Did you know I've made over 800+ other videos on RU-vid? Hit that SUBSCRIBE button and watch another Barnacules Nerdgasm video right after this one! 🍿 I was invited to tour the private collection of the notorious Immortal John Hancock who has 26 complete console collections & thousands of other obscure items including rare games, systems & collectibles. He manages to use every square inch of his garage to house this collection and keep some kind of order so everything has its place and can be easily found. His most prized collection is his SEGA collection which takes up one entire wall of the garage from floor to ceiling.

No it is within reason with respect to "market value" that said the value for games correlates closely to time so old games worth less...that said these are antique games.... The joke plays on the shock we've all experienced when getting an offer from a buyer who wants to retail. second hand is cheap....the "cost" on retailing second hand is "insulting" if one doesn't see the bigger picture. It's a great way to get less for your games....but at the time there was no kijiji, ebay craigs list...so they added a tiny bit of value if you knew no one lol

Last gamer just buys and buys and buys. Dudes annoying because he's just buying without the real passion of collecting like John.
@ItsAlwaysHappyHour
@ItsAlwaysHappyHour 5 лет назад
@@michaelbowen840 Yep, anyone that includes The Immortal in their moniker must be real salt of the earth. Nobody begs quite like John. From Patreon to his RU-vid channel, he asks for donations (monetary and titles). There are many stories of him rejecting or belittling people who send him titles, making them feel like they're worthless to him. I'd also say that LG has been collecting longer. Hancock claims he started collecting in the mid-90s at which time he had about 100 titles. LG has been collecting since the late 80s, including importing Super Famicon and Mega Drive titles directly from Japan.
@ItsAlwaysHappyHour

I feel like we had a VIS briefly when I was growing up. I remember, in the first home I lived in (early - mid 90s), my sister and I would play this Sesame Street video game on something connected to the TV, that wasn't a PS1 or anything. For the longest time, I had no clue what it was, and I've thought about it occasionally over the years.

Well I did see what looks to be like a Commodore 128 and the old 1571 5 1/4 floppy drive. Does he have the good old Commodore 64 with the Commodore 1530 Datasette? Man those we so slow to load a game. Basically it took like 1/2 an hour or longer just to load a game [or find out if it didn't load correctly then you would have to star all over again]. They made piracy of games so easy back then, all you needed was a twin deck tape player and you were set. What I did see that he had a Boss Joystick, Those were great, It made playing "Elite" back in the 80's [the predecessor to Elite Dangerous] so much fun. Ahhh the 80's, they were great times as a kid.

Nice collection. I've been collecting for around 39 years now myself. Early on I made the decision to only collect the games I enjoy to play. I really only collect mint condition, complete games too. I was lucky enough to have bought about 90% of my collection (4,000ish games, 250+ systems) at the time when they were still being sold as new. I feel bad for collectors just starting up now. Especially with Nintendo games. The prices have gone nuts in the past 10 years.

John, you really should have that Stadium Events in a safe deposit box, or at least some sort of water tight/fire resistant safe. As unlikely as it is, bad things happen. Even loose it is worth about 8-10 grand, it would be a huge loss in terms of just collectible rarity, to say nothing of the financial loss. (Cool Megaforce poster BTW)

14:35 - I worked at Spencer Gifts part-time in high school and college from 1981 until 1985. For a very brief period when I worked there (1982-ish, I think?) they actually sold the Odyssey 3000 as well as two other even more obscure consoles, whose names I've long forgotten. It played like an Atari 2600...if you shoved the joystick up your ass. All I remember about it is it had something like a Pac Man clone and something like a Bomberman clone, and that the graphics were all done in this weird shade of purple.

Didn't see it, but does John have any of those old Texas Instruments computers, the TI-99/4A that hooked up to your tv via coaxial? They had cartridges that you slid into a slot on the right hand side? That was my first computer when I was five. It was a hand-me-down from my dad (who worked for Atari) and my uncle (who worked at Texas Instruments). It was a fun system and led to my life as a gamer. I wish I still had my Commodore 64 as well. Great video, great work Barnacules!

My very first system was the N64, I saved forever but one day my mother and grandmother got so tired of me talking about it that they chipped in the last bit just to shut me up! Came ofc with Super Mario 64 and I don't remember if I got Mario Kart later or at the same time but man I played that thing sooo much. Still have it 20ish(?don't quote me?) something years later. Also the PS one (tiny one) it did me sooo good! Destruction derby RAW and Sled Storm. Best gaming memories ever! :)

I actually found a vectrex this past yardsale sale season. I actually got pretty lucky because I was looking for a flea market that was advertised on the internet and me and my friend got lost and ended up in Connecticut we are from Massachusetts so we were about a thousand feet into Connecticut about to turn around and some guys driveway when we realized who is setting up a yard sale. We were the first customers of the day and the gentleman running the yard sale must have been 85 years old so I wasn't going to ask but something inside me told me to explore further. You'd be surprised how much asking helps out because he was not going to put the metric system out that day as he didn't think anybody would want it. So I asked and he went upstairs for about 10 minutes and came back and goes well this is all I have and he showed me with four games and offered to sell it to me for $5 before he could even finish this sentence I had my money out. So I snagged Avec checks with for games not even really realizing what I had in my possession at that point until later when I looked up the price and was floored. So I kept this system for about 3 days before throwing it on Craigslist just to see what I could get so in the end I ended up trading it for an ice blue and 64 console in the Box with Mario 64 boxed as well as Star Fox the big box box and a copy of Conker's Bad Fur Day loose and he also gave me $185 cash. So I feel I did not do too bad whatsoever on that sale. But it just goes to show you how fun yard sale and can really be you never know what you are going to run into out there in the wild. I found this completely by mistake. My other good find was at a local Goodwill down the street from my house. And they had a box of boxed Nintendo games listed at $10 a piece as well as a miracle piano in box for the original Nintendo. So it was $100 price tag on the Miracle piano and $10 a piece on a box of box Nintendo games there was about 25 in the box so I was looking at a $350 purchase which I could not do. So I went up to the lady and figured I would buy a few Nintendo games when I came across a game that had no price sticker on it I asked if this one also $10 and her being new replied to me oh the whole box is $10 not just that one game. So I snagged up the box quicker than you could even blink. Some notable games were a box copy of Mega Man 6 a box copy of gold cart Zelda as well as a box copy of contra and many more. The pricecharting value for this box was about $780 so I went to my local retro game store down the street from my house and sold it to them that day for about $325 and I got to keep the Mega Man the Contra and the Zelda for myself so for $10 I got $325 plus three great box games. So afterwards I went back to the Goodwill the miracle piano was still there and they were doing scratch tickets for my first purchase where you could scratch off and win prizes at the Goodwill. Well I wanted to talk price at day which was 50% off your next purchase so I use that card ended up getting the miracle piano for $50 boxed. So overall I spent $60 and after everything was said and done I had about $275 prophet the Mega Man 6 boxed Zelda boxed and the Contra boxed as well as the miracle piano in box and I only spent $60. So those two events with some of the best in my video game hunting career. Thank you for the constant inspiration John.

Man, I use to use the Wii fit for hours, literally... :( Right now it is just sitting on my floor in my room, I don't even have a Wii in here. I just use it as a board to sit computers on. Dang, you feel old when you think back to the Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis... dang...

Hey barnecules I've got Commodore 64 game disks that are 30 years old that still work like new. One of my favorite systems around. I love all the systems though. IMO they don't make games like they used to. Enjoy the channel and keep it up. Later
