading Bible and doing prayer but it was really difficult at beginning but I kept on and things started getting better day by day, still working on it but much better but this wasted my 10 years, my personality and off course my career, Christ is The good Shepherd

I'm British and actually mentioned to the doctor that I was experiencing people visiting me in the night. I told him that they sat next to my bed and said nasty things to me and I couldn't speak to tell them to go away. I told him that when I confronted them the next day and asked them to stop harassing me they laughed and said they weren't there. The doctor said "Was this just after going to sleep or early in the morning?" I said "Both, but I know people see crazy shit when they're drifting to sleep or waking up" "Yes it's hypnogogic, hypnopompic and sleep paralysis behaviour" he replied. I replied "but now it's happening during the night." He said "Since the baby was born?" "He woke me up, didn't he?" Doctor: "What do you think?" During one visit to my neighborhood mosque my Iman noticed I had a jinn in me wow was I scared but luckily my Iman took it out of me , what he had me do was drop my pants and underwear and bend over the room was totally dark and my Iman recited some quranic verses and then I could feel the jinn going in and out of my rectum this went on for about 5 minutes all while Iman abram was yelling Allah oh Allah then all of a sudden I felt a hot fluid running deeply into my rectum and the jinn was gone ,my Iman wants me to come by in a few days to make sure it doesn't come back, I am so lucky he caught it before it fully overtook my body and mind

I do not believe in Islam but the Torah and Bible do make reference to fallen angles who mated with human females. These might be the jinns that Ol' Moe makes reference to. After all, he did take ideas from the Torah, Babylonian Talmud and the Bible.

I used to have sleep paralysis too. I would feel a vibration when crazy stuff similar to what you described happened. I learned that when I felt the vibration, whatever was happening was a dream and I’ll wake up soon. The sleep paralysis got less frequent and severe until it stopped being shocking and stopped all together.

The proof that jinn exist is stated very clearly in Al Araf (7:27) "He (Shaytaan) and his tribe (the jinn) watch you from a position where ye cannot see them" How do you explain this?? How could a simple illiterate man who lived fourteen hundred years ago know that human beings would not be able to actually see jinn? If I was to hazard a guess, the correlation with Jinns and dirt and filth is possibly an early understanding regarding filthy conditions and sickness. The correlation was made but the correct assumptions were not. The effects of delirium from sickness or neurological effects from parasites no doubt appeared to uneducated man that these people had become possessed or influenced by Jinn. Given how wide spread death and disease would be before modern medicine, the symptoms of having no treatment for illness and the bizarre behavior people displayed from it, no doubt convinced people the supernatural was involved in some way. If you survived a fever and explained being delirious, it probably fed further into notions of Jinn as people would explain not feeling like they were themselves. Of course, I'm speculating. There's probably better, more reliable information out there.

This reminded me of something described to me by a former friend of mine from back in highschool that was Muslim. Not sure if this would be considered a Jinn, but it definitely seems to be in the same category at least. She told me her mother claimed to be regularly spoken to by some "other worldly being" through telepathy. He would answer any question she had even if it regarded future events. Through him, she apparently precisely predicted birth dates and genders of babies the second she or another woman found out they were pregnant. (And also informed her of pregnancies occurring before any test confirmed them) She also claimed to hold the burden of knowing when and how everyone she knew would die. Basically, he'd tell her anything she wanted know other than a few thing select things that could damage the world if she told others. My friend 100% believed her mother too since she apparently was proved to be correct in every claim that she made. Is this a common Muslim belief or just complete delusion? lol If it makes a difference they are Somali so maybe it's just a weird cultural belief as well.

Ancient understanding of demons was that they were spirits of filth, which is why we get diseases from filthy things and places. At least that was the rationale. The Jinn described here are a bizarre permutation of that. That said, when I first heard about Muhammad's encounters with Jinn my immediate reaction was sleep paralysis. I'm had some crazy encounters, including two alien abduction experiences and while trying to get up from a nap in the middle of the day being held down by a red haze that spoke into my mind that I "wasn't going anywhere." By the time I started developing my really vivid hallucinations I was already well aware of what sleep paralysis was, and wasn't particularly phased by them. But someone who doesn't know anything about the disorder would have been horrified. But if the Prophet was divine and carried the word of Allah, then why would he be this preoccupied with a sleep disorder?
