I get with having a desire to keep creative control over a project, but it sounds like Scott's was a bit unreasonable. One man, even if they are a genius, is still just a man. And with something as grandeur as this project and it's scope, you have to take certain liberties with surrounding yourself with likeminded individuals. There's also always time to edit and review content.
thank you so much for updating us on unreal cinemas progress, i will admit i am heartbroken, but its better than going on without knowing why no updates were made. I hope the youtube channel doesnt get taken down so we can enjoy scotts completed work
Soooooo should we all go into hiding on a distant bog filled planet permeated with the dark side of the force? *until Kotor 3 or a remake actually occurs.
And certainly don't license out your franchise for a TV adaptation when you have not even published book #5 of 7 when you are getting slower at releasing each new book even without Hollywood style attention on you 😅 I feel like even if GRRM finishes ASOIAF now it will be dumbed down and tailored to screen adaptation due to a change in mind set in the time since ADWD was released and the GoT TV series exploded in popularity. The fact that he is working much more diligently on TV scripts than his novels at the moment pretty much confirms this. IMHO JK Rowling's work suffered progressively after Hollywood put money signs in her eyes following the first Harry Potter film releases.
It never could from the beginning lmao, kotor 2 was unfinished, kotor 3 was canceled, Disney decanonized it. The apeirion remake got canceled, this show got canceled, the switch dlc for kotor 2 was canceled and now nobody even knows what's going on with the official remake. Kinda upsetting when it's your favorite series. The only "new" kotor content that's been somewhat successful is TOR
I will be honest, when I first saw the project come out & he was just gathering assets & doing sizzle reels, I was worried it was potentially a Patreon cash grab. After seeing the updates, I am a bit sad at all the potential lost. Hopefully the creator is doing ok.
I think we all underestimate just how taxing working on your own projects can be to yourself. I think announcing such a big project publicly puts so much added pressure to everyone involved, I was really looking forward to this series but I hope everyone is okay.
Couple of years ago it felt like there wasn't a better time to be a kotor fan. Now though it's beginning to hit rock bottom, I hope Scott is okay and his health gets better.
Even if he does get better, if his Patreon was flooded with enough money then he could simply live on that for a long time, so I wouldn't get your hopes up expecting him to appear again. Stopping work just after he has created the first major installment of the series was like a perfect lure to draw in fans, and the Patreon left open for the better part of a year after his final video. Even if just 1/10th of his 115k YT channel subscribers contributed just $10 a month to his Patreon for 11 months between his final video and the cancellation announcement he would have made over $1.25 million, which while not enough to retire on in your 20s is certainly plenty to live on for decades, or at the very least pay off a hefty mortgage.
All I will say is if Scott does decide to return to the project, I hope he goes ahead and Delgate much more of the work load, maybe restructure the production so he only deals with whatever he is specialized in, or perhaps be the "executive producer." and just make sure there is a pipeline. The other option would be for Scott to find people to hand the keys to and hope they can finish what he started
@@Assassino275 Finding people who are trustworthy enough to work on a free project you're not paying them for, and them actually doing the work is also extremely hard.
As someone who was a Patreon member for about 2 years with huge hopes for this series, it would have been great like you said the only issue I have is the lack of communication from Scott. If Scott really wants to put the fans first he should step down and allow another group of others to take over share the work he has done and allow others to finish his work while he heals.
likewise, since 2021 i have been so excited for this series to get made, since i could not expect such a great thing from disney, and to hear that even this series wont happen is even more heartbreaking as a star wars fan
@@100StarWars Yes... It's heartbreaking... Hopefully, we have this channel and ur videos ! I love ur kotor and star wars contents, never said it before so I'm doin' it rn 🙂
As a 3d/texture artist myself, I can't understate how colossal of an undertaking this is for one single dude... If you haven't made 3D models before this can be a slow and sometimes tedious process, without even getting into texturing, rigging armatures and animating, lighting and sound design, making PR material, doing scripts... this is not a job for one man if you want it done in your life time. No matter how passionate you are you *WILL* burn out.
It does seem like this franchise has been taking losses left and right. I guess all we can do is hope that is a "the night gets darker just before the dawn" type of situation.
