That's a really impressive performance for a gen1+ device. I'm sure those optics would also work well with modern tubes, if one makes a modified housing for them.
i have a soviet gen 1 PN1 handheld nod. I tested it in open space and it's not bad. But recently i tested my gen 1 nod with an IR illuminator but after few seconds the image became blurry. What do you think? Have i broke my nod?
@@hypemilitaria6447 Without ir light the image is quite good, but around normal light sposts the image became blurry. This is strange... this nod uses gen one tube that require ir illuminator. The electrical power of ir illuminator is 2.4 WATTS
No NNVT tubes are milspec unless you mean Chinese milspec. I watched one of chinas military recruiting videos though and it showed their PLA soldiers using digital NVG 10 devices. I don't know why they wouldn't use analog seeing as they have solid gen2 capabilities with some of their tubes even making gen2+ specs.
Not advisable. It may not be illegal since it's no longer active equipment nor is it a restricted article (not a weapon) but it's going to be a tough time explaining that to customs.
Impressive demonstration! Thank you a lot for this neat work. Just one question: did you have the occasion, or would you like, to do a comparison between the famous P8079HP fro EEV and the 1XZ18/7F, both equipped with quite similar optics ? (both tube having quite similar specs in term of sensitivity (same PC material S25, same screen P20, but different gain, and PC/screen dimension/resolution...it is true...)). Best regards.
I have a Russian nzt 22 dual tube and was wondering if I could upgrade the gen 0 tubes it has for a pair of gen 1’s like the sightmark ghost hunter monocular.
Probably, but being Gen 1, I'd imagine they're more prone to damage from lasers and focused beam flashlights due to lack of advanced bright light protection mechanisms. Also, for things like airsoft, I tend to run monoculars to keep my helmet light and to keep my other eye adjusted to the dark.
Hi thank you for your video, I just grabbed a pair of these and they aren’t powering on. I’ve got the AA on one side. I notice the other side unscrews too does anything go there?
Hey there, I've been browsing online for cheap monocular, and stumbled across a unit labeled RG-55, claims to be gen1+, but the performance seems not nearly as great as the type 85. Any idea what kinda tubes it's using?
Yeah, I've tried it before as well and the performance is nowhere near Type 85 levels. It does perform a bit better than the Pulsar Challenger GS gen 1 but that's not really saying much. I'd say save your money and buy a thermal instead. A thermal at that price point will give you much more utility and much more fun
Sheesh, if only these found themselves on the US Market. Would be absolutely amazing for people who’d want to start just for fun! Btw any way to even get another into the US or is it only through that TaoBao sight?
I recall seeing them in civilian devices like the Baigish branded ones. The EP designation does also suggest civvie grade tubes, so don't expect amazing performance from them.
Was it mentioned in the video if these have any type of auto gating? Or will a simple flashlight damage the unit? If these are auto gated, it's a pretty amazing unit.
Unfortunately, these don't have autogating. But according to the tube's online spec sheet (link in description), they do come with rudimentary bright light protection (probably lowering or shutting voltage to the tube if it draws too much current due to high photon flux to the photocathode)
@@MSA-_ Yeah you can tell it's not at critical pinsharp focus, but you can still see the stars. Same when you look out into the distance in moonlight; the leaves on the trees aren't in pinsharp focus, but you can still tell it's there.
Nope. Actually measured it, absolutely no ionizing radiation that's detectable above background. There's really nothing in a NOD that would produce ionizing radiation anyways.
Hello. I was in the market for a type 85 night vision device or any early generations of night vision. I was wondering if you knew anywhere to buy one, or if you would consider selling your type 85. Please let me know. Thank you for your time.
One thing you got wrong was that those gen 1 devices that are being sold on Ebay or Amazon (even the best ones), are barely usable with even a full moon! They are trash, real gen 1 devices such as these are miles ahead of the devices mentioned previously.
I have an OH-1x20 NVG on the way from Ebay and I think it's the Russian version of the type 85. My question is - Are these tubes still able to be sourced? The Russian tubes that are coming with aren't likely to perform as well as yours.
The on-1 (он-1) should be using Ekran-OS EP33 or V8 tubes. These tubes are quite common in cheaper Gen 1 units and should be widely available (ebay had listings up for them from Russia).
Many thanks! Really enjoy making NV content and hope to release more in the future. Recently got a matecam PVS-14 recorder so expect some content on it soon.
Excellent Video Sir, I would truly enjoy speaking with you about some issues I have...And what I could potentially afford to help preserve myself in the coming future given my absurd circumstances.
wow... am blown away by the performance in comparison! I have a few devices using those Ekran EP33 Russian Gen 1 tubes ( Just about every single Gen 1 -1+ civilian device uses some version of thier glass Gen 1 tubes that i have seen at this point! Save for the Gen1+ Armasight SPark CORE I had, it has some sort of UBER High Res Gen 1+ tube, seriously it had 70lp/mm whereas My personal Photonis Gen2+ Xd5 doesnt even quite have as high as that lol.. not sure how they did that?) Those Military Gen1 tubes are amazing!
Hi! This is a license-produced copy of the Delft PG1MS. Apparently, China bought the assembly line and got the technology transfer to produce the unit in the 1980s.
They're now all sold out here in China too unfortunately. If someone breaks theirs, they may put it up for sale for parts. May be worth looking out for that.
Wow buddy that's impressive, I've been trying to look for them online can't seem to find them anywhere, any tips? Also do you think it would be possible to perhaps 3D print a more modern housing for these? Thank you.
Sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately, these surplused Type 85s seem to have all been sold out now. And there are folks who have made dovetail mounts for the Type 85s too but to be honest, these are units that only look right when mounted on a mask.
