Do a little more research on the rule changes. 1991, the NBA introduced the flagrant foul, meant to curb the excessive hard fouls. The Pistons often get the blame for this, but the truth is that many of the top teams played this way, including the Celtics. The Pistons just like making excuses for losing. If you check the history, The Bulls were catching up to them year after year...first 1988 4-1 loss, 1989 4-2 loss, 1990 4-3...then 1991 the Bulls swept the Pistons 4-0. It was already gonna happen, the NBA just happened to introduce a rule at the same time. The Knicks carried on the hard fouls in the early 90's. it was still physical, just with added flagrant fouls. As for the Pistons "getting old", they were all in their late 20's and early 30's...the 96-98 Bulls we're OLDER, and they still 3-peated.

Very true, im tired of seeing the old excuse for the pistons when the bulls in 98 were older and more wore down. It's not that the pistons got old but the bulls finally matured and became better as a team and they figured them out.

You forgot to mention that if the pistons tried to play sound defense on jordan instead of fouling hard and trying to hurt him because they couldn't guard him, the bulls would have gotten over the hump sooner. The pistons basically used the rules to cheat and not play good defense

One more thing. For two years straight MJ was there congratulating Isiah and the Pistons when the Pistons beat them. But when the Bulls swept the Pistons, Isiah left the court early with most of the starters and didn’t shake the hands of MJ, when MJ did it for them That disrespect is at the root of the MJ Isaiah beef. The pistons won back to back chips and was not old. Their oldest player was like 32. They changed the defense so the offensive players wouldn’t have to bleed

Phil Jackson disrespected the whole city of Detroit with his BS antics during that series as he did as Lakers coach. Why dismantling the Shaq/Kobe team was so poetic for many of us. That said, in Detroit things are a bit more personal and often our teams reflect that.

this whole syestem fell apart once pippin finally matured. They could not deal with both jordan and pippin at the same time
@tiredoffools8929
@tiredoffools8929 5 месяцев назад
Funny thing about the “Jordan Rules” was that MJ still averaged 30 on them boys. Pippen wasn't an allstar player when MJ had him initially. Pippen was only a 7 ppl scorer coming off bench. It took three years for Pippen to develop into an Allstar. So when MJ was battling his team was undermanned. Pistons had 4 hall of famers.
@nabreve43
@nabreve43 5 месяцев назад
The pistons are full of shit. They did not get old, and MJ did not change his game in order to win, pippen, and grant finally grow a pair of balls the next year. That is why the Bulls won. What the piston was doing was a football type of hits and the whole league was complaining only about the piston.
@drama8471

Agreed, the rule changes were to protect ALL players from the extreme physical play that was prevalent throughout the league, not just for MJ.

MJ's so great at basketball, my guy said "MJ don't hit everything" lol! You know how good you gotta be for someone to have to purposely find a flaw in your game.😂 The King of anything always has rocks thrown at his throne.

NBA didn't take out "physicality", they took out assaults.

Dennis Rodman didn’t play for the Bulls right after the Pistons. He went to Spurs for two seasons and built a bad reputation of not listening to coach. He was actually uneanted by the league and it appeared he was going to be blackballed out the league. Then when MJ returned from Retirement. The bulls were desperate for a rebounder. The bulls were interested in Rodman when no other teams were willing to take a chance on him. No one thought the bulls would sign Rodman either because of the a Pippen and Jordan bad blood. MJ is a professional and knew Rodman would give the bulls the rebounding they need it the rest is history.

Also that was bs about clearing the lanes for MJ. Those rules benefited all offensive players.

A lot of younger fans knock the Bulls for losing to the Pistons and not reaching the Finals those years. But those Pistons were the reigning champs - they swept the Lakers. The Bulls taking them to 6, then 7 games is an accomplishment. Young fans also focus on the Finals opponents but never the most dangerous teams that challenged the Bulls. The Knicks took the Bulls to 7 games in 1992, had a better record in 1993 and went up 2-0. And all those games are on RU-vid It was a different sport back then - physical, post ups, fighting for rebounds.

