The last Broadcast of Absolute Radio on Medium Wave. I listened from 20:00 Local time and it seemed that the signal dropped a few times, also they played a track then cut to another. Maybe they were trying to kill time ready for the final message. A sad time as there are getting fewer and fewer radio stations on the MW and LW band.
Station Closed down at 00:01 Local time.

History of 1215KHz/247m in historic date order. 29th July 1945-30th September 1967 - BBC Light Programme 30th July 1967-23rd November 1978 - BBC Radio 1 23rd November 1978-March 1992 - BBC Radio 3 30th April 1993 12:15pm-29th September 2008 - Virgin Radio 29th September 2008-23rd January 2023 - Absolute Radio.. So that medium wave frequency has alot of history attached to it.. A very fond farewell to 247. Gone but never forgotten!

Well done for catching this. Its great to find that somebody put together an entertaining audio history to mark the ninety years of transmissions on 247m / 1215KHz.

Sad, what with one thing and another, it has always been there. If you were in a tight fix you could always rely on something being on the airwaves to listen to. In this part of the world I'm down to one music radio station now, that I can listen to on AM which is smooth radio, I never thought I'd see the day when broadcast radio would be winding down. 😒

Same here the MW and LW band has always just been there, tune around at night and all sorts of stations would come in, particularly from Europe. Hopefully we will get a few more years out of it before it becomes a spectrum of nothingness.

Medium Wave is becoming a desert during daytime here in Merthyr Tydfil no stations broadcasting locally like Smooth etc. Although Radio 5 is ok during daytime on 909Khz we also have BBC Radio Wales 882Khz from Washford. However that is now on reduced power and will probably be switched off within the next few years.

@@driverfilmsshortwavechannel This will probably end during the (work-) day on Monday, no need to turn it off exactly at midnight. I'm not enjoying the new no-music format of Absolute much, but it's still better than Talksport Radio...

Would appreciate if you can investigate thx for uploading as I fell asleep while waiting for the last moments till midnight listening on my Sony pocket srf59.

There is a local transmitter that carried Absolute Radio but not on this frequency. I'll see if I can dig some information on it and the others.

Volume is a bit low on this as I didn't want to wake anyone up in the house!
