Well look at the Warriors record this season? Kerr system is not the key... without Klay and Curry, Kerr system is trash.. draymond can't even try to atleast make the team a playoff contender, and I remember draymond is always compared to LeBron few years ago...what happen?

First off Draymond looked good because of the help around him. Curry just got of injury and d'angelo Russell wasntngood enough to make enough of a difference. Bottom line his offense worked but he needs a team that can compete in the west.

Biggest difference is that they passed up so many three point shots back then. They had the look, but the game was still being played inside out and the value of the shot over long 2's wasn't recognized yet. If you ran that offense now, those shots would be taken much more. I think the most 3 pointers Jordan attempted per game, was 3. If a team attempted 10 three pointers in a game, that was considered a ton.

The triangle offense is so similar to a type of soccer called “tiki-taka”. Triangles are formed between players so the player with the ball always has at least two passing options. It forces the defender have to mark their man tighter and make it harder to press the person with the ball. You should watch some footage of them. Barcelona and Spain perfected this system between 2008-2013

Teo Lolo I fully agree with you. Triangle is the most fundamental yet the most beautiful form on offense both for basketball and soccer. That’s why Steve Kerr suggest that players should get to play soccer while they’re teenager in order to learn how to move without the ball. Totally makes sense.

While in today's game we might see a team like GSW with a lot of ball movement, you don't see in today's game as much ball and player movement as the bulls had. It wasn't just one guy pounding the ball into the ground. While you could get a triple double playing in this system, you're not gonna average one that's for sure. A lot of players in today's game wouldn't want to play in this cuz their stats would go down. Even if it meant more wins.

Triple-doubles have nothing to do with the system or stat chasing, but everything to do with pace... Pace in the 90's and 00's was the slowest, so less points, less assists, less rebounds... Pace in the 60s was the fastest, and shooting percentage the lowest => Oscar Robertson averages a triple double and star centers average mammoth rebounding numbers. Pace in the 2010's goes up and offenses take more threes => more points, more rebounds, more assists => 40 points triple doubles are a thing again !
@Youngster543210
@Youngster543210 2 года назад
@@nicop7926 Nah, pace is very similar to the 80's and there is stkll way more teiple doubles today. The actual reason is, believe it or not, three point shooting. Most of the triple doubles today are coming from gaurds like Westbrook, Harden, Doncic, James, Murray, Simmons etc and wings who handle the ball a lot like Green, Randle, Giannis and Middleton. These type of players have ALWAYS averaged a lot of points and assists, the only difference is that perimeter players are more likely to get rebounds today because so many of them are long due to threepoint shooting (the ball ricochets to the perimeter on 3 point attempts). In 1993, there wasnt a single gaurd on the RPG leaders list until 43rd (Michael Jordan) and only 1 in the top 50. Today there are 7 gaurds in the top 50.

MJ was probably good enough to win maybe 1 or 2 chips by himself eventually, but the triangle stabilized the offense. Most importantly, it stabilized the role players. It's the reason why '88 & '89 Bulls didn't win anything despite having a similar supporting cast to the '91 team. It's the reason why the '98 Lakers didn't win the championship, despite having more talent than the 2000 Lakers team did. It's the same reason why the '13 & '14 Warriors ranked 11th & 12th in offense respectively, until Steve Kerr came in & installed an offensive system. It's the reason why Steve Nash & James Harden haven't won championships. Immense talent on those teams, but faulty offensive system.

Great breakdown. I can only imagine how much more unstoppable MJ would have been in his later years if the Bulls actually had a decent scoring big man like Rick Smits or Even someone like Vlade Divac to play with in the triangle. The triangle is a good offense no matter who runs it, but when you have the likes of MJ Kobe or Shaw running it and being disciplined in it, it’s down right unfair.
@bballbreakdown
@bballbreakdown 4 года назад
That’s what I felt watching a lot of clips of MJ running pinch post as the guard out top. If defender goes under, he’s nailing a 20 footer (would be a 3 today) and if he chases, it’s a dunk

I enjoy those people. Ask them about hand-checking rules and physicality in the lane. When you get blank stares (like I do from the young guys at church), pull up some bad boys videos or the Rambis clothesline. Show them Rodman/Malone in the finals. Ask them what would happen to Steph playing with those rules and against those guys. They'll gain a new understanding. The Warriors might beat the Bulls with today's rules (I doubt it) but absolutely not with the rules of that era. If MJ and Pippen could handcheck, Steph and Klay would not get their shots off in their comfort zones. Everyone thinks Draymond is such a bad boy, but Rodman would out attitude him any day of the week. There's no way the Warriors could play that physically.

Jason Yergler The triangle offense of the bulls was amazing as well. No way the warriors would beat the bulls.
@craigslistreply6544
@craigslistreply6544 4 года назад
The only reason the triangle became extinct was because players today have very low comprehension and attention span. Standing at the 3pt line and letting one man dribble 90% of the possession is easier to comprehend.

Coach, could we get a breakdown of how it helped the ‘99 Bulls win 13 games? 😉 On a serious note, MJ’s discipline running this system, and consistently using it to look for teammates, was extremely impressive. The occasions he went away from it, even during the ‘98 playoffs when he had very little help, were few and far between. Keep up the great content. 🔥