It’s incredibly problematic to me that they said absolutely nothing about refunds. Not even a sorry that it can’t happen. Just totally ignored the subject
Judging by what I've been told... there's a rather serious reason as to why Scott has been totally AWOL. He must be in real bad shape, and he doesn't have a PR team to do any of this damage control. Much of the funding itself went into the production of the stuff available on the channel, as well as the unreleased content. So as an artist, it's pretty difficult to even consider a refund when it's been spent on the project. Fan funding overall is just a very risky thing.
Last time I tried to convince someone to play kotor, they discovered a remake was in the works, then this series. They wanted to wait for that instead. Well... That went well
@@existentialselkath1264damn star wars is cursed franchise lmao And I means as whole not just with old republic or the eu. when comes to star wars the games, films and even the shows either get axed, put hold or never come out. What I mean by this is show like clone wars got cancelled ( I know it came back), you were going to get space to ground battlefront with 3 for it be tossed away, you got sequels films, 40 years worth content was tossed away for new one which isnt even as good. For me it's kinda double edge sword as I'm kinda happy I didn't get into star wars as much as a kid cause I be so depressed with what's happening with it way more so....
@@thealexgundam5006 It's only cursed if you look at it from a perspective of not getting remakes or the overall Disney custodianship of the IP. Beyond that it's fine (if you can overlook the poor prequel films 🤣).
I hope Scott gets better in every way and helpful if he resumes the project he will let more people help. That way he can do more of a supervisor role while working.
Hope all fans who may have donated to the project are refunded. Sad the remake is off, was always too good to be true. The patreon was unable to shut down? How convenient, lol Im off to replay both games in homage of what could have been.
I think it's uncanny that every time someone wants to revive some of these older games, they all get cancelled. It's almost like the IP holders are jealous and don't want anyone to update things at all. Some of these scenes could definitely be used in a total remaster of KOTOR. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that his Patreon was hacked, causing him to lose access, or that someone destroyed his files, which would also contribute to negative health. I've been there myself and was targeted because I was making new or updated content for KOTOR. Why else would someone physically steal my PC and hard drives containing the files I worked on for months? It's happened so many times now for different projects there's just no way it's coincidence. 3000 ship models for a total conversion of Freelancer to Star Wars, including many obscure ships from the expanded universe, someone deleted all my backups on the mod server, just "OOPs" was all the sympathy I got. Several really cool models for KOTOR that added new disguises from the Hyperspace War era. A whole new Juhanni model and expansive wardrobe. Both of those were on physical drives that got stolen and possibly destroyed. And more recently content for Skyrim where I got hacked and my SSD was ruined costing me $600. These are just a few instances over the last 20+ years. I don't believe in coincidence, but I'm also boggled because: what am I doing that is such a threat to anyone else? It's like someone doesn't want people to find joy in anything or give their artistic ability to the fan community at all. Like they want us all miserable. It's ridiculous. It makes no sense. It's like those behind it want to kill all creativity instead of tapping into it for everyone's benefit.
Truly sad and disappointing. At least we got that Malak vs Revan short film. Hopefully what Scott tried to do will inspire others to make something themselves. I hope Scott is OK.
In the beginning of this project, I was also one of many who auditioned to voice act any of the characters. Let's just say I shot my shot and missed. 😂
As someone who was funding this on Patreon, I am disappointed that this series is canceled but not unexpected. When the updates stopped, I pulled out after two months of silence. The project might have been too big of a dream/hope for renewing KOTOR interest and sometimes projects like this does end in a failure. But it was a project worth investing into. A small chance of success is better than no chance at all.
I’m extremely frustrated by this dilemma because I was so excited for this. I really hope Scott has a well recovery and he’s able to work on other projects again
I hope Scott is okay. It’s sad to see a project like this end, but health comes first. I hope the remake happens, at least. If you want to post something positive, how about a 100K subscriber special? 😀 You’re so close!
