The chorus actually reminds me a lot of songs from older Disney Channel Original movies. Specifically High School Musical 2

I think after “RBB” and “Zimzalabim” polarized audiences, especially in Korea, “Umpah Umpah” was the safe choice for this comeback. You’re right though... it’s so standard, it’s almost experimental for RV. 😂

this was honestly a really good song. it’s upbeat, addicting, and refreshing. i loved the notes the vocal line did

I knew they were referencing older songs like "red flavor", "Dumb Dumb" and "ice cream cake" in the song but I just noticed the color of their dresses represents the colored ombre they had during happiness era with Wendy being blue, irene pink etc.. This is random lol

Day 1 was a mix of red & velvet concept Day 2 was a red concept I’m thinking Day 3 will be a velvet concept

Seriously, no ones does ad-libs and harmonies better than Red Velvet. Their songs don't always click for me, but you can bet they always have damn good ad-libs and harmonies and that's why they are queens

RV needed to feed the mass with something they won't hate, hence, Umpah Umpah lol Zimzalabim received a lot of unnecessary hate just because it sounded very different and unusual.

I think this was so conventional that it was actually incredibly refreshing, not just for Red Velvet, but for the current landscape of kpop in general right now. So many groups are going experimental, or hard and dark and what have you, that something like this just feels great for the ears and the mind. Easy 10/10 for me.

I love how the mv, song lyrics and the choreo reference so many previous RV comebacks. It really is the ultimate 5th yr anniversary song, RV looking back on everything they have achieved until now. From having a rap verse consisting of Michael Jackson song titles to having a rap verse name dropping their own previous comebacks, Queen RV have come such a long way😭😭😭 Edit: Even the styling is so referential 😭

This is my fav comeback from the last two years (I'm not saying that I didn't like the others) because it's like a mix of Red Flavor, Power Up and Ice cream Cake 💕 Btw I love the 3 highnotes made by Joy, Wendy and Seulgi. 😍😍 Thank you for reacting~☆

Umpah Umpah is literally one of the best Red Velvet songs(in my opinion), i love how they experiment with many sounds, instruments and vocals risking the final product/song such as Rookie & Zimzalabim but these simple, cute and summer-like songs win my heart too. It's a fact, at least to me, Red Velvet are amazing with every concept. ♡

A conventional kpop song being experimental for a Kpop group from on of the leading kpop companies in Korea *starts hyperventilating* I love that. This actually sounds like it could’ve been a SNSD song or Red Flavor Pt. 2 but either way...I LOVE IT. Red Velvet adds again to the list of bops.

red velvet's summer concepts are always so unique; interviewing fruits, making juice, and now this. many groups r doing summer concepts w stuffs like pool n beach, but this offers a story of a summer holiday ruined by rain storm. rv is forced to stay inside n imagine themselves on the beach, n they finally accept that n make the most out of it. seriously, who ever come up w that story? no one. the whole rv creative team is really like no other. they always have the most unique concepts.

As is known to all，Red Velvet，they always use the brightest smile to shoot the scariest music video. if you have watched any parsing video about this MV you will know it has to do something with Stockholm syndrome. and there are always deep(scary) meannings in their mv which somehow reflect either the dark society or some dark events.... concept girl group Red Velvet lol

I actually shall disagree on the city setting. Claustrophobic seems to be the perfect way to to describe it, and then they go on this vacation to a beach house with deeper sets. It feels like an actual escape from the city. As for the lighting, it may be to show that, in the city, they are people like just any others. At the beach, they are alone/free to be stars... My interpretation, of course. I understand your issue, and can see why it may seem poorly executed.

This video weirdly reminded me of why I got into kpop. The fun and innocent video concept never gets boring for me

Fun part of this song is that it brought alot of elements from their previous songs. That city set reminds me of that from 'dumb dumb' mv. In Yeri&Irene's rap part they mention their songs-자꾸만 '덤덤' 자꾸만 huh? 궁금해 이 '빠빨간만' yeah '행복'이란 가깝지 like 'Ice cream cake'. Not very well shown in the mv, but little parts of this song's choreography are from their previous songs. Even the obvious extention of Wendy resembles her hair style in the 빨간맛 era. Such a pleasant present for RV fans.

I loved this song and MV. In my opinion it feels like the most SM-esque song RV have ever released (a feeling I got earlier this year with NCT 127's Superhuman). I feel like all SM groups end up with at least one song/album that's just unflinchingly bright and energetic with interesting undertones in the production. The chorus especially, but the whole song in general, reminds me of the sound SHINee had on Misconceptions of of You. WenSulJoy's each taking a stab at that one high note reminded me of JongKeyTaeOnew's high notes in the last chorus of Everybody.

I don't know why this song isn't as popular as past title tracks (internationally at least) is really good! I love Red Velvet, they're one of my top groups, and I kinda see what you mean with western productions, actually SM artists tends to be my favourite so I guess I like that type of production and I can't see it here, this is more towards a full K-pop feel and I love it too! Red Velvet always brings amazing music, also the vocal production is always on point, as someone who's learning singing, the point of being in a groups is to harmonize and that's sometimes forgotten in some groups :/ but Red Velvet has a greaaat harmony sense, this song? A bop, the album? 10/10 (as expected)

For me it's experimental since the chorus sound so conservative kpop song and the last chorus sounds super conservative Disney pop song, like high school musical, you know? And I love how they were talking about they past songs and about their history with Yeri being aded later and Seulgi being a loser (sorry ^^' not in a bad way, just.. she's always losing games so..).. Also, it feels like they can choose when it'll be summer, the mv seems like them creating their own summer sensation and that's why everything there seems fake, Seulgi on the roof and feeling like surfing and Irene watching the aquarium and feeling like the ocean.. it's just amazing
