Gaming industry insider Jeff Grubb has caused a stir claiming that the KOTOR Remake is "Dead" despite Embracer only yesterday showing it still as in active development... here are my brutall honest thoughts

The sadder thing is that even though the project is dead in the water, its highly unlikely they'd ever let that old KOTOR 1 remake fan project be revived after using legal force to get it shut down, so in a way they've deprived us of two chances of a KOTOR remake, not just one. And frankly speaking I'd have much preferred the fan remake over the official one since the official one sounds like it'd be quite unfaithful to the original. .... anyway, thanks for being honest Mr 100%. I appreciate that you try to get accurate information rather than just jump on whatever idiotic popular hype train is choo-chooing through the social media cesspools like all those other disingenuous influencers and trashy fake journalists.

I appreciate your forwardness and honesty. It is missing from a lot of people who report news, and those false or misleading headlines can really affect one's perceptions of what is actually happening. So, I very much appreciate you cutting through all the BS and giving us the facts. People are smart enough to figure out their opinions from there, I would hope, and I for one will maintain hope that the game is in development until the company gives us other information to indicate otherwise.

Appreciate you brother. Don't care about this game, never played the original but would have definitely bought a remake because of my love for the IP. Either way, thank you for doing actual journalism. Unnamed sources(leakers)are not credible unless they have the goods to back it up. For now the state of the remake is at best unknown due to a conflicting report by an unnamed leaker.

I've played KOTOR and KOTOR II (My personal favorite since Kreia is basically my mental mentor) for probably over a hundred times in total and with thousands of hours just on the OG xbox. This news is.. strangely heartbreaking and somewhat comforting if true. Given the horrible state of play for remakes, remasters and especially for those of high esteem.. for this to be shelved for the time being and if they should ever pick this back up then it should set the premise AND idea for it to be made correctly from the start.

The worst thing is that damn Disney had a good fan project called "Apeiron Kotor" shut down, assuming they would do a remake themselves. For this pitiful failure. Sell back LucasArts to George Lucas, as stock price must be very low 🙂

I want this to happen so bad. I remember seeing the trailer and I literally screamed out loud when seeing Revan ignite his saber. I've been hoping for a remake for so long, there's a reason I've been going back to KOTOR for 15+ years. It's so sad seeing this game not being pushed enough.

Jeff Grubb has been right about a lot of things in the past. He has a lot of valid sources when it comes to things. Does it mean he's right here? Of course not. If he has an insider at Embracer, that doesn't mean that person is correct either. It just means HE'S being fed incorrect information as well. We'll just wait and see. Or we won't see anything and the game will never come out. I think the project is too big to let it go quietly though. I think there would be an actual announcement if it was truly OFFICIALLY cancelled.

Appreciate the news man. Things look pretty dark about this game but honestly I’m gonna stay positive. We don’t know the future and it’s possible that we might get this game next year. Called it from the moment they said Aspyr was making it, and then again when Embracer handed it off to a B-list studio. Aspyr does not make games. Aspyr makes PORTS. They did not have the expertise or the experience to do something like this.

I do wonder if “paused indefinitely” might be a thing with this. Theres clearly licensing issues with sony having to remove their announcement trailer. But given Sony’s vision for the game, the removal of all the devs from the original game that joined aspyr JUST to make this. I honestly dont know if i even want to see this ‘remake’ any more. For me it needs to totally faithful to the original, especially when it comes to the storytelling method. Id much rather have no kotor than a bastardisation of genuinely a top 5 of all time game.

This is nothing but a WIN/WIN situation. The original game is still intact and demands to be played even now. The remake now has no chance of disrespecting the original, even if on nothing more than technical changes. I advise the people saddened by this news to do one thing: PLAY KOTOR! Revan needs you. I work with the assumption of course that the KOTOR remake is dead because frankly I think it should be, sue me.

Yeah, when they hired writers like Sam Maggs and talked about changing the combat in the re-make, I became very nervous. Thankfully, KOTOR can now remain untouched by "modern gaming." A graphical update would be nice, but nothing else.

Exactly. Give me amateurs using existing game design, voices, music character design on Unreal 5 any day. Revan is the one thing left Disney hasn't destroyed. What is Disney gonna do if they release it for free in some Eastern EU country who laughs at US lawyers? Attack it publicly if it's non profit and call you thieves? You mean nobody writers that want their postmodern deconstruction of KOTOR to still be made and think that a video game company who can't lose 500 billion a year like current Hollywood will take that loss? This game is dead unless Disney makes their own studio. Disney is currently HEMMORAGING money and facing a possible hostile takeover by Nelson Peltz. Welcome to reality. Disney is about to lose 200-300 million on The Marvels post marketing/theatre cut and and that doesn't include money they steal from ESPN/ABC to market their own product, when they could market someone elses.

