I am old and understand how they felt. Who wouldn't want to go out on their own terms and in the arms of someone you love. And their life and their home became a place to help others survive. I was so glad that Fedra or the infected didn't kill them. They checked out in style.

I can’t believe that I am saying this: Best episode so far. I loved that the creators changed it too this. Fantastic. Both parts, the Joel and Ellie conversations are soo good, and the Bill and Frank part surprised me.

Hey Kev, this "Bill & Frank" while staying with what happened in the game is a departure. In the game, we never meet Frank just Bill after Frank's story ends. This retelling is a beautiful story about love in all it's forms. All of us in this house very much enjoyed this episode. We got a good picture of who Bill & Frank were but from a different angle. Great Reaction!

It basically flips the lesson from a cautionary tale of what'll happen to Joel if he stays closed off to a hopeful one of who he can become. Honestly, for the game, I prefer the game story, but I prefer the adaption when it comes to TV. They're actually succeeding in knowing when to change things to make it better television, which is a tight rope most game adaptions fail at. It helps that the game is basically a movie itself, but I hope the people working on the Horizon series, Fallout series, and God of War are taking notes. Their shows can't just copy/paste action scenes, and creating character and arcs that you care about is vital.

In the game Bill is pissed with Frank because he left. Frank also seems to have had enough with Bill which could be the reason he left without Bill knowing. You get all this info from letters written which you could find when looting. Towards the end of the section while searching for a battery for Bill’s pickup truck you find Frank hung in the garage with another note. Frank says he left cause he was infected and Bill basically a grumpy pissed off man finds some peace knowing that Frank didn’t leave simply cause he hated him but because he was infected. This version of the story was beautiful and my favorite part of the game has become my favorite part of the show even with the changes. Edit: Another great reaction. Hope my comment isn’t a spoiler for you and my apologies if so. Will be more careful in the future.

The Nature of Daylight by Max Richter is played in Shutter Island, Arrival, an episode of The Handmaid's Tale - and where main actor Elizabeth Moss via The Handmaid's Tale is also in the music video of the song itself on Richter's music page on YT, and it plays for TLOU for Bill & Frank.

The extra at the end of the episode explains the roles of Bill and Frank in the source material. It’s worth a view. It was great to suddenly have this serious and dramatic love story in the middle of all this. Bill and Frank’s story intersects with the main characters, of course. But it also spans the general narrative from infection to the present, providing detailed snapshots of quotidian life during that period, contributing to the building of this world we’ve been immersed in and learning about. And it’s also just a really nice love story, complete with a beginning, middle, and end. The episode really adds to the artistic gravitas of the series. A+

There are going to be trolls who hate this episode. Eff them. This builds Joel's character. How a troll might ask? Bill is built up to a point where he reiterates the message Tess gave Joel before she was taken. Save who you can... This episode is a deep character dive and it shows Bill's evolution... How does this reflect on Joel? Tess, Bill and Frank are shown to be his only 'friends'... What do they say? His friends end with save who you can... This builds up the end of the game... Exponentially I feel. Save who you can... At what cost? I can't wait for that moment. ... As an addendum.... Who's the girl? Bill didn't have one. Joel does have one now and then song replays in the truck. There are levels to this. O M G

Loved this episode. I watched it last night as soon as it came on. I found it a very emotional episode which was great. In watching your reaction I noticed that the song on the piano was the same Linda Ronstadt song "Long, Long Time" that they put on at the end. I missed that the first time. It's a pretty sad song and fits perfectly for the theme this week. I wonder if choosing that song had anything to do with Ms. Ronstadt also having a degenerative disease and doesn't sing anymore. In any case, can't wait to see the next show. Peace.

Brb, gonna go dig a hole and hope a Frank falls in it. Also, think the only part of this episode I didn't love was that Bill was just standing out in the street during the shootout. You can't tell me a survivalist like Bill wouldn't have a perfect sniper perch figured out. Otherwise, a surprisingly beautiful love story in a bleak world.

