It was loaded but it was also like half too high brow. Edgar Allen Poe isnt exactly a huge draw to rap battle types and the cask isnt his most famous of works either. Its not his least but still. The rest I agree with though. Of course, the jokers last verse was also insanely dense with references.

I didnt get why he was referencing that story, and he loses points from me for mispronouncing "amontillado" for a rhyme by adding a random "n" in place of the double "l"

By calling out the turtle he invalidated two of his other lines about being beaten by the kids though. You're not just beaten by kids if you have a cosmic entity helping them. Being upset by underaged sex isn't really in line with a psychotic serial killer that hates norms and structures either. Writing Joker beating the shit out of his girlfriend is honestly probably worse, not to mention all the murders (a far worse crime) that both Joker and Pennywise are written to do.

They were good lines but several of those would be more towards Steven King than Pennywise as a character. Not sure they really count overall

@Battered Boggart Joker's usage of the turtle line also basically invalidates multiple of his disses elsewhere, the losing to the losers club and the kid from Stranger things. Not to mention he attacked that same point three times. Kinda beat it a little too much.

@Battered Boggart Exactly. I loved how deep they went in on this battle, everything about it was insane. But I feel most walk away thinking the wrong character won, which is a rarity.

Well technically they failed, considering their mission was to find a Northwest Passage by water that didn't exist. It's part of the reason why Lewis committed suicide only a few years after the expedition; he was obsessed with finding the passage.

@@nathancollins1715 I wouldn't say the expedition was a failure, despite the fact the reason they set out on it was to find something that didn't exist. I'd also contend his suicide (which is debated as possible homicide though I accept that it was a suicide) was in very great part caused by the other problems in his life: debt, health issues and overall poor mental health. The idea he'd off himself because he couldn't find something that never existed seems far fetched to me.

@@kinjiru731 I mean, obviously the expedition wasn't a failure in terms of its historical impact. But in terms of the parameters of their mission, they failed to find what they set out to find.

I will admit this was the better ERB we have seen in a while but there was also the cocaine line that the joker did because King did ALOT of cocaine in the 80s and when he wrote the book IT, Jack Nickolson was the guy who was the main character in the Shining and he played as the joker, and the fact that the turtle is the reference to the turtle that has been alive since the dawn of creation and the main character gets knowledge of how to beat pennywise from the turtle and also the fact that joker was supposed to be a simple killed off character after shown once in the comics but the popularity made him a regular, he also referenced mark hamm who was the voice of joker and there was also the myth that the original batman concept came from bill finger who worked for bob kane before bill finger died. This was a really good ERB but I think the joker won because he hit the most of Pennywise's character within the books and movies.

I agree with OP except for the complex line, my fav line ever is the method man line from eastern vs western philosophers

@@shinyumbreon7697 Problem though is the turtle line basically invalidates two of Jokers other lines, as Joker hit Pennywise three times with "who he got beat by" And Pennywise had a really nice rebuttal to all three by simply telling Joker he got beat by the Scooby gang. Joker actually rarely hit Pennywise but instead hit Stephen King and other aspects of the book/movie that had nothing to do with Pennywise. Both were great with double meanings, references, how their characters were played and bars. But if we're going straight up disses, Pennywise took it.

The 6ix 9ine line is overblown, since it comes off the idea that the casting of the Joker got worse after Jack. Heath. Was good, so was Phoenix. In fact, most castings of the Joker are good, so pointing out the ONE terrible version versus tons of other good ones, doesn’t seem that hard hitting. Most of the ‘hard hitting’ Pennywise lines in fact, only work off shock value. Bringing up Heath Ledger because he’s dead is shocking, but it doesn’t take away from his portrayal of the Joker. I think the fact that so many people reacting to this battle seem to miss half the lines the Joker uses doesn’t help either, but shows how in depth they went for his lines. On both attack or defense, he’s drawing from every medium both characters are from. He uses comics/books, TV, Movies, real life, and these days a lot of people just seem to get movie references. I’m not saying Pennywise only makes movie references either, he goes for more, but he also does a lot of just general references or uses big movie ones. Both Leto and Ledger, movies, Batman’s tights, very generalized. The Joker attacks King (cocaine and gangbang), he has the scars, guards line snuck in (actor), Tim Curry (actor), turtle/gangbang (book), kid from stranger things (movie), and for himself he mentions Phoenix (actor), Dhining man (Jack/Actor), ask robin if I drop bars (comics), dance with the devil (movie), etc. I appreciate the ability to cover so many fronts, to build himself up from all his sources and attack Pennywise on all of his. It’s honestly a very close rap battle, but I’d give the Joker the edge just for that.

Konfusion With A K I don’t know, the Joker barely attacked Pennywise directly many of his bars where either hyping himself up or attacking King while most of pennywises where attacking joker directly. That’s part of what sold it for me. I don’t think I missed any of Jokers bars, I was just listing what I found the hardest hitting.

I think a lot of people get the references (not everyone though, I’m sure), it’s just that they are rather weak compared to so many other lines. Which shows just how good the rest of this ERB is, because the lines you referenced are still really good.

I take smile and leave scars guads(skargards) in arkham will admit that the joker just killed it, and gangbang line, with cocaine one on start, for me joker destroyed it, pennywise had decent lines expect for the ledger one and jerad leto tekashi 6ix9ine line, for me joker had consistent and better ones
