Crazy concept for a video: what would Rick Grimes do if he was in Joel’s shoes? I feel like Rick is more of a “hero” than Joel, but I could 1000% see him slaughtering that hospital if some doctor wanted to sacrifice Carl for a cure
This episode was very good! The museum sequence kept me on edge, it was nice seeing Ellie get more character development. And the scene where Joel looks at his watch, I felt that 🥹 And I like how Tess’ death was more dramatic and managed to make me feel misty eyed
I liked the change. With having a horde attack the Capitol Building instead of Fedra, but I think they ruined Tess' death. With the Hive Mind thing explained clearly in the show, it was obvious that they would recognise that she was infected. The whole... Tendrilly Makeout Session seemed weirdly unnecessary to me, and kind of ruined her sacrifice.
@@HarakMolova Yea the making out part was kinda weird lol I was expecting the horde to topple ontop of her trying to rip her to shreds as she tries to light the oil on the floor.
My logic prevented to not notice how killing the only one who is immune doesn't make sense. It never did for me playing the game. Not to mention the possibility she can pass her immunity to future generations by reproduction.
When the episode ended I was like ohh no, now i have wait for a whole week. I wanted to keep watching. I played the game to death. No what is coming but I really like the shows take on it.
i hope every episode does begin with a glimpse of life before / during the onset of the outbreak, it really makes the whole tragedy of it sink in. so far the changes that they've made fit right in. i'm pretty optimistic about the show and it's living up to the hype so far. loving these reviews :)
The clickers were executed perfectly! And I love how they’ve made some changes from the game whilst still mostly to the source material; it makes it fresh for even those that have played the game countless times!
Idk why but it kinda shocked me how fast Joel left Tess in the end, I was expecting at least some last words from Joel to show any kind of care or love, but the way he just started to run away with no hesitation was interesting
Something switched in his head at that point when Tess said "save who you can save." The way he so aggressively dragged Ellie along was brutal. Looks like we're really gonna be diving deep in Joel's psyche.
His instincts kicked in, it was a fight or flight moment with the infected about to barge in at any moment. Protecting Ellie was the only thing he could do.
My bet is that Ellie's mother was bitten just before giving birth to her. That's why she's probably immune. They will probably cover the comic as well but they still don't confirm why or how Ellie's mother died, nor her letter in the game But in Ep 1, Ellie asked Marlene if she's her mother... does that mean Ellie doesn't have her mom's letter? Because she basically says in the letter that she is going to die
I love how much the show doubles down on Joel's characterization. It's tough because the first game was so freaking good that I think people mistake his heroism and how good that game is. Joel doesn't want to be a hero. He wants to minimize loss. He wants to stay detached. He gives himself a hairline fracture in his hand because he'd rather pummel his trauma to a bloody pulp than face it. He just wants to live simply as it means he can't lose anyone else. What makes it hyper tragic in Part 2 is that he starts to think of other people and build attachments and his life before comes into contact with who he WANTS to be. He wants to save as many people as possible since, well, he kinda doomed humanity potentially. So yeah....I kinda love how much they make us low key dislike Joel. He wants to kill Ellie right off the bat. He wants to abandon her for the fucking battery. It takes Tess being like "no, we get everything we need if we follow through". He isn't a morally driven hero. He's a man trying to survive.
