When the trap kills the one infected, Bill says "never gets old", indicating he's been dealing with lots of infected the whole time.

Plus he had the scanner so he's most likely either been out of town and encountered Fedra soldiers in the wild. He would have had to deal with an infected person to know how it works so he's also probably killed one in close range not just with his traps.

I think we are purposefully not getting nonstop gunplay/violence because we are going to get that towards the end of the season. Though we see this world is brutal, we are mostly being shielded from the immediate violence by the storytelling. (We don’t see the two Firefly gun battles, for example.) This is to set up the devastating violence that will happen to lead characters later. Thus adding to their overall narrative impact.

Bill and Frank’s town not being raided as much or infected not appearing as much is kind of justified because of two reasons. The town is a on the country side where there is not a lot of chance of population being around as much. It also felt like really small town by the number of people FEDRA evacuates from the region at the beginning of their story. Fedra would have cleared up the other near by towns as well so less likely that infected would be around. Humans are also less likely to find their town because the town does not have any highways passing near by it. Joel and Ellie both take a small road to get to Bill and Frank’s which does not feel like an interstate or a highway. In the game Bill lives in a more city type region so it makes more sense to have infected there and not here. It also makes sense for the game because it gives the player something to do. The second reason would be because of the time jumps. They might have had previous raids as well but showing the raids for the sake of showing it to wouldnt really work for the story they were trying to tell i think. This could also explain why Bill got so cocky and didnt take cover while shooting at the raiders. Because in the supposed previous off screen raids the protected, electrified and apparently gasolined up fence would have taken care of a majority of the raiders and infected giving Bill over confidence in his ability to stop the raiders. The point of the love story is to make audience feel that there could be love in an apocalyptic grim dark world like this as well. At the same time Joel understanding the same thing as well is important to the story. He needs to understand and realize that his failures to protect the ones he loved shouldn’t make him lose all hope and stop him from trying or atleast this story is supposed to nudge him ever so lightly toward hope and not despair. In the game (unless you go back to the place), Tess’s death was never really shown to be processed or grieved by Joel. While in the HBO series, Ellie stopping short of reading Tess’s name aloud from the letter, Joel walking out to take a breather all make Tess’s death feel much more impactful than the game. In some ways the choices made in the series elevate the story even more than an already stupefyingly fantastic game.

@SueMyChin

The love story is utter nonsense. They are basing the series on a game about a post apocalyptic world of killers and zombies where there is no love story. Nobody watching this show is watching for a love story. It's as out of place as zombie horde in a sex and the city episode. I'm certain that wouldn't go down well either..
@ShadowProject01
@ShadowProject01 Год назад
@@SueMyChin you missed the point. The episode is a stand alone. Walking dead has plenty of people getting together and falling in love in a post apocalyptic world. Do you have the same criticism there too? If you do than points for consistency. If not then it’s just nitpicking. And lastly, the Entire plot of the Last of Us IS a love story. Joel learning to love Ellie as a daughter after closing his heart from loosing his own driving him to the point of dooming the world is a tragic love story. Did you not play it?

I didn't have an issue with the with bill being gay and showing the relationship between bill and frank. My problem is how they openly promoted suicide as a good ending for this couple. When frank in the video games would had never killed himself. He's a survivor through and through and they made him do this complete bitch move? Completely out of character, and very irresponsable for them to again promote their suicide as a sort of good ending or solution to their problem. As someone who struggles with suicide myself for years, that wasn't the way. Specially since it's not something the character of bill would ever do. I smell the agenda of population control a mile away. More gays, more trans, suicide is the way kids. You can skip this episode entirely and not miss anything.

What a load of bullshit Frank literally killed himself in the game lmao
@g.lowenklee2268
@g.lowenklee2268 Год назад
They "promoted" the slow decades long relationship between two people who grow old together, and how one didn't wish to be parted with the other to be left alone in grief. That some things are worse than death (a bleak and brutal life, the loss of a loved one, the loss of one's honor or dignity) and thus justify an early exit is a trope at least as old as story-telling. But now you have a problem with it? Because the story features a gay couple? LOL, the only suspicious thing here is your selectivity!
@abraham11071
@abraham11071 Год назад
@@g.lowenklee2268 You missed my point entirely. So again I tell you I don't have a problem with the gay couple, but how they butcher bill's character as a hardcore survivor and not only made him kill himself, but made that their "happy ending". @g.lowenklee2268
@g.lowenklee2268 Год назад
@@abraham11071 You can tell me that wasn't the reason, but that doesn't mean I necessarily believe you. Mostly because your explanation is somewhat stupid: Bill did survive, for decades, every successfully. Now he's old and doesn't fancy the prospect of being alone after 20 years of a loving romantic partnership. That's utterly and tragically human. Yet somehow you manage to inject conspiratorial nonsense into it, because that makes more sense to you than a very relatable human character progression? Or, because the series doesn't follow every aspect of the game... population control conspiracies must be the reason? Oh fuck off with that nonsense, LOL!

Though there were implications that he regularly dealt with infected there was not that same implication he did so with raiders especially with him shooting out in the open and nearly being killed for that foolish mistake. That made it feel like Bill did not know how to handle himself in a gunfight and was solely reliant on his traps. But I think where many people get the feeling that they did not contend with much was the other scenes of Bill and Frank living every day life like they were just in a suburb and not on guard like they had to constantly deal with attacks. Honestly it made it seem like they were cut off from the world where barely any infected or people ever bothered them.

