As a diehard fan of both U2 and The Killers, I can’t believe I’m just now discovering this in 2024. This definitely has the spirit of the original with The Killers’ signature style.
Just so all the haters and U2 defenders understand: Bono said the Killers did something with this song U2 couldn't (not necessarily better). He then said the radio needs Brandon Flowers' voice. "His voice!" So there is mutual respect here. Great original. Great cover.
I’m a U2 fanatic. I’ve loved the band since 1980. I’ve seen them live over 100 times. I hate anyone who tries to cover U2 songs. However , the Killers have absolutely blown me away with their version of my favourite song of Achtung Baby. I can’t get enough of it. When Brandon sings “Ultra Violet ….baby baby baby light my way” I’m literally floating.
I totally agree with you on this It’s very rare any band does a cover of an original artists song that’s as good as the original! But I have to say I’m torn with this one ! As im also a massive U2 fan I grew up Listening to them!! I don’t want to admit it but I actually think the killers version of this song it better than U2,s 🤷🏻♂️🙈😁👌
I fucking love the original . ALL TIME FAV LOVE BALLAD. But this is brilliant. They did a great job of changing it just enough but retaining the beautiful feel of the song.
As a long time U2 fan - at least 40 years - I’m extremely partial and bias to any band doing a remake. Bono and the boys are a classic whiskey that doesn’t need any additive or sweetener. That being said, it’s pretty rare that a remake could actually touch the soul in a different, dare I say more powerful way than this one. This arrangement, the harmonies, the build up, holy crap, it’s so moving it brought tears to my eyes. Minus the video part just the audio and letting it settle into my bones…. So powerful! Well done!
I agree with you for the most part. Up until you said this was better than the original. That’s when you lost me. This feels like a decent stripped down cover. But doesn’t even come close to the original especially when U2 play this song live. However, there is a cover on this same album(Achtung Baby 20 year anniversary with every track covered by other artists) in which Killers covered Ultraviolet that actually contains a song that is arguably better than the original. Love is Blindness by Jack White is a freaking masterpiece. I like that he totally changed up and made his own. Which is what the Killers didn’t do here.
I've been a U2 fan since 1982 and Achtung Baby is my favorite record. And I love this cover. I love the killers. They did it to honor U2. Just accept it as an ode and move on with your lives. You don't have to like it. And if you like it better than U2's original, that's fine. You might recall: we're one, but we're not the same.
Brandon Flowers has one of the most beautiful, haunting, melancholic, emotive, pure voices I have ever heard. When he sings it’s as if you’re seeing inside his soul. A rare gift indeed.
I close my eyes when I listen to this and I feel weightless. That’s how good this cover is! It captures the emotions of the lyrics and the essence of the killers. Brilliant!
Hands down one of the best covers ever! The Killers added their distinctive flavor and style and Flowers vocals are inspiring and tasteful. Ultraviolet will always be one of my favorite songs from my favorite U2 album.
It's not easy to produce a good U2 cover. I think the Killers nailed it, since they revamped it to their own style. That being said, the original is unbeatable...especially LIVE in the early 90's.
Llevo viendo a u2 toda mi vida pero esta versión es la hostia y más allá.bravo Brandon tío, eres un crack pero esto te eleva a los altares. Gran canción versionada por los mejores toreros posibles.
Wow...Didn't think I would like anyone covering this song as this is one my favorite U2 songs...But Wow...It's a great spin on the song! Great job Killers!
As a huge fan of both bands all I can say is: SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL. but hey, what did you expect: Brandon has a 4-octave range, totally agree with Bono about the quality of Flowers' voice.
This is a great cover. Its different in a good way. The ending is awesome. U2 in their prime could not be beat. Check out Ultraviolet Washington 92. Bonos voice is incredible. The band is at their apex. It is one of my favorite songs of all time.
I have to confess; U2 and I go back decades, and I thought this would be terrible. But I was wrong - it`s bloody near perfect. Thanks for putting it up!
Love both U2 and The Killers . Don’t know why I’m finding this cover only now but it’s awesome. First heard the original by U2 in the movie Click. The Killers are the first band that I got that much of an instant hype about I bought Hot Fuss and Sams Town in one shot. Wish I could relive that day.
U2 fans will say that this cover sucks, The Killers fans will say that is better than the original, and me as a fan of both all I can say is that is a good cover, it has The Killers style, that may be the reason that makes some people dont like it, each band needs its own style, otherwise it becomes repetitive as the actual bands. Like it? Good. Don't like it? Move one, go to listen U2 version. Don't include singers religion, beliefs or habits. Freddie Mercury was respected for his preferences, why can't other singers be
Achtung Baby is my favorite album of all time and the Killers have a great cover here. It pays homage to the original while giving it their own style and would love to see them live some day. They have a solid catalog of their own but also have done a great version of INXS Don't Change.