They didn't have the keys to the accounts... they're holding back is actual living status. If he were still alive, why wouldn't he at LEAST put out a simple community post directing the announcement of the cancellation? Add to the fact the Patreon was closed. But they didn't have the keys? So how did they close the Patreon unless they have proof it's a dire and drastic circumstance? The only other conclusion is that Scott simply shut down the Patreon and disappeared. But why not shut down the RU-vid channel as well if it was so detrimental to his health? Why the efforts to get the Patreon closed without the keys but not the RU-vid? It's possible the family just wants to keep it hush so they're left alone. I mean it's a brilliant cover story. The project gets cancelled and he drops off the gird to take care of himself and comeback stronger than ever! In time, we'll forget about all this and some few will look into it years later to discover the truth. I hope I'm wrong and a comeback is coming however I wouldn't hold your breath based on the available information.
I 100% agree with all what was said. Hope Scott will get better soon and hopefully be willing to get back on the project. A shame he didn't cut it out into episodes :(
Seems like some fishy stuff as well. They don't have the keys to YT or patreon so seems like Scott won't give up access or work with them? His health is number 1, but to not have the respect for the project to communicate or let your team do it rubs me a bit off and feels like there was some more at play
Having worked on my own personal projects that have also been in the public eye, the biggest issue I had was the pressure that the community puts on you to get it done; and not the pressure of the project itself. All the suggestions about hiring help, delegating, and so forth, were actually more of a drain than just sitting down and being allowed to work on it in my own way in my own time.
I'm sad this project was cancelled. It looked so cool. I had no idea the scope of it was to remake the entire Knights of the Old Republic game in Unreal Engine 5. That is a massive undertaking, especially if the majority of it is made by one person. I hope Scott is okay.
In that official statement they only refer to him in the past tense. Not once did they say something in present or future tense. Also nothing even hinted at any possible future work. Only that they cannot divulge all of the facts due to privacy. 2+2 and I'm seeing 4. Sad to say the lack of present & future tense phrases and lack of any "when he recovers..."
So it was a scam for donations all along. Make a trailer for a show, ask people to donate to fund its production, then disappear for a year before announcing its cancelled. What a great scheme. It's funny how gullible desperate fans can be, always falling for obvious vaporware.
Scams rarely (if ever) have that much effort put into them. Authors do succumb to tremendous stress of creating something massive, especially when you are a perfectionist, trying to control everything.
I did not know much about this project other than some awareness that it was happening. I really hope he is alright and manages to get himself healthy. I have often thought of what a project like this would be like and it is nice to see some of the truly amazing video. Thank you for sharing this. I don't think KOTOR is cursed as I am in the middle of playing it yet again and I am off to play some more. Cheers.
It's a damn shame. CGI and animation is bloody time consuming at the best of times, the moment it stops being fun you run the risk of burnout. I'm glad we have the Unreal Cinema content we do have.
I started supporting him I think since the first week of him announcing the project. It’s really sad to see it come to this and like many others have said I really hope Scott is ok. Maybe one day when he’s better he can resume the project, and if he does I really hope he brings more passionate people on to lighten the load on him. I’m staying on the discord just in case some time down the road we hear something good. May the Force be with you always 100% Star Wars. We’ve had a lot of bad news this year, but your videos are one of the things that keep the passion for the KOTOR franchise alive
I had a feeling it was some health related stuff. While he is a passionate and hard working man, this project was a lot for one person. Even with the help and donations, he took on a lot of the work and is a perfectionist with all of it. That can really wear someone down, especially with health problems added on. Wishing Scott all the best as his health comes first.
Kotor 2 was half finished but still good Then Kotor 3 was cancelled Then years later Kotor Remake is announced and probably cancelled Then Kotor 2 switch DLC is cancelled It's a shame how robbed this franchise has been time and again
Sorry for sounding harsh but a year with no word is unacceptable, considering people were giving him money. No one’s to blame but Scott, he behaved stupidly by trying to do so much on his own. OCPD people should not do projects like this if they are that unstable with it. I hope he gets the help he needs but it would also be best if he disappeared from the internet and never returned.
Me when I heard the news “When you walk away, you don't hear me say "Please, oh baby, don't go" Simple and clean Is the way that you're making me feel tonight It's hard to let it go” Can anyone guess this song?
nah he just ran off with the patreon donations, it's just like when that star wars comics loser lied about remaking the star wars 1313 game a few years back.
