I got my very traumatised and shy cat a year ago now... It took two weeks for her to leave the hiding spot... But paw by paw, she started sleeping on the couch with me a week ago 🥰
I’m so excited for you both. My Nina is emotionally damaged as well. We just celebrated 2 years of being together and she’s not her to to getting picked up or sitting on me but her anxiety is way down in a lot of areas and she’s become even more loving. I’m so excited for this year has in store for us
We have our worry cat now for about 4 years. It took her a hot minute to be used to us, but she is still terrified of family and friends. She runs and hides if there is a doorbell ring, a stranger talking on speaker phone (phone), or a little girl staying the night with my daughter. No matter how often they come over, she never gets use to them. Pretty sure it's triggered from her being first, rescued from her birth litter being born outside then the mom abdoning them, then getting comfortable with a rescue, then us coming over to adopt her. It's as if things from outside are bad. She is steickly an inside cat because she is terrified of the door being open. I can tell she loves the smell of outside, but she will never go out. She would rather run and hide than peep out the door.... Actually, I take that back. She did run out one morning, after the door had been left open on accident and she was missing for three days. Turns out, she was just hiding under our deck the entire time. Ended up finally coming out for the first time due to hunger and being scared to death.
@@salmonjanet does she need sedation to go to the vet? My Nina is much more relaxed now but she ripped out her own claws to get away from the Drs at the vets and need to be sedated but you’d never know it by her home behavior. It’s like Jekyll and Hyde, only I’m disabled and can not catch her to get her there and she hate most food and treats no cat nip nothing so I’m unable to get her to consume the sedatives. She’s too smart from being feral for the first 3 years
@@lisazappala4381 she is fine with a kennel in the car. She is just like you described, a total different cat when it's not just family. She is very affectionate, and trusts to be picked up, pets, cuddles, but she does enjoy self play, rather than having us play with her. Idk if that matters, but to me, that's MUCH different than other cats I have had. She isn't so much scared of the vet. We have a mobile one that we call, and he comes with his RV thing, and parks in front of the house. She will let us take her in there, and she acts fairly okay once she has a minute to come out of the kennel. I think it may be the indoor thing she is okay with and has learned to be okay with it over time. I did take her to the vet years ago, and she was a wild woman, and has all her claws, and used them all that visit. The vet had to have two others hold her down and wear protective elbow length gloves to keep her still. I hated it and cried, and knew this wasn't going to happen again. And I know this may not help, becasue a home call vet is more pricey than the office pet visit, if it's even available in your area, but I just figured I'd answer your question. There is another option tho. You can actually set up an online order for cat drugs, like the ones you need every year or few, and either get them delivered, or act like you are going to buy them, have the vet send the rx via email to you, then just use that info to buy the meds at a tractor feed or local farm feed store. I know that sounds crazy, but hear me out. I had to do that the first year, cuz I couldn't afford the home visit vet. They are VERY helpful and most of them can help you with what ya need. I got the vacs, the needles, our cats fav wet food, plopped it down, had the needle ready, and just put it in. Most are on the back of neck. Some are leg. Depends on what you are wanting and how old your cat is. *DISCLAIMER* I'm not a vet, or a vet tech. I only did research online, and it worked for the year I did it. Please do your own research before deciding that. I hope some of this helps. I know it's hard to have a precious baby so scared of everything, but it is how they are. We love them and just want to do the best we can actually do for them! ❤️❤️❤️

Last Year, i adopted two cats from the local shelter and they were advertised as "from one home, has to be adopted together" but when they were at my home, they didn´t like each other at all. Constant fighting (with fur flying!) So i had one napoleon and one shy wallflower. Others might have returned them to the shelter But thanks to all your videos and knowledge,i was convinced that i could change the life for these traumatized cats. i played a lot with both of them, i even did not clean some peestains, to boost the territorial confidence of my napoleon , i deployed sent soakers everywhere. The wallflower lived in my bedroom for 6 month but through play, i challenged her to step over the doorstep and down the stairs until she found the courage to come down on her own. Both showed constant improvement, with occasional setbacks. Now, one year later they tolerate each other and they act like two sisters (one older and one anoying younger sister)😂 but the fighting stopped completely. No more peeing. They both are snugglecats and both tolerate bellytouching 🥰I am positive, that they will roam my garden together this summer. I can not thank you enough for what you do. You educated me to be a better cat father. Best wishes from Germany
You are how I wish others were. Many poor cats are adopted & if they demonstrate a bad behavior back they instantly go to the shelter which only reinforces their feelings of trauma & being abandoned. I know you are delighted with the improvement in them. Every animal needs & deserves love & a happy & good furever home.
