I've migrated through all of the blackberries of which the passport was my favorite. I moved on to the Titan 3 months ago. The passport form factor brings me back to my happy place. Simply monstrous and frankensteinish smartphone! I love it... Charge once every three days, battery is a champ! Rugged and firm weapon of choice for me where productivity is my priority for business. Comments about physical keyboards don't mention the fact that virtual keyboards pop up and get in the way of content. I like the constant availability of the keyboard without sacrificing content on the screen while typing. I love this freakish phone. Waiting for the next blackberry in 2021. Until then I'm all in with the Titan.
Virtual keyboard is actually good. But physical keyboard is more accurate and less stress on the eyes. Since the eye to hand coordination is not needed on the physical keyboard since touch typing is possible on a physical keyboard.
Glad to see you are willing to try something that many might feel "outdated", even with some of the things you couldn't get used to. I'd to say the back button has always been on the right since the old days, from smartphones with physical (home button) keys. I think companies wanted to switch things up and put the back button on the left instead, and many people got used to that, but I personally still prefer the back button on the right :D
This is the second review I see for this device. I would definitely buy it if it was more widely available. I never had an Android with a physical keyboard before...
Great video Ben. I can see the sense in these phones. I didn't know about these, just checked and they are available on Amazon here in the UK. One of the reviews was from a UPS driver in the States who bought it as it was rugged and if dropped, wouldn't break. Makes sense. I can see outdoor workers buying this too as the physical keyboard would work even in the wet unlike some touch screens. They won't sell loads but there will def be a market for them
I think there'll be market as well for phone with physical keys, though, the success of it would be dependent on its design/execution. Probably if any company want to make a phone with keyboard, perhaps approaching the slider design, whether it'll be side slider or down slider, would be make sense as it won't sacrifice any screen estate for content consumption, or... A design like the Sony Ericsson P910i, a fully integrated phone with a detachable keyboard.
I enjoy physical keyboards but I don't think I would ever wanna go back to it personally. With that being said, my favorite phone ever was the HP Palm Pre back then.
"bla bla bla * oh who is this ? ... ok moving on ", I laughed so sudden and loud. I am a proud user of Titan. Marvelous phone for someone who looks for such particularities. Confirm the 3-4 day batttery duration / charge if properly handled (data turned off when not needed, no background apps, etc). Otherwise 30-48 hours / full charge.
Thanks for the review! I love the Titan - it’s great for work as well as a powerful compliment to my iPad Pro 12.9 that I use for creativity tasks. Not sure if it’s because I’m older, but the muscle-memory works well for me; I have all apps associated to key shortcuts. And that exceptional battery life means you can leave for work at 6am and use it full force all day with no worry at all.
Honestly, the back button makes a lot more sense on the right side. Every phone I've had has been that way, and for right handed people its closer to the hand. That gets used a LOT more than the app minimizer, so im glad its there. It would have been nice to have the entire toolbelt programble however, sort of like how you can reassign the alt and shift keys.

I've had a Unihertz Titan for months and honestly don't care for it too much. I used it for about 2 weeks as my main phone and then after that it just went to sit on the shelf as a novelty item. Cool idea, cool phone, just needs much better specs and optimization to be in my pocket full time.

The Titan has much much better performance in 2020 than the Priv, it's no contest. And the Titan is the perfect emergency situation device with that walkie talkie mode and 2-3 day battery life
