When couples approach the court for divorce in Nigeria the law mandates the judge to try and settle and reconcile the couple first, if that fails then decree nisi where they will live together for six months and if that fails again then decree absolute. In statutory marriages, they must live apart for minimum of two years before filing for divorce and even at the stage the chief registrar will attest and file in court that he has tried to reconcile them but it failed. Divorce is not automatic here in Nigeria, the judge is merely adhering to the prescribed law. She must reconcile first and that's the trend in all the matrimonial cases she presides on. Most of the women that approached the court too have not made up their mind to abandon their marriage, they are adults and the judge can not force couple who have approached the court for intervention to solve their marriage to separate. In most cases the wives still live with their husbands and come to court for divorce, I wonder why they don't move out first, just wondering , though whichever way the first step the law requires the judge to do is to try and reconcile the couple. This woman does not appear to be in an abusive marriage she is stating and complying with Nigeria law in every single case she handles. She is competent .

It is the Judge's prerogative to calculate punitive penalties if they think the person is not remorseful or is being dubious. She had used the generator for several months before it was given to the guy. Even if it was for one day, it is still considered used. No judge in the world will award a new generator for a used one.