when i adopted my grandmas cat, she was very traumatized, when i brought her home shed find a corner in a room to hide and bury her head in the corner and shudder. i would leave her alone most of the day then twice pulled her out sat down and lightly stroked her then after about a minute id let her go and hide. after three days she started coming out on her own. she now has very good confidence. even approaching strangers who visit on occasion. she is my best friend and the piece of my grandmother i can keep with me.
When I adopted my cat at (estimated 18 months old), he was freaked out, terrified and aggressive. Now, as I am writing this (estimated 5 yrs old) he is snuggled under the duvet, tucked up behind my knees. Later on, when I turn off the light, and turn over, he will do, what he does every night. He will emerge from under the covers and snuggle into the crook of my arm, purring.
I was gifted for Christmas two years ago. An Egyptian Mau. She was abandoned in Florida with 5 babies. Moved to PA. and picked for me. At a shelter. Shelter said she was returned twice before I picked her. Super high energy. She has no fear. Except of the wind. Freaks her out. She follows me all over the house. We are working on a bit of fetch now. Lazor light time. So glad I was blessed with this precious lovebug. She is such a snuggler. I am thrilled she was returned. So I can be her human momma. 💝🐈⬛🎉
Does she react to the sound or the feel of wind more? Maybe some good wind chimes would help with the sound? My cat was fascinated with the neighbor’s wind chimes on our walk yesterday. I was thinking a mesh carrier could reduce the stimulation from wind, but if it’s sound, it may not help, though cloth mesh would absorb sound better than a metal screen. Metal screen might cause a scary whistling.
OMG! One of my cat's favorite toys is a mini beanie baby worm named "Inch", which she was playing with as you were saying "Inch, by inch, by inch"....😂she was zooming and going nuts!!!

I just want to extend the most heartfelt Thank you!! A little over a month ago, The sweetest two-year-old Orange chonk started showing up on me and my neighbors porches. My neighbor knew that he couldn’t keep him long-term, and I had never owned or even particularly like cats. I started watching “My Cat from Hell” and your RU-vid page in preparation of potentially becoming a first-time cat, Mama. Well, as of yesterday, THE BOY IS MINE!! Sandy (AKA Mr. Sandman… because he truly did bring me a dream! ) is perfectly housebroken, tolerant of everything from sponge baths to rambunctious kids, loves car rides and backpack walks, and his new vet labeled him “both very sweet and a little spicy”. Today me and my wife were unexpectedly evicted from our apartment. So this video hit me VERY hard because me and my wife just recently adopted 2 kittens. They are only 3 months old now and were really worried for them due to our situation. They are extremely loving and sweet. They aren't any trouble yet as most kittens are lol but they don't get into trouble. They like to play A LOT together but nothing bad. Me and my wife watch your videos for the help you provide and because Cat Daddy is Bae. Lol but anyways, I hope that everyone out there stays strong and positive every day. Ever since I learned from you about how to *really* take care of cats, I've realized that the concepts apply to humans and any domestic animal. Problems are caused by needs that have to be met, or by trauma. My (relatively) newfound understanding of cats has led to a deeper understanding of humans, and has made me a lot more understanding and patient. Thank you so much for that.
When we moved, I had Houdini in the cat carrier. Our new place i showed him (while still in carrier) where his litter box, food & water was, then I went to the bedroom, shut the door & opened the carrier. Yep he went straight under the bed. I made sure everything was in the house, then I opened the bedroom door. That very night he came out to eat, etc & explored the new place. Three days later he's back to his ole self, & found the placement of the windows.
In July, I adopted a pair of bonded siblings that were very timid and traumatized, particularly around men. They were only 9 months old and had a very rough first adoption that resulted in them being tossed on the streets to fend for themselves. I've taken baby steps with them and it's amazing how much they have blossomed! The sister is more confident than the brother and loves being held and climbs on my chest for cuddles now. She loves my husband and is now even showing interest in my 6'2 brother. Her brother still has a long way to go, but has so much love to give on his own terms. I continue to take baby steps with him and push that challenge line and I'm really proud of him!