it's weird how that's how he has been like that in the game and yet we love him so much. Hell, he literally destroys humanity's last hope in the game and yet somehow we still love him???? like damn, the game is literally supposed to be bad ending, but it feels good! I've been loving the show so far, and i just HOPE it can continue being awesome while also make us feel good like the game did
Damn I never really recognized how unheroic Joel was in the games until this show. I guess that’s because we are in control of Joel in the games and we subconsciously knew it was for survival. Now that we have no control we can actually sit back and see it from another angle
@@brandonburton5928 This is an objectively worst version of Joel what makes him the character that he is, is the fact that he's borderline an unlikeable asshole macho man. Him being this melowed out survivor isn't like him at all, he's stone cold prior to meeting Ellie, not just "someone surviving man". Suck my dick retard
The ones that are "connected" are physically connected, that's the hive mind, fungi tend to do that irl, just grow in massive scale underground, and in the series the infected that are doing nothing have their fungus grow out and connect with the underground one if it's possible The clickers aren't connected so that's why the horde didn't came While the one in the end was physically connected
5:20 I agree that Joel is definitely cut off from any potential emotional attachment, but the way I saw this scene was that Tess turned him around, even signaling him by touching his boot, to prevent him from seeing her swollen eye for a little longer to deal with it in the morning instead. That’s how I saw it & it still plays as one of those little details that’s making this series great so far
I really love how the show balances additional content and the scenes from the game, I already love it so much. Your analysis and reviews are always amazing man
The show is getting so good that is has the potential to make the game feel obsolete with the changes the show is making that make the story and world even better
I wouldn't be too sure that it's going to make it obsolete in any way, there are things that you just can't replicate from one medium to another and that are going to stay in the video game
I'm really looking forward to the next episode where we see Bill and Frank. Bill and his town is an aspect I really liked in the game and I can't wait to see more of it
So far I'm liking everything about the episodes I love that we are getting more insight into the pre Apocalypse a lot more than we did in the game so we are definitely getting something new and fresh and very fascinating I also really loved the attention to detail and how they didn't try to force Ellie to talk about her sexual preference we all know from the games that she's either gay or bisexual but in this episode when Tess asks if she has a boyfriend She just simply says no in a sort of awkward way. That feels so much like how ellie would respond to such a question. Whe wouldn't just openly talk about it and there was a million different ways rhe writers could've made her respond to that and q lot of tbem would've felt forced or cringy like im glad she didn't say nah I am Lesbian 9r something. They kept it subtle and dropped the subject after. This show is just getting better and better and I am so happy with how ellie is being portrayed. Bella is doing a fantastic job with the character and really making it her own while keeping it true to the source material. I can easily see debates coming later down the line where we are all arguing over which ellie is better, show ellie or game ellie. Lol so far I gotta admit I am digging show ellie even more than the original which just speaks to how great of an actor she is
I had rlly low expectations for this show when it was firstly announced (especially cuz I've played and seen the game like a hundred times), but after watching only these 2 episodes I must say I'm hooked. I love the attention to detail and the tiny adjustments to the story and I rlly hope that the quality stays the same for the rest of em, can't wait for next week
They changed a lot of shit in the show Which most fans (including me) dislike In the games the infection was more realistic, it spread with spores (without this kissing tendril hive mind crap)
Even as someone who has played the first game multiple times this show has kept me on the edge of my seat even though I know what is going to go on the changes they have made in my eyes are great and only improve the show
Definitely agree with you on that. I have a feeling, these flashback scenes, if we gets one for each episode, the overall theme of it, they aren't going to be about the origin of patient zero. Rather than it being about the mystery of the origin of patient zero, I think it will more about the potential of the vaccine, if there exist such, and what it could means for different groups of people. Weather it be a government entity, or a private organization, or the humanity itself. Indirectly, they want to keep telling us how important Ellie is, in the grand scheme of things, and weather or not it will justify what Joel ultimately ends up doing, albeit he will do it for his own reason.
I love the changes they made to the infected.. it makes them deadlier than in the game. If they kill 1, they cant stay there and rest, they have to keep moving otherwise they meet the mob. I also love how they emphasized that the clickers are very hard to kill. It took a whole mag of 9mm to down one and an axe and 2 well aimed shots in the head with an AR. I guess 1 shiv wont kill them instantly this time around.
on the good side, that would make dealing with clickers VERY SCARY AND INTENSE on the bad side, that would mean we get less action scenes like in the game we can't really have both, but atleast it will make things interesting
@@janbertguerrero6988well tbh with you.. id say that a good thing then. better less actions scenes and more horror. This isnt like the game where joel can just respawn if he dies… He cant just go John Wick on these infected. What im trying to say is.. as much as I love the game, not everything can be translated from the game into a show… the action bits is one of them, joel cant go into listening mode to scout enemies, he doesnt go to crafting menu mid combat and he cant one shot a clicker with a shiv.