I suspected that this ambitious project might never be finished. This was a *lot* of work for one person to finish, and with no return. Regardless, will always have my memories of the original, which remain untarnished.
It really does feel like star wars is falling so far down it's going to be hard to see how Disney recovers from all these failings in film, TV and gaming parts of the franchise. Even fan made content is struggling?!?! Is this how star wars falls. No one seems to have the heart or energy for star wars any more.
I understand his passion, but I would rather wait for a long time form myself to say that this project was definitely worth the wait, than him overloading himself with all the work. For those of you that remember the animation Astartes that was a 40K project, that too was made by just one guy. With my path as of now in life going the way it is, one of the things I have on my to do list and provided I have enough "F You" levels of money is to make sure he has everything he requires to make sure that this project is done right and without sacrificing his health in the process. Especially as I am a KotOR fan myself and I want to do what Disney obviously wont and breathe new life into Star Wars in the way it should be for the true fans of this story. Especially to see our psychotically happy droid have a new coat of paint in a manner of speaking. Update: I too understand his concerns of wanting to build it not only the way he intends it, but to make sure that there is no internal conflict that would hamper it. Currently I am in a production of a student film at Media Tech Institute where I am working alone for the most part and I get it, but I also learned the hard way you cannot work on something like that completely alone and be ok. If he is reading this, please do not be too afraid to ask for help. I was driving myself so hard and I have suffered for it. Just make sure you do get help from people who want to see this vision through.
This is so sad, such a promising project, vision, and assist. I can only hope the project and kotor community gets what it truly deserves. That being said, I also wish it had proper management overall.
Thanks for the official update. It's sad news, if expected after a year of silence - Id kinda figured but there's always hope until there isn't. Maybe we can get the guy doing "Heir to the Empire" to switch over when he's done with that?
As someone who has been waiting 20 years for an SWG emulator to get JTL on the version before the combat upgrade, if there is passion it will happen, just look out who you give money to.
As frustrating and disappointing as this is, I'm glad we got some form of closure on this. I donated to the Patreon for months and months, then when the dark period began all sorts of rumors began flying around that it was a scam, and the creators took the Patreon money and ran. I never believed the skepticism but it was very disheartening to have such absolute radio silence. At least now we know it hit an unfortunate wall and is on pause until further notice (ironically like the remake). Here's hoping the creator, who from the sounds of it was doing 85% of the entire production themselves, manages to turn their health around and get into a better state, one's personal wellbeing should always come first and foremost. Also who knows maybe production will resume in the future, the crew seem legitimately passionate to give KOTOR fans the win they've been needing for years.
Honestly? I would have believed a certain "Mouse" had his lawyers give Scott a call & a harsh talking to. It would be enough to make practically ANYONE go "into hiding".
"Kid, I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other. I've seen a lot of strange stuff. But I've never seen anything good coming since KOTOR 2." - Han Solo
Hey Scott- return the donations, or let someone else access the assets so that the community can finish what WE all funded… I hope you are well health wise, but please DO THE RIGHT THING.
Okay overworking is a serious thing, manga authors have died from it so I understand that Scott take a step back to heal. was looking forward to the story and how he'd do it so it is sad. This ego grip of one man artist do mimic Georges zeal for the first Star Wars but this is a fanfare of something we all have a love for so we should be happy for the awesome art we got.
It's quite sad as I love the series. As a former artist myself I can understand the passion you put into a project. But for something this big, I can understand it might burn you out or if your into the project so much, you forget about yourself. I hope both his and the teams health recover and never lose their passion for these things. If they bring it back, a great way to start again after a refresh for yourselves. If they don't, they still did an incredible job on something they loved so much and wanted to share with the world. Masterpiece.
it makes me recall the Jedi Academy's unofficial expansion: Kotf, developed by some turkish guy. it was to contain every battle from the movies with every playable character. he has been working on it for years and it was supposed to be released in two parts. he released the first part containing the models of the characters then he disappeared for years. he at one point appeared saying he decided to join the army lmao
It should be more than obvious that Disney is trying to bury anything and everything KOTOR related because they know outside the superior star wars EU lore compared to the garbage they've put out
It's really sad for Scott that after all the effort he put in this project he will not get to see his vision realised, and for all of us that we'll miss the opportunity to enjoy his magnificent work come to life. At the end health is all that matters. Stay strong dude
I honestly don't understand why people want a KotOR remake or movie so much. To me, the games are perfect as they are. The "dated" graphics and the CRPG combat system are a major part of the charm to me.