When I adopted my cats, I was told that they were skittish and may hide for months. I sat down on Day 2 on the floor and ate my breakfast in full view of them. They instantly came out and started exploring. I took that as a positive sign and ate my meals in that same spot for about a week. Yes, they still ran from me for a short while if they felt I was looming, but they grew more confident by the hour. I did use Churu treats to push their comfort zones, too.
My cat Edgar is now 17 years old. I've had him for the last 12 years. I adopted him on a request from family member because he has some behavioral problems with biting. I worked with him, sometimes until my last nerve, and ultimately accepted him for who he is. Now, 12 years later, and him at age 17, we live in perfect harmony. He is my Greatest Joy, and i wouldn't change him even if i could, which as we know, cats do what they want, and we respect that.
We adopted 2 fairly feral cats 6 weeks ago. They basically had no idea what people are good for - they would hide all day, they were super scared of hands, even scared of eye contact. 😮 Bit by bit with LOTS of patience, good food that we're hand feeding ONLY and fun playtime we're bringing them out of their shell more and more each day. 😊 Now they no longer hide from us! They wait for us to come upstairs to their part of the house, they eat right next to us out of our hands and they play on top of us and jump up our legs. They're still jittery and we can't touch them too much yet, but we're getting them accustomed to that as well as we go. Food is the golden currency 👍 And just lots and lots of repetition and good experience so they learn that we're not a threat but actually we are the good news. I love seeing their progress after 6 weeks, it's heartwarming when you see your scared or shy cats taking up all their courage and succeed 🥰 It's so rewarding and worth it!
Just these days, my Albus (adopted persian floof with sensory issues) crawled onto my lap for a cuddle for the first time. We've had the little guy for four years, he was abandoned probably because he just wasn't the lap cat his previous owners had exspected. And yeah, it was a lot of gentle and patient nudging and offering and showing him that we're safe to snuggle with.
My cat will never stop "banging banging banging" on the litter box when he is done. Other than that, despite a couple of bites out of nowhere, he is perfect. YES. We are guardians. Not owners.
Oh they are my permanent 3 year old babies. Raised 5 humans & my initials are MAH! I get them outside only when Momma is present. They were raised around small dogs so they show a very similar behavior as a dog. They come when called they stay close to home. I've had neighbors ask me how did Your cats to mind You & not ever take off? LOVE LOVE SIMPLE LOVE & yes playing, safe outside play & walking & talking (like a meow oh ya then what happened?) Haha that's truth very talkative outside when we walk no leash or harness required I'm s lucky yet long x animal Momma so I feel like I connect with not only my Babies but lots of other dogs & cats seem to gravitate towards me. ITS SUCH A PRIVILEGE JACKSON ❤ I thank God for all my own & all animals & the opportunity to connect with them. You've been such an awesome utube friend & I never dreamed I'd get to text with You when I first got to know You on Your TV show. This is also a HUGE privilege as well so TY my Friend! My boy cat is an OCD litterbox cleaner. He spends 5 minutes covering up and has to scratch all surrounding walls afterwards 😂. Just a weird quirk that makes it all the cuter. His sister is nothing like that, she has her own cute quirks like body slamming against my hands or legs when she wants pets.
We adopted 2 cats (brother & sister, 2 years old at time of adoption) 14 months ago. Neither knew how to play - they were with an old lady who just had them there for company but I think did not interact with them much. Fast forward to present day, the male is very affectionate (but a bit of a bully to his smaller sister) who STILL will not let us touch her. She will come very close for her favorite treat, will even lick it off our chin (yes, we did that to test how fearful she is), but we cannot touch her/pat her with our hands. We work on her everyday. Baby-paw steps: Play first to shed some anxiety, then we let her come really close with our hand down at her level with 1 finger extended (still hoping/praying for that rub of the cheek!), then treats. She’s getting close, but 14 months in the works… OK, we did make mistakes along the way, but we hadn’t discovered Jackson Galaxy yet!!! Hoping it will be any day now. If anything, these kitties are teaching me patience!!! Oh yeah, the old lady’s BF was abusive to her, so who the hell knows what he may have done to the cats.
