FFEBRUARY 2050- 12:37 AM 10 years after the nuclear war. in those days, i remembered. I remember our first kiss on the merry go round, we were just kids that summer, but we high off life, laughing against the wind without a clue about the future. When you left, i didnt cry. i just.. stopped being. And somewhere along the road these memories became so hard to forget i sometimes sit by myself and look out the window, at a world that once was beautiful. That merry go round is now beyond the zone of contamination. I last saw it on a hunting party when we were out looking for supplies; the overgrown leaves and branches made it look like a desolate wasteland. But then again, everything beyond the wall is. I write this because my lamp is running out of oil, the nuclear winter has been hard on all of us. The Stoll brothers next door have been quiet and nobodys gone inside their room out of fear at what they might find. Whats crazy about all this is i shouldve just told you i loved you. I shouldve been honest about how i felt about you, and now as the geiger counter goes crazy all i can think about is that latin saying "semper ab meliora" but you were always my northern star, and when i was lost you were what made me better. Its quiet, the only noise is the wind whistling through the silent, dead buildings. I watched everyone I knew die, my parents, my brothers, my best friend. I think I'm the last human, ever. When I die, every hope, dream, blessing and curse will die with me. Everyday I ask quietly to myself "Why me?" I don't have an answer to that question, nor shall I ever, it's pointless now, I may just put myself out of my own misery, I tell myself I won't feel it, but I can never pull the trigger. There are few things that escaped the war, the aliens didn't want to kill us, they wanted to destroy us, sending their attack dogs while they wait up in the upper atmosphere. The stalkers got their name accordingly, stalking humans for days seeing if we wil lead them to larger groups, an affective tactic sense humans tend to stick together. Billions died in the first months, the second months was when the first signs of the sickness started showing, I'm not exactly sure where it came from, there were a handful of people who survived stalker attacks, all of them eventually succumbed to the sickness, spreading it to others and soon billions more died. I survived the sickness, but now I wish it would have taken me. It's been six years since they first attacked, and I'm still alive, surviving off the quiet cities once bustling with people. But I found this notebook, so maybe I might get in the habit of writing down what happens now that humans are almost completely gone, I doubt any humans will find this book, but maybe an alien settler will find this, and if by some chance you can read this, just know that you stole everything from me, and when my time comes like every other human being on this earth I'll go out kicking and screaming. That's all I've got for today, might write some more tomorrow, its late right now and I need sleep. The Survivor
