We follow Canadian Nationals train 534 on its way south, through the wilderness of Northern Canada.
We start at Hay River, Northwest Territories, crossing the border to Alberta and reaching the destination High Level, Alberta, 193 miles south.

I am fascinated by how far up north the Canadian Rail network goes. As an America, I think North Dakota is extremely far, but the Northwest Territories are extremely high up.

At the Alberta to Northwest Terretories border I've read on a roll mark "SEC 113 - OH - 1923"

Watching that video, reminds me of when CN used to run through Chitek Lake, Saskatchewan. That scenery looks like the actual version of it.

This is a very interesting collection of film footage. My family had worked for both the Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Railways, and it is interesting to still see train activity in the North, especially since many of the Lines have long since been abandoned. Vielen dank! tschüß aus Vancouver-insel!

From what I know, yes. They bring fuel up north, and go south empty. Once, there was a line east to Pine Point. It divided just few miles south from Hay River, at Pine Jct. From there they brought in lead and zinc ore. But now the line ends at Hwy2.

@BruceyGoodness No. The the day before they came with two engines to town, but for the return trip they used only one engine and left the other behind.

Do trains still run up to Hay River? Your comment looks like the most recent one .

@@torquetrain8963 I was just in Hay River in September (2022), and there are still trains up there using that line. All tanker cars from what I saw when I was exploring.
