You are very true Jeff in your statements. I learned Gap shooting a year ago, but I noticed that I go more and more to Instinctive shooting, with some Gap including in my head. I did my first competition today for 2024, its started up great, but after 15 different goals(3D), I lost my Focus, and started to miss the last 5 targets. Ok I was tired( I have some health issues), but Im pretty sure that due to my bad condition, I lost my focus today. Now Im eating iron tabletts, and will continue My Gym excercis, to increase my Condition, and with that I hope I get my long term focus back, thanks for a great Video, I will check out Robert Carter as well

As you talked about the string materials, my buddy and I were just talking about the differences between d97 and b55 and wishing someone would do a side by side comparison of the two on the same bow where we could see the difference in speed, noise and feel. I’ve always been a b55 guy that builds them and pre stretches them with no issues but have always wondered about the true benefits of d97 vs any negatives. Love the video and ol Robert Carter is one of my absolute favorite follows

Love this video! Over the years, after deep research into all the aiming methods, I’ve landed in the same mindset. I never tried the aiming methods. I have nothing against anyone who does. I’ve been geared up to delve into aiming several times. When it comes down to it, I just like the simplicity of shooting like you explained. Even for 3d, I’m just treating that like hunting and shooting instinctively. Jeff, I assume you shot this way at the TN Classic? Dang impressive score!

I actually have two shot processes that I practice. One multi-step process to maximize stability for target shooting, and another bare-bones process for hunting. Both of my processes use instinctive aiming, and practicing the target shooting process is a good exercise to improve my hunting shot process.

Nice one Jeff. 2-time Silver Olympic Medalist Jake Kiminski focus' on the target rather than the oly recurve aiming sights. Works for him. Should work for us common folk too.

I just got back to recurve bows after 30 years I got a top archery bow 60 inch at 45 # I'm a 27 inch draw length I'm shooting a 500 grain arrow with 200 grains at 29 inches does that sound good for the bow I've been shooting for about a month now and it seems to work well. I've been shooting archery for about 43 years. I've been watching all your videos and enjoy them and the information that you but out. Thank you

Love Robert’s channel! He seems like such a good guy. I agree with everything both of you are saying when it comes to Eastern bow hunting. However, there are Western hunters getting it done past 40 with aiming methods regularly. They are very impressive. But let’s be real, muleys and elk do not jump string as bad as whitetail. Personally, I shoot instinctively out to 20 and aim and longer yardage. But I just don’t shoot that far! My stands are set up for under 15 yards. I can’t shoot as well as you or Robert, so I keep it close! Lol

Focus and Dedication. Whether it be basketball, baseball, archery, carpentry, the law . . . matters not. Focus and dedication, imo, are the deciding factors separating average and superior. In archery, how ya truly master the accuracy issue is a personal journey. I see as many mediocre gap shooters as instinctive. Consistently placing arrow where intended can't be achieved without focus and dedication. Consistently employing those 2 attitudes then result in confidence. Good luck to all on your journey.

I can't shoot a recurve w/o kanting the bow & shoot the arrow off the rest. I can see with my eyes on a bare shaft when the arrow is too weak or too stiff. B4 I hunted deer with a recurve I bowfished only with a recurve on a platform. I did it with a 30 inch draw with a custom recurve that was @ 65 lbs @ 30". So now I'm shooting a lethal 68" bow setup with about 52 lbs @ 30". One thing I did the 5 yrs b4 that was that I was an avid duck hunter & the ducks are moving & I believe that has made me a better bowhunter due to that experience. When I was hunting deer with a old version compound bow I was getting close to deer & never stopped them b4 I shot them. That goes back to the 1st buck I shot on Pearl Harbor Day years ago. When u stop a deer u r just giving up your ambush position. I setup spots in late winter & none of those spots offer me a shot @ like 30 yards. I will checkout Robert Carter & look to sending u a video later in the year of a couple of target bucks from MN.😮😅

I shoot a 45# @ 28".My arrows are 500 spine 30.5", 100 grain tips.510 grains total.Will putting 125 grain pionts change the spine to much?How else to add weight.Should I cut them to 29" and add more weight to the point.They do fly great now.Just need them heavier for the bow.

Jeff is there a website or club page where i can go to find out about the trad shoots that are available here in North Alabama? Ive tried to do some research but a lot of what I found is old and we don’t have a good trad shop over here on the east side of the river. Thanks so much for all your help for us rookies.

Well there aren’t many all traditional shoots really close but the Howard Hill Classic is coming up soon at Tannehill State Park just outside of Birmingham and it’s the best! 4 day shoot! First weekend in June, also Alabama Society Of Traditional Bowhunters has several great events, they’re all usually on Facebook

Another great video, Jeff! I dont know if you'll be able to answer this without seeing it, but im currently anchoring with the back of the fletching touching the tip of my nose. Would you say that's under drawn? It looks like you go back much farther, but i can't tell.

If you’re touching your nose with a feather I’d say you’re drawing plenty far enough and that really works well!

Is this instinctive or are you able to just focus, aim, fire from many years of experience? I got a small scope recently for my recurve and it helped center my shot, but as you say, the longer I spend aiming the less accurate I seem to be or it ends up veering off to the left. I think the longer it takes you to shoot the more your trigger arm loses that initial spring or stability.
@dexterousd

Some relate the drawing of a bow to the swing of a golf club. You can stop the club mid air but it doesn't seem to be as fluent or as clean a shot.