I saw his lapse in judgement is similar to many men who will get into a bar fight even if they could avoid it because they feel their "girl" is threatened. They could walk away if they used logic , but they don't because their fear of loss overrides their logic.

That scene happened right after he told Frank he wasn't afraid until Frank came into his life. That was him being irrational in his actions because he just wanted to protect Frank no matter what.

The thing about this episode… and what so many films and cinema fails to portray… is true love and companionship. I’m a “man’s man,” so to speak. This makes me cry. Not any of these rom-coms or any of those. This. It’s real.

Great episode, great reaction! I was surprised you were SO nervous that Frank was going to hurt him. But the hell of that world I got it, after two episodes of "something horrible is going to happen", this is like a palette cleanser of hope. This is why I stopped watching The Walking Dead, cause it became just a cyclical parade of misery with no light or love in it. Last of Us is, blissfully, much more nuanced than that. Bill & Frank in the TV version basically won the apocalypse. They had a life, they had peace (mostly), they had love, and they went out peacefully on their own terms. This section is TOTALLY different from the game. The Bill you see right after the outbreak, the paranoid survivalist who is happy everyone is gone, is the Bill from the game. That's how he is when Joel & Ellie arrive. However, despite being totally opposite of the game by the end, they strangely enough they serve basically the same purpose. In the game Bill's crazy survivalist nut is a cautionary warning for what Joel could become himself if survival is all he has left, and he has no one to protect or care for like he did with Tess for all those years. In the show, Bill is an example for Joel on the side of light. How survival is NOT enough by itself, a man like that needs someone to care for, someone to protect, or what really is the point of it at all? As the Captain of the Axiom said on Wall:E: "I don't want to just survive... I want to LIVE!!!" And in the end we get to the same place. The only FUNCTIONAL part of Bill's town in the game is: need a truck that works so we can get to Tommy. And we end up there anyway but the journey on the way is SO emotionally powerful. It's like they watched the first ten minutes of Pixar's "Up" and went "Hold my beer." By far the most dramatic departure from the game thus far, almost totally different, and yet as someone who has played the game clear through 4 or 5 times, I loved it. The sassy banter between Bill and Ellie is something I do miss, but what we got instead was worth it in spades. See you next week! :D

Some criticism of this episode are that only one group of raiders in 20 years. Well no I think they did that to show us that there were in fact raiders. They only have a little over one hour to tell a story and raiders were not that important to this story. Of course there were more raiders I think they just left it for us to interpret. Of course some people are petty and knit-pick things just to stir up things 😂 With all that said 10/10 episode

It's pretty much the same as having lunch scene or having dinner scene...they don't need to show us how many times they have done that in 20 years, they only showed the event that matters and to convey that it happened. Just like the raiders scene or infected scene...there were probably several stray infected, but as Joel said, the fence can hold the infected so they're not a problem...then about the raider, perhaps there were some group of raiders/individual that tried and failed but aren't significant enough to be shown over and over again and they only showed the one where it was significant, which was Bill got shot.

@@SofaandChill I think it's important to be entertaining to the viewers with rather animated facial expressions and body language. Some reactors only sit there and watch barely doing anything than make comments. 😂 I dont know if you've seen that movie "YOU'RE NEXT" (2013). Most say it was the best horror/slasher film to come out of 2013. And I agree. It's about a family reunion when they were attacked by 3 strangers wearing animal masks. The plot twist right before the end is crazy. 👍👍

Agreed. It's okay, but let's be honest...there's only 1 reason people love it THAT much. Felt forced to me. They REALLY Jammed this series full of ridiculous diversity to the point of being unrealistic. I still love the show but it's a bit much.

Not a great episode for me. If you didnt watch you dont miss anything other than how they got the truck. They also skipped some of the most important parts of the game for this back story which we didnt need.