I found a feral cat in my barn late last October. I caught him about 2 weeks later, and placed him in a catio cage whilst I made up another one for him. He seemed to be about 4 months old, but wilder than a march hare, as he banged his head into the top corner of the cage in pure panic. He did the same thing an hour later moving him to "his" cage. He stayed in there for about 3 weeks when I would pick him up (avoiding scruffing him) and place him on top of a table to eat some wet food. I put a cat carrier up there, and then started feeding him inside of that (to get him ready for his trip to get neutered) He now is loose during the day, and mainly stays in the "cats room" but he has recently come into the other part of the house gingerly. If he is cornered, he will allow me to approach him and pick him up. Except for that first day he has never offered to bite or scratch. But he keeps that tail close to his body. He will purr sometimes when I stroke him and hold him, and I think he likes to be held. I imagine it will take maybe years before he will really come around, as he apparently missed that 8 week window of imprinting to like humans. He did respond in the barn to "kitty kitty kitty" and meowed and stood and looked at me, and within 2 weeks I got close enough to make "the grab". But as your video says I t's on their time, and yes I offer him challenges, not always I "read the room" so to speak. I have had to drag him out from under the bed, but that was to put him to bed, I have 11 indoor cats including "Buster" and 6 others get put up at night and they know what "kitty bedtime" means and it's most always at 8:30pm. Now he knows what it means, he will jump up on the cat tree where I get him down and put him up with some food and water of course.
I too have a strong " kitty bedtime " routine, complete with a song, and coconut milk in each dish. Then little one goes downstairs with me, and I close the hatch.
I have never owned a cat, I always considered myself a dog person- but an animal lover in general. I started binging your videos when I was the long drive to go rescue two feral kittens that had found their way to my son’s rural home. I have fallen in love with both the kitties and your videos! Our Toby was fascinated by the outdoors and would door dash and run from us. And end up hiding under the car in the driveway. We started him on outdoor time with a harness, always giving him treats when we came back inside. Little by little we took the harness off and he is now comfortable outside with us being nearby, follows us or observes or hunts for critters when we are outside gardening. He’s ventured to neighbors yards and sometimes chases critters into a bush, but he’s learned that we don’t like it so it happens less and less. And he Loves to run back inside to get his treat! It’s such a relief that he is no longer terrified and trying to run away from fear.
This gives me a lot of hope! I got adopted by my neighbours cat (which she got from the shelter). He constantly ran outside (towards my home). And first thing I noticed was that this cat is definitely waaaaay more indoor than outdoor orientated. But his trauma caused him to run away. So now I am creating a safe home environment. I still allow him one or two hours outside after work & keep the door open during days that I am off. But he keeps on returning “home” (to me) and I am so proud! 🥰
Just want say thank you. We have an older cat (girly) and got a boy kitten. We watched all your stuff, we followed it religiously! We went from hissing hatred to best friends in 3 weeks....It was a long 3 weeks and we are very tired now, however, we all sleep in the same bed now. Everything you teach helped us, including the scheduling of meals, which solved most of the puking issue my older cat had, while also addressing introductions gone wrong with the other adult cat and the kitten. It's been 2 months since I implemented changes and that says immensely about your work and suggestions. Reintroductions are still on going and I will work on that concept of challenge you're talking about. Almost a year ago we adopted a younger cat that was previously entirely feral, she was very shy and afraid of people, we put a bell on her collar because it was impossible to find her at times, she was terrified of being touched. It took a lot of work and baby steps but shes now a very vocal kitty that likes to be held for short periods. She follows me around the house like a little shadow, and were working on her anxiety around strangers
I had a revelation recently about my formerly feral cat. I realized that she had so little close experience previously with people that she didn’t really even distinguish types of touch, tone of voice or pleasant interaction until several years into our relationship. We assume cats understand the intention of “good kitty” said in a soft or loving tone. But it was all just words to her. Now she enjoys touch, seeks closeness and attends to my tone of voice, but it took a few years and lots of repetition.
Same thing applies with people who are in rehabilitation - whether be for addiction or for someone recovering from a life changing event such as a stroke.
Once I realized that cats just behave off of pure instinct and don’t feel guilt or that when they attack you it’s not really about you or them disliking you, I feel I have a better relationship with my bf’s cat. I recognize that she has some anxieties from past experiences so I try to respect her boundaries. I do wish I could snuggle her more often but I know it may make her feel trapped and so she may attack me. She doesn’t attack my bf but he’s better at handling her than me because she’s a bit too heavy for me to hold her in the same manner that he does.