I didn’t really care about the remake. This is the KOTOR project I was excited about. Hope Scott’s health improves soon regardless if this reignites the project or not.
I was certainly watching and tuning into that project for a long time and was a bit stunned by the sudden silence last year. I watched people make accusations along the way but assumed it had something to do with the transition of the game from Aspyr or something. I knew Lucas Arts had given the go ahead, but things change... Hearing that it had to do with Scott taking on too much and impacting his health is so sad. As someone who has started up my own "baby", I get the temptation to hold on to too much and know it has impacted my mental health in a way as well. I couldnt imagine trying to do something of this scale. Praying Scott gets healthy all around no matter what happens to the show. It would have been special that's for sure. Thanks for the update.
somehow I'm not surprised... of course, if this is something that makes us fans happy, so it's only natural that Disney will try it's best to destroy every attempt to make it happen..
As someone who attempted to create a machinima with friends, and had it fail very early after just the teaser trailer was made--I get it. Regardless if it was mental or physical health, that has to come first
Aw man. I was looking forward to see his next update, but haven't seen any new videos from his channel ever since. Now I know and it really saddens me. 😞 I honestly don't want this series to be cancelled, but at least postponed the project until everything works out and hope for the best.
As the one who was announcing Republic Commando 2 - Delta Operations years ago, i can totally understand him and i know how much one might want to give a project to the fans but ultimately find yourself having taken on too much... i still respect people with big visions, and totally feel them when they realize "I cant do it"....
I believe it was Hayao Miazacki who once said. ' If you want to be a filmmaker then be prepared to but your entire life into it" might be a misquote but I can't think of a better summary for Scot's situation. We all wanna put our best for our creations and as an inspiring writer I can understand the obsession with doing everything and keeping others out even if you need them. Sadly passion alone is not enough to make something and things get in the way I think a lot of us have had visions of KOTOR adapted into a remake, a film series or episodic series. Hell I have a vision for how to tell the Mandalorian Wars in a series. The big thing to take away is that I don't think any fan was as dedicated or as close as Scot could be. I'm sad that it took a heavy toll and caused a big set back and none of it is his fault. I hope he recovers soon and doesn't jump back on unless he's truly ready
A few words in your video and I already suspected a health problem, or worse. This is very sad for all parties involved but I am grateful for your video to be a reminder that you can't carry a whole ass project on your sole shoulders. I hope a lot of people will get that part right.
I've been wondering what happened to the Unreal Cinema Project. It's pretty sad to hear. I was looking forward to it. Guess I gotta wait for the remake/remaster of Kotor.
it figures it was getting too quiet its too bad that it came to this, but I can still find ways to satiate my Star Wars appetite for one I came across SMASH CITY studios
Poor dude! Definitely a sad day. I hope for his own sake, more so than for the project's, that he ends up feeling both well and enthused enough to revive it.
I think that health is only an excuse for real reason of cancelation. Real reason is that Disney has possibly send him letter of cease and desist with information that he should not disclose to the community why project was canceled. So he chose to blame it on his health because how otherwise would he explain that.
lucasfilm allowed him to do the project he has a video about it so disney has no reason to cancel it and why would they now keep it a secret from the public when they've never done that before lol
@@sw-gs i doubt disney had anything to do with this, seems like he was a dude who promised wayy too much and had an unrealistic goal to reach and when he began to feel the burnout he just cancelled the whole fucking thing. oh and he also scammed 1000€ a month from his patreon subscribers so if disney cancelled the project he would've deff refunded them lol
Learning the project was cancelled a fraction of a second after learning it existed in the first place (this video being the first I'd heard of it) was fun.
I’m going to cry :( my childhood is shattered I was so exited to see they were going to remake this smh 🤦♂️ I got my hopes up again when they said a month ago they were still going to make it now I’m going to cry omg 😢
