I swear M night Shama lama Ding Dong is only a good DP (director of Photography.) HE messes up writing, editting and directing so often in many of his movies. If it wasn't for his "twist" that has become notorious in his movies, he would be un notable as a director. I swear I hear many people say, Oh I could guess what the twist will be at the end of this movie. But, I never hear anyone say, M night is the next Spielberg or the next Scorsese... And THEY NEVER WILL!
Problems with the characters: Aang isn't cocky-ish and playful. Sokka is super serious and isn't goofy and funny. Katara isn't independent and always needs to be saved. And Zuko is always yelling at Iroh and doesn't show any sort of love or respect to him AT ALL. He was a bit disrespectful in the cartoon but he at least showed some respect and love to Iroh in the cartoon, and tried to reason with Iroh.
nice comment 👍 but with all due respect no hard feelings on this it's iroh with an H it might sound like Iro when said cuz the H sound is nearly unnoticeable
The portrayal of Iroh is garbage too. He doesn’t even look like Iroh and the actor playing Iroh sounds like he’s mocking how the original actor portrays Iroh.
Hey… so I have some bad news for you… aang’s name is pronounced right…. Technically his name is from Chinese and well that is how you pronounce it so….. BUT THE MOVIE STILL SUCKS SO
They have bows in the show. So one good archer can defeat any bender within a seconds. Not to mention Mai's trowing knives or even Sokka's bumerang :') Aaa it is so stupid 😩
That's sadly not even in the top 20 crimes they committed. I personally think that the worst thing was the bending in general, it was simply a disgrace, they ruined the main thing of the series smh
@@calebgoodman3028 Even if the original mispronounce every proper name, "correcting" it in the movie makes the names sound "wrong". It's like parody movies that change the character's names just to be funny, for that, it works. Like a bad parody of Star Trek would use Mr. Spook, instead of Mr. Spock.
@@calebgoodman3028 What 'real life' pronunciation? It's a fictional world, with fictional names. If I were to create a fantasy story about a guy named Steven (pronounced Sty-ven), it wouldn't be wrong, it would be the real way to pronounce that name in the fictional world I created. It's not wrong, just a different culture.
@@jackgreenearth452 The names are based on a mish-mash of Asian cultures: The Fire Nation is based on The Japanese Empire during the Industrial Revolution and World War 2, The Water Tribes are based on the Inuits(Better known as "Eskimos" by inbred Westerners)of Alaska, Russia, the Caucasus(And no, not everybody there is white, my fellow Americans! They share borders with Mongolia, Eastern Siberia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Manchuria, morons!) and indigenous regions of Canada), the Earth Kingdom is inspired by the Qin Dynasty of imperial era China with the Dai Li being based on both Mao`s Red Guard and Deng`s Kuomintang, the Joo Dees are a reference to the controversial practice of 'pleasure women' in Japan and North Korea who are trained to smile, encourage silent loyalty to the repressive regime and Dear Leader and are frequently used as breeding partners for said leader at ages which would be considered scandalously young in the West. Last but not least, the Air Nomads are based on both the Zen Buddhists of India, Bengal, Bangladesh and Tibet and the Shaolin monks of Dengfeng, China.
In conclusion: They messed up each character, ignored every detail, ruined multiple scenes, got multiple races messed up, and destroyed lots of fighting scenes.
Akhil Singh Khyalia the avatar movie on Pandora (NOT this ATROCITY) was great and the original show was also great, but the dump NEEDS TO DIE IN A HOLE (says someone who’s GLAD she never saw the whole thing 🤮)
another important part of the first scene talked about (in my opinion) is that Zuko not only agrees to Aangs terms, but actually follows through. something fairly uncommon for the fire nation, ESPECIALLY Zuko's own family. its immediately foreshadowing that he never really lost his honor, and that he's more honorable than most of the fire nation, making him the perfect choice for next fire lord. also sets the tone that Zukos character really does only care about getting his honor back, not feeding into the war or abusing power. the live adaptation twists that into a person who has no issue threatening to hurt innocent people in a very Azula fashion, and also doesnt care to enforce his end of the deal by not reprimanding the soldier that attacked. both characters suffered for it.
xVibez all the characters are too serious, the show is light hearted many of the characters in the show are goofy and have fun. This shit sucked they were all just so serious
@@lol-mm3pg yeah and they couldn't try to make a better sequel because of very little support and money to work with. They tried to make it a little less childish for it to hit all age ranges. No one supported the movie and that's really sad to me if I were a true fan of something I would support it through and through. But people these days are as loyal as they are clean to me. Sorry. No offense.