I mostly avoid covers because I'm so often let down. But I thought, the Killers? Doing Ultra Violet which may be my favourite on Achtung Baby? (May be - too hard to choose a favourite) Alright then. Let's see. This is fantastic! You can hear the Killers but they gave Ultra Violet the respect it deserves and it is the original feel of Ultra Violet. Thank you Killers!!!
Oh Sometimes I feel like I don't know Sometimes I feel like checkin' out I want to get it wrong Can't always be strong And love it won't be long Oh sugar, don't you cry Oh child, wipe the tears from your eyes You know I need you to be strong And the day is as dark as the night is long Feel like trash, you make me feel clean I'm in the black, can't see or be seen Baby, baby, baby, light my way Alright now Baby, baby, baby, light my way You bury your treasure Where it can't be found But your love is like a secret That's been passed around There is a silence that comes to a house Where no one can sleep I guess it's the price of love I know it's not cheap Oh, come on Baby, baby, baby, light my way Oh, come on Baby, baby, baby, light my way Oh, ultraviolet (oh) Ultraviolet (oh) Ultraviolet (oh) Ultraviolet Baby, baby, baby, light my way I remember When we could sleep on stones Now we lie together In whispers and moans When I was all messed up And I had opera in my head Your love was a light bulb Hanging over my bed Baby, baby, baby, light my way Oh, come on, Baby, baby, baby, light my way Oh, ultraviolet Ultraviolet Ultraviolet Ultraviolet Baby, baby, baby Baby, baby, baby Baby, baby, baby, light my way Baby, baby, baby Baby, baby, baby Baby, baby, baby, light my way Baby, baby, baby Baby, baby, baby, light my way Baby, baby, baby, light my way
As an U2 fan I'm happy The Killers honoured this song, that is an U2's masterpiece, by making a brilliant cover. My favourite band, and one of my faves songs from the best album of all times, Achtung Baby (forever!). Still awaiting on another "Baby" to be born, U2.
This is a great cover. Nearly every cover done was exceptional. Jack White, all of them. Mark's bass work is undeniable. One of the few bassists I can actually pick out. Amazing work!
I wasn't sure I'd like this cover until I heard the percussion. Brandon's voice is spot-on and let's give the band some credit -- I almost feel like I'm listening to an homage of the drums in Sunday Bloody Sunday.
This is an amazing cover. I’m huge Killers fan but Achtung Baby is my favourite album of all time. The intro isn’t great, but the rest is a superb interpretation. Incredible vocals from Brandon. I wish he would keep to a simple song structure like this when writing for The Killers.
There are cover songs that I love right alongside the original; it's not a competition, but a love for both, or more than two, versions of a beloved song. This is one of those beloved songs. I love this _and_ the original versions right alongside each other.
I have been a U2 fan since their 1987 "The Joshua Tour", where I went to see them at the open air concert in Edinburgh at Murrayfield Stadium. As far as I am concerned, this song is performed brilliantly by The Killers: Brandon Flowers voice is exceptional!
This is, hands down, my favorite U2 song, without contest. This cover? Not as good. But it's still very good. I really appreciate it, and don't understand all thee people saying how horrible it is. I mean, c'mon, it's not U2 performing it, it's the Killers, and it has their sound. An amazing blending, really.
Okay, U2 is incredible - we all know this. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say, "Man that Bono sure does suck" or "Did you hear the latest piece of crap that U2 just put out?" No. That said, I love the Killers and I love Brandon Flowers' voice. And I genuinely like this version better than U2's. Just because U2 is well, U2.....doesn't mean that it isn't possible for another band to do a better cover, nor does it mean that other people aren't entitled to think that another band did a better cover. And that's all I have to say about that.
this is one of those covers where you could imagine the Killers coming out with this song on their own because they've successfully injected their signature style into this song, while keeping a few stylistic cues from the original, like The Edge's echoing guitar.
i See four irish men from dublincityireland taking a bow ..... what a beautiful Version.... a deep from the heart honoration to U2 !!! hands up for this diamond of a Song...never have there been nor ever will be a better "coverversion" .... thank you for this Tribute to my personal "fab four" ... my "beatles" from dublin EPIC SONG!!!!!!!
Haber que buen cover una gran canción de U2 muy poco valorada pero que emociona iluminame de color ultravioleta amor el camino o sendero que seguire. Y quien más que THE KILLERS para hacer un cover como este emociona. Felicidades por canciones como esta.
I don't know a lot of U2 songs. But I absolutely love the Killers. Especially Brandon because he's got an amazing voice. I'm not going to say "this is way better" because I don't even know the original song. All I'm going to say, is this is really good, and it makes me want to possibly check into U2 more. :)
