Vets have an obligation to treat "Animals" under the Veterinary surgeons act. Unfortunately fish aren't included in this and vets are under no obligation whatsoever to prescribe antibiotics for fish. That is the whole issue within this industry and an issue that Paula herself has been fighting for quite some time. The wounds were treated initially with Tamodine on the first Antibiotic injection, after that they was just injected every other day. If you continue treating topically after the first injection, you risk preventing the wound from healing as you disrupt the fresh skin from forming. Aeromonas infections that penetrate into the fish will only be cured by means of Antibiotic, if a wound is healed with other external treatments, then the bacteria hasn't got to the advanced stage and would be a completely different scenario that I have been facing. Unfortunately in my case, it all happened very quickly and the Bacteria became resistant in a very short space of time👍

Unfortunately I am aware of the issues within the industry as I used to be a dealer/retailer. Cefas and other bodies insist on guidelines, rules certificates and all the red tape but actually do nothing for fish. I used to have a good relationship with 2 vets and they used too supply me with both Baytril and Amacicin free in exchange for tropical aquarium supplies for their reception areas. They even used to send key keepers to me for treatment (unofficially). But no, getting supplies now is ridiculous, can't even buy syringes from the chemist anymore. Anyway, good luck.

@@markdickinson3123 thanks, yeah there are vets out there that will prescribe antibiotics, but they are very few and far between. I couldn't find anybody around my area that was remotely interested in prescribing the required drugs even with a report from Paula and the willingness of Paula to speak with them. It's madness

I got Baytril from overseas but couldn't get any other antibiotic. The others I could have used was Amikacin and Gentamicin, couldn't find them anywhere.

@@micheler3011 unfortunately some of the fish had to be Euthanized as alternative treatments were inaccessible. The remaining ones are being closely monitored 👍

What about steroids can that work?

Hi, No I haven't as Virkon is a preventative treatment as opposed to a treatment to cure a bacterial infection that's already well established. I have used CT to lower the bacterial count in the water.

Thanks Andrew, I'm afraid my situation is way past being able to use external chemicals as its in the bloodstream. Once bacteria gets within the body, the ONLY cure is antibiotics. 👍

No point Nipp, the Bacteria is in the bloodstream. Once its in the bloodstream no amount of external medications/treatments will help, hence the need for antibiotics👍

Mon, have you tried soaking some food in the antibiotics and feeding it.?

@@markdickinson3123hi mark, no I haven't, mainly because I've been injecting antibiotic directly into the fish, which if that doesn't work then it's unlikely medicated food would

@@UpNorthKoiPond if you want to save the koi , then remove all dead parts of the fin. If you think it’s not worth saving then it’s your call, best of luck

@@UpNorthKoiPond just get rid of the dead rays Simon it’ll give the fish a better chance of healing. The longer you leave the dead rays on the more it’ll eat into the good tissue. Please don’t get rid of the fish. Hope this explains a bit better. Good luck matey ❤️