I just realized that! God damn it! They make it seem like creating fire is something special in this movie, and it's just so stupid. Firebenders don't even make fire from their chi, they use the heat around them mixed with proper breath control to generate flames. There's a philosophy to it that isn't even inferred in the movie.
when this movie came out my family and I planned a movie day. my parents got us our favorite snacks and we all sat down in the living room to watch it, we were so excited because we all watched the show together multiple times and it was a huge bonding moment for us. Almost as soon as the movie started, we turned it off. As soon as they said aang wrong my dad said “no” and turned it off.
My theory is that it's actually a live action adaptation of the Ember Island play. That's why all the characters seem pretty irredeemable and not true to the characters they're based on. It's Fire Nation propaganda. The bending seems so comical because the actors are nonbenders.
Another weird thing is that Aang struggled with Water-bending at first which is weird because that element’s personality resembles Air’s personality the closest. In the series Aang struggled with Earth the most because it was opposite to his personality.
His body was *supposed* to add to his character (not that the film cares lol). He looks like a big, jolly old man so people (the audience and characters) underestimate him and his abilities, when really he is an extremely powerful bender with unrivaled wisdom.
You should be proud to call yourself a film student. You did an amazing job diving deep into the characters and using movie knowledge for the series and the movie that disrespected the amazing series. You should be very proud.
The crazy thing is that if they'd showed us Zuko's desperation when Aang escapes the ship, him saying "for a moment..." and letting it trail off could have been really powerful. Dev Patel actually delivered that line pretty well.
And the ozai reveal.i.literaly miss it every time cause they revealed ozai too early and he just looks like a chump not the intimidating man that haunted Zukos childhood and wrecks havic on the four nations.
@@carolinedisalvatore9768 If we let this stain go unnoticed, then history will repeat itself my friend. Would you like for another movie like this to be created?
"Avatar: The Last Airbender" is more than a series-it's a journey I've taken multiple times, discovering the enchantment of bending and the essence of friendship in each episode. With every rewatch, I uncover new layers in characters, relationships, and their intricate world. From Aang's self-discovery to Zuko's redemption, I've shared their laughter, tears, and victories. Sokka's wit is a constant joy, and the reunion of Appa and Momo with Aang is a heartwarming moment. The show's perfect blend of humor, action, and heartfelt scenes is truly remarkable. "Avatar" isn't just a show; it's woven into my story, a reminder of balance, resilience, and the power of change. It's not a mere three-time watch; it's an adventure I'll eagerly embark on again and again.
Yeh, like why are all the fire benders not how they were in the show? The water benders are somewhat accurate, air was pretty ok but what was earth and fire about?? I won't assume ethnicities but seriously? They strayed so far from the source material I've given up on any live action anime movies or shows
The waterbenders are Inuit (brown), the earthbenders are (mostly) Chinese, the fire nation is Japanese, and the air nomads are Tibetan (light skin), They fucked everything up
I feel sorry for noah, the kid who played aang, kid was a big fan of the show, a martial artist and even got the nickname aang because of their similarities, but this movie killed his career before it even started
Yeah, i mean his acting wasn't that good but man people should give him a break. He was about 10 years old when he was cast as Aang, he was still under parents supervision, he's not ready to face the criticism he got on the internet whether it's hate or a normal dislike. It's the main reason why i can't even criticize his performance simply because he was way too young to handle such film criticisms like this
@@4deleDaz33m Not wanting to disrespect actors from any movie is why I never criticize performances, and when i do I often make it extremely clear I don’t have anything against the actors (Unless they’re a bad person)
@@TooningIn2008 the thing is I can criticize a performance but in the case of a child performance, it's hard to do it knowing that the actor is a kid and is not old enough to handle such criticism like this. Reminded me of what happened to Jake Lloyd for Star Wars, he got so much hate by fans to the point that it affected his mental health so badly and Lloyd was a kid when he got so much hate for Star Wars. I don't want that to happen with the kid who played Aang too because for the most part, this movie is not his fault
@Paulo Lopes are you out of your mind? We really don't need to have created even a decent movie to see how much of a joke this movie is... The producers messed up HARD. I could create a slide show better that this crap😂😂😂
@Paulo Lopes no no and no some of us are unable to make a movie due to money problems or such but we sure as hell are still able to provide hate towards this movie for being such a crapfest
There are several things o hated about this movie: some of the characters names were said wrong, they weren’t the same from the original series, all episodes were combined in one movie, and they cut out some great characters, such as: Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors, Teo and his mechanist father, Jet, Smellerbee, Longshot, Pipsqueak, The Duke, King Bumi, and worst of all they had a stupid talking dragon spirit that took the place of Ko and Avatar Roku.