Rodman got traded to San Antonio for Sean Elliott in 1993 then he got traded to the Bulls for Will Perdue in 1995

THE BULLS CALLED THEIR CENTERS "EIGHTEEN FOULS" i.e., they had 3 of them and they were expected to use all 18 during the game. The narrative is what it is but the fact is that the same tactics that Jordan complained about were also employed by his team and every other contender.
@patrickcade658

That's is the main reason to stop being physical because players was getting hurt badly
@thejstatzshow6407
@thejstatzshow6407 5 месяцев назад
The game was still physical thru our the 90s Knicks vs Pacers Knicks vs Bulls and Knicks vs Heat
@iriemon3504
@iriemon3504 5 месяцев назад
The rule change in 91 was the flagrant foul rule. Giving 2 free throws and the ball. That kept the pistons from trying to hurt m.j rather than play sound defense. The rule that cleared the lane was in 2003, and it's the 3 seconds in the paint on defenses. That's why in m.js days, the paint was always clogged, no rule. They say that flagrant foul rule helped jordan score more so he could win. A lie because if you look, his point average per season was higher before the rule.

Rodman left Detroit, played for San Antonio, started getting in trouble on and off the floor, was pretty much on his way out of the league as a free agent and Chicago signed him.

This "They changed the game to help Jordan" is such a garbage narrative because if you go back and watch after the Bulls beat the Pistons then the Knicks, Pacers and the Miami Heat all played the same style of tough defense as the Pistons did!!! You don't have to take anybody's word for it just go back and watch for yourself!!! Jordan got bigger and stronger and he put Horace and Pippin through Jordan boot camp which is how and why Jordan and the Bulls overcame the beatings that Jordan was taking!! You couple that with the fact that the Bulls themselves became a very physical team as well

Bruh they were playing football! That wasn’t basketball! NOBODY IN THE LEAGUE LIKED THE PISTONS! they were trying to end MJ career! No team in the league at no time ever played football on the basketball ball court against anybody like Detroit TRIED to play against MJ! The rules didn’t change! The referee’s started upgrading their calls! EVERY GOOD TEAM PLAYED TUFF DEFENSE INCLUDING THE BULLS! What Detroit was playing was not defense! You can’t pull a man’s legs out from under him while he’s driving to the basket! You not allowed to put a man in a headlock on the basket ball court! You also not allowed to slap and punch somebody all in their face in the middle of a play! GTFOOH!!

@@My-by go listen to what Jordan said when asked "Who was the toughest defensive teams you ever played" and you'll hear where he said "NY, Miami, Indiana and Detroit were the best and most physical defenses I played against"!! Bro I was a teenager watching when he played against the Bad Boy Pistons and the rest of the team's I named and every one of them played extremely physical!!! The rules were not changed because of or to help Jordan!!! The rules were changed to eliminate the "Hack a Shaq" shit because they fouled him so hard on a regular basis which started to end up in bench clearing fights!!! That had more to do with Shaq than Jordan and the Bulls!!! Facts 💯
@curtayars7344
@curtayars7344 5 месяцев назад
@@My-by p.s. I'm not justifying what Detroit was doing to Jordan because there's no place for that type of shit in basketball for any reason, but I'm not going to listen to this B's that the NBA "Changed the game to make it easier for Jordan to succeed" because that's a absolutely garbage narrative!!!! In the 80's and 90's on the streetball court's where I played in Los Angeles and Riverside California the foul rules were simple "No blood no foul" period!! It was gladiator ball or more aptly named "Jungle Ball" and this is just the facts of that time

The jordan rules was to focus the punishments on him cause he was the team's primary and really they're only threat offensively. If you slow down jordan you beat the bulls, thats what bill lambier said in the video.

Game 7, when the great Scottie Pippen scored a total of 2 points, like how exactly is the Bulls going to win when the supposed 2nd best, to whom MJ would entrust the ball, bailed out on the team. Laimbeer said they started winning when he learned to share the ball, how(?).... when the rest of the Bulls, barring MJ , are so intimidated with the brutal plays?

They changed the physical play for money reasons, the NBA was just more physical across the board but the Pistons wore that play on their sleeve. Detroit wasn't well liked by the league, hence they beat Bulls, Lakers and Boston when they all had their great ones and you didn't know the history.
