The Last of Us is brought to us by Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin and the game's original creator Neil Druckmann. The series stars Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. This whole premise gives me shivers. We didn't have antifungal medications in 1968 but we do now. I've actually had a fungal lung infection and I got it from breathing in air with spores in it. That's why it gives me the shivers. It makes me wonder what would have happened if my doctor hadn't realized that my lung infection was fungal.

I cried through half this episode and held my breath for the rest. I feel like they did an amazing job of choosing where to one-for-one, where to trim, and especially where to expand. It was incredible, I'm so excited for the next episode.

Also fun fact that they got the voice actors for the male and female clickers to reprise their roles here. From the outside it seems like a small thing but it really shows they took everything to account when making this show.

I'm glad they changed a few things, as a game fan it kept me more intrigued and didn't feel like I was just watching a straight 1:1. Like the whole sarah prologue during the day was nice and the way the whole robert, marlene, joel, tess conflict played out was very different but still ends up getting to the same point in the story. I like changes like that, it keeps me guessing even if I know what the end result will eventually be.

Man, they did a great job in the 1st episode. I had so much anxiety as it happened and they managed to surprise me on how they expanded the story while keeping faithful to the original. I must also say after watching X's death like 10 years ago, and another time when it got remastered I still couldn't bare to watch this scene in live action.

What’s scary is that the intro monologue is correct. The hotter it continues to get, and the more Ice that melts that were withholding these ancient viruses. Are going to get out, though he was talking about evolution. It’s still a scary thought that this is the exact direction we’re heading because of global warming. We don’t know what will happen

Going in, I had seen a glimpse of the 1968 interview in a featurette that HBO had released. I was concerned about the inclusion of something that explained the fungus' origins too much. But I was wrong to worry. That little prologue REALLY sets the tone. The scene subtly builds so much dread. Hammers home the seriousness of the cordyceps pandemic. It effectively sets the stage for what's to come, without feeling like hackneyed exposition.

Even though we know what happen to the little boy after the soldiers tested him, I really appreciate how they executed the scene, where we only see the faces of just the female soldier and the little boy. She’s ensuring the little boy that he’ll be alright, holding his hand, telling him that they’re just giving him “medicine,” and that he’s safe. It sort of humanizes the Federa soldiers a little bit. Sure you could say that they’re just doing their job, but she was giving the boy a sense of peace and security during his last moment. Better than just killing him with him feeling fear in his last moment, or leaving him to slowly suffer from the fungus taking over.

Lot of people missed it, but at the end during the lightning flashes showing the skyscrapers, you can clearly see a Clicker moving around and shrieking out on the rooftop on the left side of the screen.

The intro to this show is done so well. The nativity of everyone apart from John Hannah's character is portrayed perfectly. Laughing it off like it's no big deal whereas global warming, climate change, virus', the pandemic as we know is very real. Even Cordyceps is a real thing granted it only works on insects but still. What a phenomenal start to this show. I was worried when it was announced as most of us know, game adaptations into live action never usually work out but I'm pleasantly surprised by this. As a lover of both games, I am completely invested and can't wait to see what changes are made!

Apparently the soldier who shoots at the end of the Austin sequence is a cameo, played by Craig Mazin himself. Some very meta, poignant stuff, in my opinion. As writers, sometimes we must kill our darlings.

@@BrokenNoah - Anna Torv and Carrie Coon could be twins. Their voices, faces and mannerisms are eerily similar. When I saw Carrie in THE LEFTOVERS, I thought I was watching Anna and when I saw Anna in MINDHUNTER, I thought I was watching Carrie. It's really odd, because Anna portrayed Olivia Dunham in FRINGE, which is one of my favorite TV series ever., so it's odd to me that even I mix them up.

I haven’t played the game and had very limited knowledge as to what the show was about. I thought your review did a great job at explaining some things while while leaving some to be explored later. Thank you for that, it did help me put some pieces into place that I knew were important without knowing why. That was better than I expected they did a good job. This should be an easy adaptation to execute there's no character that has insane abilities or anything crazy like that. The story is easy to understand and the characters are already well written too.

I absolutely loved the opening scene and animation. The comparisons to our real life circumstances were chilling. Did you know apparently a slime fungus in Japan was used to recreate the Tokyo subway system. For me seeing that opening animation was cool on many levels.

After Watching the first episode of HBO's The Last of Us last night... *WOW!! HOLY. JESUS!!* The first 30 or so minutes had me on the edge of my FUCKING SEAT!!! And there's one scene in particular (if ya'll know what I'm talking about) which ik happens in the very early hours of the game that actually got me crying on the inside whilst also shedding a single tear. The rest of the episode, pretty good. Pedro Killed it as Joel and Bella, she's got a good hit on me as ellie althought it might take a while for her to convince some people and... the rest ya'll have to watch for yourself. I knew the events that happen in the game after watching the playthroughs yet THIS FELT LIKE MY FIRST FUCKING TIME WATCHING IT!!!

Removing the spores causes a bigger plot hole in my opinion. It renders the phase where the corpse settles down against the wall and spread outwards useless as there is no way for the fungus to infect anyone from there without releasing the spores.

People don’t realize that not only does. Joel lose his daughter, but he had two chances to not let this happen. If he stayed with Tommy, they would’ve had a gun If he attacked this guy when he was on the radio and had the gun pointing down, he probably could’ve done something Losing your daughter is one thing Being responsible for it happening is completely too much

The girl who would be infected brought me a double flashback to The Walking Dead. Firstly, she looked like Lizzie and secondly, she reminded me of Sophia when she stepped out of the barn. I think the similar clothing and camera work caused that in me. I think that was intentional and a subliminal reference to the walking dead. I played part 1 and 2 4 times each and I had no problems to get along with all the cast characters immediately. And I was really skeptical. This series is going to be great.

Bella as ellie was a slow burner.. (i loved her from her first scene tbh) but by end of this series.. only bella could act ellie... It was a powerhouse performance..cant wait to watch this reaction through the eps..
