What an epic introduction to Montenegro! Beginning in the gorgeous medieval town of Kotor, we are hiking up the ladder, which is sure to really test us! Over 72 switchbacks, and 900m of elevation, will we make it to the top and back before sunset, or will we be too distracted petting cats along the way?

We are Heather & Ryan, we sold everything to travel full-time! We left San Diego and drove cross country to visit friends and family before leaving the country. Our overseas adventure began when we left for Albania, September 2021! Currently in our second country- Montenegro!

As someone who lives in the old town, I call that hike my "backyard therapy", I don't go through the fortress tho, no need to pay when there's another trail that is free to all. 😅

OMG you actually found the ladder! :))) During the season, they charge nasty 8 euros to hike to the top. The thing is, I later found out that I could get there for free through the alternative route thanx to the ladder. I was there just a month ago, hiking from the Old town center, and on my way down, I wanted to get to that zig-zag trail that was visible from the fortress. Some Canadians showed me the ladder to get to that trail, and told me about the old shepherd selling homemade products by the trail, and making some great coffee, too. So I climbed down the ladder and hiked past the old church ruins , to have a really strong and thick coffee with the best view in my life. I chatted with the shepherd and it turns out he was the one who put the ladder for tourists in spite of the government restriction signs, so he could direct them towards his improvised taverna to earn some money. The homemade cheese was epic!

That is really cool to know about the ladder! When I was at the cheese shop the "shepherd" or whatever he was wasn't very talkative. Everyone there thought he might have been a little tipsy haha

Amazing Ernie video! The entrance to old Kotor was so cool The hike looked tough but I like tough rewarding hikes too

Canon camera, drone, food, and gear,. You guys need a lighter kit for treks like that! LOL! I got tired just thinking about the filming aspect of it. :-) Very beautiful landscape though. Thanks for taking us along!
