I'm from Budapest, Hungary, and i have Rusyn ancestry. Our family name was first listed in a census in the village of Palota, near Medzilaborce. Our name refers to a small village southeast of Lemberg. I read, that Lemberg was founded by Rusyns, and the villages around were inhabited by Poles, however there's no solid evidence to back the second claim. My ancestors spoke Rusyn, and were Greek Catholic. Today in Hungary anyone is free to identify themselves as Rusyn. Also there are some people with the surname "Ruszin" or "Rusznyák" - these are the Hungarian forms.