I like how Joel already knows about how the firefly are trying to find a cure and is already against it like he has already heard this many times before. I dont think he was this aware of what they were doing in the game.
Tess says "if you step in a patch of cordyceps it can alert a hord a mile away" when Joel shoots the runner at the end and its hand lands in the cordyceps you can see a tendril start to wrap around its fingers and then cuts to the hord thats outside on the street and you see a tendril come out and start to wrap around its finger before they all get up and start running to the state building.
It was such a GREAT episode! I liked the changes and didn't initially like that weird kiss at the end but I read about why they did that and it actually makes some sense. They were trying to being the point across that they aren't violent creatures all the time. If you notice she didn't struggle or run or try to push him away she just stood there and let it happen which was so tense I was about to fall out of my seat. So it was just some weird choice to make the zombie kiss the hot infected lady, which is what I was thinking as it happened. Anyway I can't wait for Sunday nights again now that there isn't any TWD for a minute.
While I doubt that is where the show is going because I believe that the "theres no vaccine" line is more about how ellie is special and the key to the cure, I really hope they don't try to justify Joel's actions because it would completely remove all the nuance and complexity from the ending and I would HATE it. It would go from "Surrogate father dooms humanity to save his surrogate daughter which is really shitty but we all would've done the same" to "surrogate father saves surrogate daughter from bad people".
@@thethriftytypewriter it baffles me the mental gymnastics people have to do to justify Joel’s actions.. which is mostly why people dislike the second game so much
@@jfells4838 With all the evidence to the contrary, people who view it as op are the ones who have to do insane mental gymnastics to justify their wrong take.
That wouldn't be so bad, except that it immediately follows David in the Winter months. I don't think it's justifiable from a storytelling perspective honestly
The Cordyceps in the show remind me of the Las Plagas/Majini from Resident Evil. Hive mind, Tendrils coming out the mouth and injecting it down the victims throat to turn them.
@@JohnWayneGuan Makes sense doesn’t it? Or there’s a HELL LOT OF those hives down there, first infecteds after all including 20 years and counted down there
I think it can be both; Joel saving ellie from certain death because of selfish reason and also the fireflies don't actually know how to cure it. Jerry Anderson has a lot of his own flaws as a scientist/doctor.
There is no t.v, newspaper, or telephone. If they could make a cure it would be for them. Joel and Ellie went through hell and high water to get there. So who will get the cure. Also most importantly Joel learned to love again and thought like a father.
I love the scenes that provide insight on how and why the outbreak happened. While the game could deliver this lord with notes and letters you could find throughout it, the show can’t do that. So they decided to add this instead and it works so well.😊
This doesn’t really have anything to do with tlou but I think it would be interesting to see some character analysis videos on twd telltale characters if you’ve played the games and if you haven’t played them I highly recommend you do
Joel didn’t turn away from Tess. He was passed out. They had a relationship more than friends obviously but Joel was just emotionally unavailable so he wasn’t able to share his feelings for her. Druckmann has confirmed that Ellie indeed is the key to a cure/vaccine. The story would make no sense if she wasn’t. Her being the cure is what makes Joel saving her mean something at the end.
I think the Actress that played Tess, is absolutely beautiful! The way they did the swollen eye from the 'Beating' was So Realistic! I fall more in love with her each time I see her! She combines Beauty & Strength better than the Game Character!
