The last generation of the great Jeep Wranglers are the TJ series. They’re really reliable, and all I’ve had to do was swap out the alternator because apparently the old one had some carbon built up. Then a tune up all because the previous owner abused it

Incredible vehicle. Had 2 YJs. One with the renegade body styling package. When they changed the model around 96 and went back to round headlights they also changed the dashboard to make it look all plasticky and had no style. So for me it's always the older YJ or CJ. They are tougher than the new jeeps also. Heavy on juice but a lovely throaty growl to that engine. Also the half doors look far superior to the full door, the lines flow along the car better and much more fun driving on a nice day

I know exactly what you’re saying! Back in 84 I was stationed in San Diego and bought a new 4Runner for Baja surf trips. Over the years I upgraded (currently have an 03 4Runner) but INSTANTLY loved the ride of a 95 YJ I drove for work for a couple years. The leaf spring ride, road feel and nimble steering brought back the feel of the 80’s tech that I grew up with. When the city that I worked for put up two YJ’s for County auction I was there with $1600 (all I had) in my pocket. Friends told me I’d be able to get one for $500 but the auction was packed and our jeeps were fleet maintained and in great shape. The first one came up early and blew past my measly $1600 bid and sold for $4600. The second finally came up two hours later but alas blew past my bid and I left at that point. It was a sad day, I had driven both jeeps and had a favorite but would have been happy with either as just an off-road and snow toy machine!

I owned a 1988 Jeep Cherokee Laredo. I bought it used for $7000.00. It had 99,000 miles on it. I liked it, but had several problems with it. A front wheel bearing went out, the steering column came loose, and I had to replace the front brake cylinders. I never had any problems with the inline six cylinder engine or the automatic transmission. It was the best snow vehicle I ever owned. I gave to my son when it had 140, 000 miles on it. He put forty thousand more miles on it, before he traded it in. I think he got a thousand dollars credit on trade in value. The headliner was loose and falling down. All in all, I feel like I got my money's worth out of it.

I own a 2003 JEEP Wrangler. It has the 4.0 inline six engine. When I bought it, it was fun until I started noticing it was guzzling gas, slightly underpowered, and parts were starting to fail. My battery burned up and the engine started to act as if it had blown it’s gasket. Well, it was becoming a real money pit and the Chrysler parts were ridiculously expensive. So I went to a friend that’s a mechanic and we pulled the engine, shaved the block, and replaced a bunch of parts with after market parts. Now every mechanic that test drives my JEEP after minor work like tires, always ask me if it’s for sale. It has more power, gets great gas mileage, and hasn’t given me a problem since the work was completed. Even my daughter has warned me that when I buy something else, she owns the JEEP!

Saw the square headlamps and knew immediately it was from the 1980s... they are very distinctive. Of course he said 89 immediately at the start of the video.

I had 2.5 four cylinder manual hardtop (no AC) while in university. All I liked about it was it’s off road capability (Lots of fun off roading). Had it for about two years then sold it. Could not stand it’s exceptionally bad gas mileage.

I sadly had to sell my 79 CJ7.. (5 litre 3 speed auto - Renegade)..last of the greats...sadly being in Spain meant lack of access to spares, road test Centre’s who hated me and parking bays meant for cars 1/3rd the size...i’ll miss her.. modern cars just have no soul compared to the old classics 🙁

Holy cow, 112 horsepower AND 14 mpg! I owned a 1982 Jeep in Hawaii and it had a 6 cylinder 5 speed drivetrain with 32" tires and 2" lift and it averaged 15 mpg...but it was cool to drive to the beach and back.

Did ya ever drive it around Kaena Point? You used to be able to do it when I was stationed there. It was pretty scary back then in my friend's Samurai. I heard that it's long since been eroded away and closed off.

@@rayjay8322 Ray, just drove out there from the North Shore side back in Agust 2017...no problem. You have to pay DLR an annual fee to get the combination to the lock on the gate at the end of Farrington highway. It's not eroded either, lots of trails and you definitely need a good lifted 4×4 to get out and back safely. Spotted a sleeping monk seal too.

I really miss my '86 AMC XJ with a 2.7L V6 GM. Got rid of it with ~300K miles w/only 1 engine rebuild. 20+ mpg constant until the end with VariJet Carb. Replaced it with an '02 Libby (DaimlerB-Dakar) 3.7L, which may make it to higher tot. miles ... and w/22 mpg av.

Scotty’s gonna hate me but......... I sold my 1990 Toyota Camry that I purchased new to buy a ‘92 Jeep Wrangler. I was bored with the Camry. The Jeep(Spanish pronunciation “Heap”) threw a rod at 6,000 miles. Broke a rear yoke after every oil change so I sold it at 30,000 miles and bought a Honda Civic hatchback.

Nice Wrangler. Some of the Jeeps with the 4.2 and automatic had Full time 4wd. That might be why his gas mileage is so low. One of my brothers had a 79 CJ-7 Golden Eagle with the 4.2 automatic and it was full time 4wd. I am only guessing due to seeing the interior more closely. That is my thought.