Only the multi fan master of loving both atla and lok and the comics could stop it but when we needed him most he disappeared 10 Years later me and my bro found the new multi fan a film director called.....although his comic skills are great he still has a lot to learn before he can make a documentary about how bad the film is. I believe he can save the world
I would like to show a little appreciation to this guy for the work that he put into this video; everything he says is well structured and supported with examples from all over the place. As someone currently failing English literature at school because I can't structure an essay, it is fresh in my mind how hard it is to make such a long yet still well structured essay. Props to you for knowing how to phrase a logical argument.
The Ember Island Players did a much better job than the movie, don't do them dirty like this. A good parody is always better than failing to capture the essence of the characters at all.
Aang: "I don't even smile in that movie!" Sokka and Katara: "Smile? They got our race wrong! Zuko:" They got my race wrong too and I don't even have a scar!" Toph:" You guys are in the movie?"
This movie had to be the most ludicrous and disrespectful adaption ever made. I can't get over the changes to the pronunciations of so many names and things in this movie.
Original cartoon: *Each bending arts are based on different martial* *arts to make it look more sacred* This movie:Haaha wind boy wavy arm make wind go woosh
@@ProcrastinatingPanda Water bending: Tai Chi Fire bending: Northern Shaolin Kung Fu Earth bending: Hung gar Kung Fu Air bending: Bagua ( Circle walking ) Answer me if you want
Bro six months ago, I watched this video and I'm pissed so I rewatched the animated show. And now here I am, I can't even finish your video and watch the show again 😂
This was soo well put together and as a fellow content creator who edits her own videos, the transitions they did were soo basic...even I could do a better job 🤦🏾♀ I throughly enjoyed this!!
“Aang had trouble water bending” it’s like they saw the characters and made their own story arc. There’s that whole episode where katara gets mad cuz he water bended so well, but I guess they never watched it.
don't also forget there is literally an explanation of which bending is hardest for each avatar... its their natural opposite lol. Air benders have a hard time with earth , fire with water so on and so forth.
I love this!! I know it's a couple of years late, but I had many of the same thoughts! Thank you MovieFlame for posting this!! You do all of us Avatar fans proud!!
@@katmossa3503 to be fair he had never acted before and was only cast because of his fighting ability. Should have been a stunt double to another better kid though.
what made avatar so so special is how they capture us with all the emotions and the incredible, detailed and thought-out personalities. I mean it even made us have a deep emotional connection to a bison and a lemur. it's what carried the whole show (apart from the amazing aesthetics and soundtrack) as there is not even one character you can actually truly dislike bc we come to understand their pov's and see how everyone is so fascinating in their own way. that's what's COMPLETELY missing in the movie and just shows what a great job they did on the show.
When they were trying to pronounce Sokka's name, they said a Filipino word instead. Also forgive the mispronunciation because they're Indian and the one who created AtLA are Americans.
Shyamalaian toph: serious oldest in the cast wears fucking big thick velma glasses can see better than the rest of the cast even without said glasses needs a 4 hour dance sequence to lift 1/4th of a half-inch pebble wears anything but her original color scheme has shoes all the time (with soles) is weak and fragile likely is dumb and has comic relief idiot humor in place of her wit, nicknames, and blind girl jokes
I think most of the problems (of which there are many) in this movie are because of Shyamalan. He has an extraordinary level of pride, almost to the level of Walter White. He refuses to work with or hire anyone else to do screenwriting or editing, refuses to listen to criticism and refuses to make any compromises. He even credits himself as Written, Directed and Produced by M. Night Shyamalan, instead of just splicing it into different sections like someone like Christopher Nolan. Even if Michael Bay was in charge if this movie, I’m sure he’d have done better job. Heck, I’m pretty sure I could have done a better job and I don’t know shit about filmmaking.
yeah that is a piece of sh*t because WTF?! (no offense). LIKE SRSLY WHY JUST NOT WATCH THE FRICKING SHOW AND BE ACCURATE INSTEAD OF MAKING IT FROM AN IDIO* MEMORY AND NOW IT'S SH*T!!! BRUH IT'S SO BAD!!! HE'S SO BAD AND SH*T BC IT'S REAL TRASH NOW BC IT IS MADE BY AN IDIO*!!!