I adopted the sweetest little black cat last year and slowly, over time and with gradual changes, she's now eating in the kitchen, climbing the cat castles, and cuddling on the sofa. She's discovered her mojo, and I'm so happy to see her comfortable in my home.
Hi Jackson. I'm commenting here as a last resort. Me and my partner got my two cats last year. We built up their trust very quicky from watching your videos. And they are so pretty and happy, just rays of sunshine...until last week We took our cats to the vets as we noticed our ginger one was acting unusually anti social and then we noticed a bloody stool, turns out one of then has a stomach infection. We had to feed him medication everyday and he really WASN'T enjoying it. We took him to the vets and he is in almost perfect health again, but now he seems like he is in a mood with us. He hasnt purred despite being better for days. He only purs when we feed him, or give him treats, then he runs off as fast as he can. His tail is never up anymore its either horizontal behind him or wrapped round his legs while he is sat down. We are trying to rebuild his trust from scratch, but there has been 0 progress so far. At random times (once every couple of days) he will purr ferociously and beg for our attention; but after the stroke session that follows that, he's moody again. Something is clearly wrong, but we have no idea what to do and neither do the vets. Please help us Jackson, we want our baby feeling better and confident again.
I am going to adopt a cute stray cat this week ❤ Some nasty people beat her up and broke two of her legs and just threw her outside like that… and everyone around me says that I will not be able to handle the cat because I’m irresponsible but I am going to prove them wrong and I will be the best cat parent to Luna with watching your videos and getting advices from other cat parents 🐱🥰

3:06 true facts only time I fed my kitty in a hiding spot was during July 4th Fireworks. Poor lil guy was so spooked I gave him his dinner in my closet, which he accepted with headbutting and purring so I think he appreciated it
Thanks to you, I got my very shy shelter kitten to come out of hiding after five days. My first instinct was to just give her treats behind the dryer where she instantly ran to. But I remembered you saying they have no incentive to come out if I do that. After frustrated tears, I day 6 sat on the floor with her and grabbed a toy. I refused to play with her where she was, and slowly she came out to grab the feather. I just started throwing it around and she loved it. A major success. Did this for a few days in her room, and now shes a brave girl who plays and sleeps confidently in the open. Thanks Jackson. two weeks in and my little girl has cat mojo now💜
I adopted an elderly cat about 2 months ago. When she first got here she just wanted to leave. Get outside and run. But now she won't even leave my side whenever I'm home. She has moments still. She was an outdoor cat. But out short little outings in the backyard are enough for her to get her fix.
When I first brought Minnie home from adopting her, she hid under the nightstand. Didn’t come out, didn’t explore, nothing. I let her chill there for a few hours and then I coaxed her out with a feather toy that wound up becoming her favorite toy, and gave her a little pet when she came out. After that, she was off to the races, she explored the house, came and sat on my lap when I watched tv, and even as I write this she’s snuggled up next to me giving herself a bath. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
Hi Jackson, I’m a new cat mom, starting week 3 with my 5 year old sweet, giant boy. These last two weeks have been stressful for me because while he adjusts, I’ve felt like I’m either doing too much or not enough to make sure he’s doing ok.. I’ve driven myself insane and almost borderline hovering over him but from a distance to make sure he’s comfortable/eating/sleeping/eliminating ok and that he’s engaged, free and everything else under the sun. I love him so much and I don’t regret getting him at all, but I didn’t realize just how stressed I was making myself by worrying over him and it came to ahead today when he was being a little different in the morning than he usually is. Turns out it was because my routine today was different from what it usually is and I went nuts trying to decode what he might have been trying to tell me. I’ve been watching your videos these past few weeks to help me be the best cat mom possible for him, but today I had to turn to a lot of your videos to help me out and when I realized the reason for his behaviour, I also realized that your videos have helped inform me about so much and point me in all the right directions for my research (I also bawled my eyes out watching this video and decided to convey my gratitude in a comment). OK.. at 1:26 the black and white cat is pawing at the cabinet door over and over. My cat does the same thing everywhere - on reflective surfaces, but also on my closet door, the wall, anywhere. What is that?!? My only thought is that when I first got my kittens, she used to be able to open my sliding closet door like that when I lived in China. So my guess is that since then, she believes she can open other doors that way too with enough persistence. I've been meaning to send a video of her doing this to you, but I just saw the same behaviour on this video, so figured I'd ask here.
