I just have to say how much I appreciate your content gents, you make the hobby very approachable and engaging. I can't listen to other hobby podcasts without getting distracted but the humour and down to earth content you both bring to the table make it a breeze to listen too. I was contemplating getting an airbrush but after listening I'm going with my first instinct that id just get annoyed and throw it out the window 😂
The thumbnail is awesome. So far I’ve only played Kill Team at home with a friend but I am looking forward to playing in my local shop hopefully this year and maybe at a tournament at some point in the future so I would say I do like the idea of getting points for showing up with my fully painted and based army. As that’s the majority of what I’ve been doing over this last year since I found the hobby, at age 45, and I’m really enjoying it. I finished painting the black rim on my Dark Apostles base while I watched this episode. I think 2 Thick Mates and What Bugs the Bugbear indeed need to be segments on the show. Love the work guys you have a fan in Meridian, Idaho, USA.
@@WorHammer40k I really enjoy it. My Word Bearer Chaos Space Marines lost my first match against Leagues of Votan but my Ork Kommandos prevailed against the Hand of Archon in our second game. Win or lose I had fun in both games. The simplified Kill Team taking us so long to learn makes me think a 2000 pt vs 2000 pt full WH game is going to take us 8 hours to play the first time we try.
Great show as always lads Playing, Painting then Assembling for me. Getting started is the hardest part - I mean, how hard is it to sort wet pallette out, pick a few minis and start painting. Once I'm into it always glad I've done a bit. Good for my mental health, clears my mind and zone out with a podcast, audio book or YT on. If i'm doing my best will paint 3 minis in rotaton. For horde troops will try and find contrast method for painting. My fave point is where you've put your baselayers on and then you add a little more detail / shading and the mini starts to pop and you can appreciate the job.
It's 100% one of those "trust the process" jobs when you're just starting with the base colours. The pop comes from the shading and detail! Starting or seeing how much you have to do can be a blocker, as you say, but finding the right approach is a great shout.
I definitely have a love/hate relationship with painting. Sometimes if I'm really passionate about a project it becomes all consuming but then you get certain models or parts of models that you just dread. I think overall its a good experience though - I agree with Dan, finding a way to relax with painting and hitting that Zen state is really important. As a counter point to what Jack was saying about the in between levels of painter. I think sometimes disagreement happens because these people have got to a point where they understand the value of their time, and realistically it is difficult to price painting to match that. If I charged my hourly rate for painting that I get at work no one would want me to paint for them. Often those "up and coming" folk you mention tend to be folk that are unemployed or in education and have a lot of free time with no income stream so having a method of earning money is good to them, and they can spend the extra time without any real downside. Imagine your boss coming in an saying "I want you to work today, but I'll only pay you one hours wage for 8 hours of work" - you'd tell them to jog on! Good ep lads, as always. p.s. Dan - I kinda wanna paint your void dragon
For the 3-color battle ready rule, I feel like it's fine where it's at for a competitive tournament. Having the judges decide is an interesting idea, but I think not knowing how many points you'll receive is potentially a big point of conflict. I'm interested in that idea, or other changes to points for painted, for narrative tournaments though.
Great idea! Fully agree that maybe a sliding scale of points is too much for tournaments, it just irritates us to see 3-colour spray job armies getting the same 10pts as a properly painted army
Loving the pod - my favourite pod to sit and paint to on an evening - With regards to points for painted armies - please don't remove this rule - its one of the only ways I can score points having never won a game of 40k yet :P
Painting is my favourite part of the hobby for sure - still very new and learning all the time - love to play more game jut struggle for time but painting is my jam
Mmm, for me, since I mainly paint rigid body things like necrons and imperial knights, I would have to say genestealer cults. Can't paint flesh, let alone mutated flesh, so choosing their colours, I wouldn't have a scooby!