Hopefully you can inform us sometime soon and maybe the remake will be apart of it. Keep up the good work and don't worry about the other people trying to attack you, they just have misplaced anger. Just keep up with the great work you do here. I have watched a lot of your videos about KOTOR 2 and it has made me look at that game in a different light than I had when I played it the first few years when it came out. Especially when I was able to get it on my laptop and be able to mod that game. I think one of the last times that I played it on the console I had gone through about 60% of the game before I could have all the parts to make a lightsaber

Here is my perspective on this.... The interim report may still list the project if they have a couple producers working on planning/negotiations related to the project. It is entirely possible (and perhaps even likely) that the report from Jeff Grubb is accurate, but that Embracer may turn around and assign it to some new studio at some point in the future (hence leaving it on the interim report). Jeff has very well established contacts internally at basically all the publishers...

Yeah I wondered that myself. I mean it seems like they might be waiting for a studio to get freed up and take things over. Saber right now is handeling Space Marine 2 which seems to be one of their only tangible games that has real guarantees behind it of being released as a proper AAA game. I remember playing this game when I was a teen. I hadn't a clue how DND mechanics work, so I couldn't 'Play' the game. I'm at that age now (where I say things like I'm at that age now! 😆), I have been able to play KOTOR 1 and 2, with a grasp of the mechanics and enjoy the story telling. I will say 100% Star Wars, know that I trust you and that the scrutiny you are facing is not deserved. I hope this message gives you a sense that you are well received by so many people in the Star Wars Community who appreciate you as much as I do. I think this is more of fan frustration over Disney not allowing Star Wars fans to enjoy the content they want from Star Wars. It's always something with the stuff we fans love. Although I'm no expert I feel that journalism in general, not just gaming journalism are far more interested reactions and will tell half truths and lies to bring up the reactions from RU-vid channels. I'm sorry that you had to deal with backlash, but you were honest and this was bad timing for this leak to appear. I'm not even worried about the KOTOR remake happening or not, I would love for it to happen, but I'd love to hear news for you and other channels who care about the truth and not fish for reactions. It's easy to believe the doom and gloom. Communities are built around not only getting used to it, but celebrating it (how many hundreds, *thousands* consider the original an untouched treasure to cherish and still regurgitate past writers just to justify this needing to be cancelled?) Hope is harder to believe in. In times like these, you'll see that hope squashed with a mere turn of phrase from the right person. All it'd take is Embracer or Sony saying something to squash it for good. But I don't think there's anything wrong with hoping for something you want to happen when things are in the dark. Sometimes a little shred of optimism in our day to day is better than a shred of cynicism. And at the end of the day, if that hope does get squashed, at least you'll know there was a community of people that hoped with you to the end. That ain't so bad to me.

At least The Old Republic is still alive. Back to that I guess. Hopefully the KOTOR remake is still alive, but just taking a while and kept quiet until there is more information. I want to see some more of modern KOTOR release or even a new Republic Commando. At things point, I expect a Dino Crisis Remake.

the part that angers me the most about all this is that its supposed death is that A) being reported by a leaker and that B) its being taken at face value when it some random dude on a podcast/game journal and not from the horse's mouth, like yeah reportedly the devs making it aren't in a good spot anymore but i'd rather hear it from the horse's mouth and not some dude doing it for clout or worse

Welp, I guess that's that. On the one hand, I would have loved to see the game get remade. On the other hand, I knew it would likely be tainted with loot boxes and major changes altering the story. Honestly, we have the game now in 4K resolution, and I've enjoyed it now for a couple decades. What's a couple more decades at this point.

Oh good! I was expecting to rant on this one but turns out.. I’m still ranting but agains this stupid idiots that are bored and spread fake news for fun. Ugh! I'm more annoyed about the fact that there was that other kotor mod or remake or whatever it was that was being developed independently of disney but got forcibly shut down after this was announced Now that this is fully dead in the water rather than being in development hell, maybe we can see a remaster of the game without corporate intereference. Even typing that out felt naive and optimistic

Perhaps it’s better if Disney doesn’t touch this game. But… *SIGH* - I want a remake… I want a KOTOR 3… 4…5… Revan standalone story, movie. Ah god I am just so in love with the old republic and everything about it. *Inhales* - like I said, maybe it’s for the best regardless.

Man. What a disappointment. I’m an original fan of KOTOR from 2003. I’ve periodically checked the internet for any and all kotor news for 20 years. This is perhaps the worst data I’ve heard in all this time.

Frankly, they would spoil this remake, Sony was in control wich means it would become an exclusive Sony game, also it may be twisted to get filled with woke bs, so somewhat i think this is for the better. Maybe in future we can have the most perfect remake of Kotor games.