I honestly hope that the show becomes it’s own thing. Pedro Pascal giving us his own version of Joel the other girl being her own version of Ellie. To me it still feels like “hey look this is from the game”. It’s like the original game overshadows the show. But I’m excited I’m super hopeful and optimistic. I can’t wait to see what happens!
I am watching The WALING DEAD Season 6, Episode 13. It's such a great Episode. If not for you and your Videos, I would have never watched This great Show. (Sure it has its flaws here and there....but man). I hope you have seen Babylon 5 and Generation Kill.
watching the gameplay really got me out of on-rail narrative games, because as Joel, I didn't have a real choice to let the Fireflies do what they claimed.
I don't know, so.. I am a fan of the show, I love the game, finished the walkthrough of 1 and 2 also I love the cast and I believe Bella as Ellie is perfect but. Her acting in this show is a bit inconsistent. We all know kow what Ellie character exactly is but how Bella portrayed her in this series is still a blur for me. Also on Joel, Pedro portrayed him as this kinda soft, cracking a joke a long the way dad attitude kind of vibe which I don't think will help for future Joel, and he don't know how to shoot for the head like "?" Yes you are right like it brings a thrill because we kind of get scared with them, but what is the reason for a 20 year jump? Did they grow old and learn nothing? Not even the "shoot for the head thing" I know they they have the choice not to copy the actual game but they showed Joel on the first ep who will do whatever it takes to survive, like he doesn't feel warmth and doesn't get scared easily cuz he kind of see it all been through it all, the show is showing us that he is cold AF silent killer badass kinda of shlt and all of a sudden he became this guy on a second ep? the inconsistency is frustrating. This second episode doesn't really give it to me. I like the character of Tess she's one of my fav but when she dies I'm like "meh" ok, it's not just that maybe I'm just prepared for her to die cuz I know it will happen but, it's not that. Her screen time is enough but I don't think they want us to care about her but the series really screams that we supposed to. I don't think if it's the directing or how the scene just played out, but it is not working. the water hotel scene which is an amazing set up design is also a meh scene, because we see Ellie acting like a child cuz she is but I don't think to the point that she would aggressively just ring the bell, knowing they are in the open area (that's just dumb). So yeah ep 2 is not a good episode I think we should be honest about it. The opening scene tho is good. I think if they killed off test on the 3rd ep, maybe I can understand why Ellie cried for her. I just hope the rest of the episode is good.
I love your takes since the walking Dead, and I really enjoy the comparisons to the game. However, I never played the game, so although I enjoy the comparisons as a gamer myself, try not to talk too much about what happens later on in the game when we are not there yet in the show or I can't keep watching, SPOILER FREE!
she is protecting her, that in itself makes her a hero... no i would not sacrifice anyone dear to me even if it could save the world and that a big if, what makes joel likeble is because people can relate... nobody is perfect as captain america and all of these fake heroes
I will never like the last of us, but here I am. If you want to know the reason why I hate it, its because of Ellie. I'm not talking about the actress who plays her in the show, but in the game, I just hate her. She becomes a really bad person as a adult.
you say it as if she was alone in the mall that a boyfriend would not come after her how does that make sence my man? i hope she is not a lesbian in the future like in the game sems arteficial. i dont mind gay and lesbians but there are to many encounters of them in tv shows games movies ect these days
Manux x The thing is there really isn’t a problem with part 2, some people just can’t handle it. For them, I recommend kid cartoons and fairy tales, nobody dies in those.
@@juancarlosalonso5664 idk i found it boring personnally, like the game wanted you to feel things but totally failed in his execution (+brutal death in others stories are no pb, i dont think it was in this one too) And by "problem" i mean that it alienated half of the playerbase that cared about the universe and characters
@@manuxx3543 you know your game design is a failure when you're actively hoping for the NPC to kill you. And that's exactly what everyone felt when we played as Abby in the theatre. Just one of many problems that game had. One of the most polished and technologically impressive games I've ever played, just a shame the story was mishandled so badly