I’m convinced that neither Shyamalan nor the rest of the cast, had ever even seen clips of avatar the last Airbender. There’s no way you can fuck it up that bad without really trying, or just being completely ignorant to what the show actually was.
@Weeaboo Trash no they aren't Airbenders are cambodian. His name is Aang a nod to Angkor in Cambodia which also was the inspiration to the air temples.
@@abbysoto7643 You know one of the things I'm most ashamed of? The fact that our teacher had us watch a Percy Jackson movie and that was before I read the books. When I read the books I was like, "Well this is SO much better!" Always read the book before you watch the movie kids
*“Water. Earth. Fire. Air. My grandmother used to tell me stories about the old days, a time of peace when the Avatar kept balance between the Water Tribes, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, and Air Nomads. But that all changed when M. Night Shyamalan attacked.”*
Yeah, did you see how they said it? "Water, Earth, Fire, Air Nomads." REEEEEEEEEEEE SAY THE ENTIRE THING FOR ALL OR JUST DO WATER EARTH FIRE AIR IF YOU"RE GOING TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT "Water. Earth. Fire. Air." "Water Tribes. Earth Kingdom. Fire Nation. Air Nomads."
ElectricityShock Y’know, This is a quote from the actual show, so I thought it would be fun to do this. And I don’t actually care if you think it’s too long. You can hush and keep scrolling if you’d like. It’s only a youtube comment.
The only note I have is they said in the show (the good one and only one I choose to believe exist) the scene where iroh nags zuko about being cold and using his fire breath is insignificant but that’s a huge deal, avatar the show is famous for showing how the characters became what they are or are going to be by showing small things ahead of us learning it. So an example is how we see Azula in the front row smiling in the flashback when iroh tells the crew how zuko got his scar but Azula isn’t introduced till a few episodes later. In this case we see iroh nah zuko about his breath of fire and how it can save his life then in the boil rock we see zuko use this fire breath when he is unbolting the cooler to escape but I love it there’s a lot of small details like this throughout the series
I remember seeing an ad for this movie in a magazine and thinking that it looked great. I never watched the show before, and I never went through with watching the movie after seeing the ad. Thankfully.. Years later i watched the show, and I have absolutely no regrets, and no intention of watching the movie after knowing the show and the movies _reputation.._
Bruh, the scene where there’s like 6 guys “Earth Bending” and all they did was throw a little ass rock flying at like 2 miles per hour 😂😂😂 Hilariously stupid.
If you watch that scene a little bit more carefully, you'll realize the 6 dudes waving their hands around didn't actually bend anything, the one who actually threw that rock was the guy shown after who actually shot the rock at the fire nation soldier
@Ovidiu-Darius Voita well....in the movie firebenders need a source, and it's really special for him to be able to ..do that.........the fact they need a source is quite interesting but...eh....
Im here because of the Netflix Series Version. I think they have watched your review before taping the series action. because some of the things you said here that should be in the adaptation are present and done already.
Everything you said I agree with, Aang being called Ung was the part that grated on my nerves. My thought on this movie, after your review of it... Did the writers, editors, director, or even any of the actors even see the original??? It be like thinking Star Trek, the next generation was a remake of the original. But "sorta" re-using all the original character's names.
This is more retarded than korra struggling with air bending While Korra struggling with air bending is dumb because she's a water bender and the opposite of water is fire, it was in the show and never changed Aang never struggled with water bending since the opposite of air is earth also in the original show he made katara jealous I
Giorno Giovanna in the legend of korra they said that the element that‘s opposite to your PERSONALITY is hardest to learn for them. which is why for aang it was earth and for korra it was air
Auditi saleh No it can be both. Think about it, aang couldnt earthbend because it doesnt aline with his own personality. Earthbending has to do with roughness and brute strength while air is calm and evasive. Korra was very aggressive, excited and always ready which definitely alines with fire but not air as she isn’t the calm and avoiding type.
sokka in the OG is funny, goofy and serious at times, but does not have murderous intentions. the one character who has that trait, jet. jet HATES the fire nation, he was able to go his way to flood an innocent town (who happens to be in the fire nation) to drown. but this sokka in the movie is willing to kill every fire nation. i was like --- who f*ck is this guy, that's not MY Sokka?!?!
That was like my brother's favorite scene in the whole series. I was very disappointed with the whole movie but especially that "MY CABBAGES" was not included