Maybe like you said, she was able to open that one door doing that and figured if she was persistent enough she'd be able to open any other door as well.
I have always been an animal lover & because of that a domestic cat hater. I then met the love of my life, who I found out was the crazy cat lady who lived with 5 cats. That started as a problem when we moved in together as the cats did nothing to convince me that I should love domestic cats. Urine in shoes and cat fur all over my clothes were the most annoying things to happen. Over time however I came to the realisation that it was not domestic cats that I hated, it was irresponsible owners of domestic cats. My wife only let the cats outside with supervision, so no native animals ever died to her cats. She showed me that whilst cats are inherently hunters, that genetic disposition can be catered to through play instead of letting them roam the streets. We've been married for over a decade now and I did come to appreciate & even love those cats (all passed now), to the point that I agreed to her choosing 2 kittens with our son a couple of years back to move in with us. I'm still not a crazy cat man and at times they annoy the sh.. out of me with things they do (like destroying furniture instead of their multiple scratching poles), but they can also bring laughter and joy with the other things they do.
I recently adopted a 3 yr old black cat named Batman from a co worker who nursed him back to health after finding him half dead on the street. I discovered your channel through searching up how to give this little guy a good home. Wanted to say thanks for all the great videos, and im happy to say that thanks to you Batman and i get along better every day he spends at home. Im sure in a few more weeks, we will be best friends 😊.
I adopted Milo and Pearl about 2 years ago from a rescue group. Milo was brought in from a TNR program for treatment for a leg injury, and they did not want to release him back into the wild. He had been fostered, but was extremely fearful. Pearl was a tiny kitten when I picked Milo up, she had been brought in with her mom and siblings, but she was incredibly curious, out and about, and completely stole my heart! I had to wait to get Pearl until she was big enough to be neutered, about 6-8 weeks, before I could bring her home. Milo had been living under a big bureau and behind our old claw foot tub after I blocked off the bureau. He is extremely food motivated being a big oranger chonker, so I gradually started moving his dish further out into the open. When Pearl finally arrived, it took a little while, but her persistent curiosity and role modeling brought him out of his shell. They play together and sleep together. Milo has finally begun to climb on me when I am in bed, and we have some cuddle time. I was finally able to clip a few front claws back while he was laying on me. I cannot pick him up, he still panics if he is approached suddenly or with both arms outstretched, but we have come a long way. Honestly, it was Pearl, mischief-maker and chief instigator, who brought him out of his shell. Thank you for all your insights and encouragement! I have had cats my whole life, but Milo was the first semi-feral boy, now learning to become a love bug.
Great video Jackson! My kitty hero! The scared kitty under the bed: I actually put a barrier of boards around my bed frame, and blocked off access behind, (extra storage space for you!) I also don't allow cats in the closet until they are a more secure beasty. They should have a safe spot, preferably a carrier they haven't been scared in with bedding/padding, or a kitty bed, something theirs, but not a cower spot. You will have to manage their environment until they get their mojo going. Cats are very physical, and their body talks as loud to them, (sometimes louder!) as their brain does. They get into a "scaredy pose" and stuck in a feedback loop. It usually looks hunched and ready to bolt, kind of a loaf with paws out. If you catch them being stuck, pushing them over gently does work for most to break them out of the loop, at first it may take some doing on your part, just keep pushing them over. You are watching for them to huff, maybe lick a bit, blink and focus their eyes. They will be offended at first, but if you make it game-like, and regular to normalize it, pushing them over and out of a stuck pose can be a powerful tool for building that relationship with your kitty and helping them get un-scaredy. Teaching them sniff sniff and giving them things to sniff is also handy, as it forces them to use the thinking part of their brain instead of raw instinct. The key is anything to break that scaredy trance in a positive manner . On the plus side, you will also not find any stress messes under your bed or in your closets! Good luck and good pets!

Thank you for sharing these resources. Our kitty just suddenly appeared one day and never left. The advice you give has been helping us raise a chill little baby that miraculously got along well with the dogs. It helped take some of the anxiety of having a cat you didn't prepare for away.
I agree wholeheartedly about the value of treat rewards for getting past challenges and fears .Last year I adopted a young ,long haired female cat who was afraid of being brushed (among other things) .Obviously a long haired cat needs brushing so I had to get her past that. It took several weeks of tiny steps and letting her set the pace, but her fear gradually subsided. Six months later she will allow me to brush, tease out knots and snip out any little mats without complaint. Treats and little steps were 100% the key.
