I guess you can visit an attraction steam train and be allowed to look into the cockpit, throw some coal in the engine etc. Here in Bulgaria you can

The Septemvri-Dobrinishte route narrow-gauge line as follows the river Mesta until it reaches the Razlog Valley, at the foot of the Pirin Mountain, where it stops at Bansko and finally arrives at its final station Dobrinishte. The major stations through which the train passes are the following: Septemvri - Varara - Dolene - Kostandovo - Velingrad - Tsvetino - Avramovo (This is where the highest railway station on the Balkan Peninsula lies - Station Avramovo, at 1267 m above sea level.) - Yurukovo - Belitsa - Razlog - Bansko - Dobrinishte.