I've watched so many of your videos by now; I just adopted my first pet and kitty (2 years old) yesterday. And yes, this game of inches (The first night [last night]) she emerged and was meowing at me a bit, so i got out of bed, laid down on her level a few times, and offered her some scent-soakers. I was laying outside by her cubby-hole and she sneezed. I then realized she has a cold! Although she is still decompressing (3-3-3 rule), I've got her bundled up with some old wool trousers and am keeping a pot of steamy water next to her.
I blocked off under the bed so my new wallflower kitty, Yuki, couldn't bury himself there and never come out. I just gave him a safe spot that wasn't so buried. That way he can easily see what was going on around him but also feel safe. This encouraged him to naturally want to come out and explore. He watched his confident brother Haru exploring and getting all the attention, and it motivated him to come out for some loving too ❤
My two new girls joined my two other girls almost a year ago. They were doing so well until I flew out from China to the US for 2-3 weeks. I had friends they knew come to take care of them but when I returned, two were fighting and hunting each other. That meant that one of the girls would no longer sleep in bed with us all. It's hard. However, just last night, she hopped back up into bed and then even crawled up on top of me to sleep on me. That's a first! Exciting! These videos are so helpful! I will be challenging them soon with a hurdles challenge to see how they do. It's something new for us all.
Hey they're called slippers!! Im a reseller and because i do a lot of sourcing in thrift stores i can eventually find everything else i need to buy while I'm there, and usually they're good quality items for cheaper than i can find anywhere else. Works for me.

This is so true though. My desire is that my two lads be afraid of nothing at all. If anything we bring home scares them, it gets put on the ground for them to inspect. I'll move it little, see how they react. And once they ignore it/walk away it goes to its designated place. We're still working on people though. . .one of the lads doesn't care. . .our other lad. . . I can usually coax him out with treats, he will NOT play, he will come out for a treat or two before going elsewhere. . .which is a good step forward for what we're able to do presently. Can't figure out how to make them not take off when opening a trash bad though. They'll bat it, and paw at it when left on the floor or when I rustle it. . .moment I pick it up for it to go in the can. . .they both take off. Not far though.
My 5 month old, Phoebe, went to the vet and was terrified when we got home. She hid under the bed for nearly 2 hours. I got her food and coaxed her out. She's been fine ever since.
One of my ladies is very timid and the other hyper/dominant. So I've help and encourage my timid angel to be confident enough to take her own space and feel secure :) Carrots are the way forward!
I have a 'feral' dog, who thinks he's a cat. The same technique works. It took almost 2 years and a very Alpha cat brother to make him a happy part of our pack.
I used to get so nervous trying to give my cats medicine and they could tell, and avoided me. Now, when it’s time fir the next dose, I say “c’mon baby, it’s time for your medicine.” Then I mix the meds in a wet treat he loves. He licks up the med & treat and I tell him he’s a good boy the whole time. Yes!!
I have you as a subscribed notification so I never miss your posts. I would love to have a cat but my grandchildren (3 of them)are alergic. I used to have 3 cats, one pure black , one tiger and a mixed colored. I miss them so much that is why I always watch your videos. Thanks for the worlderful world of cats.
Yep, adopted 5 year old bro and sis. This vid was quite comforting to me. I've been doing it right. They had been retrieved by the rspca inspectors. So we know they were in a *bad* place. They were very .... hyper alert at the slightest move or sound. Doing much better now. Cats definitely acted like they have ptsd. Definitely inch by inch.

I have this very sweet female cat who is coming by and trying to get in the house a few times daily. Sooooo sweet and obviously not feral. Problem being my two 18+ male cats do not take kindly to strangers. And by that I mean they will tear me up if there are stranger cats within 10ft. It's getting very cold. I have posted on every social media, walked the neighbourhood. No one is claiming. I believe she's probably been abandoned. I'm afraid to call animal control or SPCA for fear of her getting put down.
When I woke up this morning I found a note from my cat laying on the coffee table: To Whom It May Concern: 'My captor continues to torment me with bizzare dangling objects. She eats lavish meals in my presence, while am am forced to subsist on dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of eventual escape...that, and the satisfaction I get from occasionally ruining some piece of furniture or the fear that I may be going insane.