I was really looking forward to seeing Nick Offerman (Bill) interact with Bella Ramsey (Ellie) as I thought the chemistry between the two characters in the video game was great. So I was a bit disappointed by them cutting that out from the show. I also felt like, because Bill doesn't interact with Joel or Ellie in the present, his character overall has less importance to the story. Nick Offerman was great as Bill, which only makes me more sad that we didn't get more time with him or have him interact with Ellie at all.

Absolutely, you could've shown a lot of that story between Bill and Frank still but keep Bill alive to interact with Joel and Ellie in the present and help them with the battery in the game. We could've had the best of both worlds--sticking to the game story and adding something new but this was way too unbalanced compared to the great job they did balancing old and new in the first two episodes. The story between bill and frank has nearly no impact on Joel and Ellie because they die before they arrive too. I mean, he could've voiced those same feelings directly to Joel at some point before they finishing getting the battery.

I liked this episode, it was done really well however I prefer the video game version of episode 3. Finding the clues to what happened to frank was so entertaining. The different traps and obstacles they had to do through to get the car was insane, it brought a lot of moment for character development and building more trust and father daughter relationship between Joel and Ellie. I hate how they just waltz on in and get a car. How was bill and frank supposed to defend themselves if it’s that easy to get in. Also why wasn’t there any signs of attack? Damage or burnt buildings when it cuts to 2023? They could have easily had frank mention that all his hard work repainting had been destroyed by raiders. Something to indicate that they’ve struggled a lot more as time has past. Also I felt really uncomfortable with the ex scene, it went on for too long. Just imply they’re doing it by them walking into the room together and closing the door behind them. I did not want to see their god dman chest hair rub on each other lmao.

Yeah, homophobic is supposed to refer to "fear". Uncomfortable by something is what fear is. Just like watching a ranchy scene with your parents makes you uncomfortable. Because of that, it's perfectly fine to FEEL uncomfortable by this stuff. I only point this out cause people will try to demonize the claim of "don't make me watch this" as homophobic. You pay for entertainment, that means the goal is to pander to what is entertaining. If a medium pushes the boundaries to the point of making you uncomfortable in an unwelcomed way, then it's completely failing it's primary directive. This is the ONLY episode of anything, any series, any movie, anything in ever, where I actually fast forwarded past some of the content. That's because my real issue with this episode. . . is that they made the characters even LESS important than they were in the game. Their entire significance to the plot could be summarized in the tea party flashback. That's it. Everything else could have been skipped with no significance lost. In the games, they mattered cause they gave you quests, objectives, interactions, banter. Here, they are nothing but a distraction from the plot rather than having an active role WITHIN the plot. That bothers me cause that means they objectively boil down to a waste of time. That's not fun for me, that's not what entertainment is. . . . that's what filler is.

@KoolKeithProductions

I'm not so sure about that. The bullet went right through, so as long as the wound was kept clean, Bill would be fine without Joel. Besides it was the middle of the night. Do we think Joel would have been up and ready to deliver life saving supplies then? Even if he left 1st thing in the morning, it would still be a while before he got to Bill. Plus, I think Bill would have mentioned in the note something like "I never liked you, or even thanked you for saving my life that night...", but there was nothing. But he is respecting her last wish and protecting the kid and even if he doesn't know it he is now making her a reason to live. It seems like most people liked this episode, but I have to be honest I didn’t like it *as a The Last of Us episode*, not as a show (which standalone would be great). They removed so much of Joel and Ellie’s journey and relationship with just a single episode. I mean, they entirely changed Bill and Frank’s arcs (Frank left and hung himself) and removed all of the banter and growth between Joel and Ellie, and the previously-hilarious Bill for that matter. Furthermore, changing Bill and Frank’s arc wasn’t even the issue, it was leaving out so much that hurts it, it could’ve been two episodes. If they wanted to spend an episode on characters that will be dead immediately (Bill doesn’t even die in the game) then why not show their impact on the main characters? It makes absolutely no sense, I’m sorry. This episode was basically a standalone series that has NO BEARING on Joel and Ellie other than leaving them a truck and gear. No infected, no bloater, no Joel hanging from a trap upside down, no surviving Bill’s traps, no escape with the truck, and no Ellie stealing shit from Bill. No bow, a smaller thing, no music shop, no gnomes, no “Bobby Fischer”… I can go on and on. I know it’s a show, they have to cut stuff, and it’s a reimagining of it clearly, but they cut the BEST stuff, the most important stuff to the characters who we are going to be with the entire time. Ellie hasn’t and never will meet Bill in this show. It’s just too big of a departure for me to feel confident in the remainder of the show. Anyone I told to watch the show will now have to play the game to know why I said that, which I suppose isn’t what I was hoping for. That’s kind of my own issue I know, they obviously want to tell a new story, I just wasn’t expecting that enormous of a change in the story I guess.
@Dustyphoto915

Tess struggles with a lighter to ignite the fuel around her when she just spilled a bunch of grenades on the ground (just use a damn grenade to ignite the fuel). Her death was mad stupid. Pedro's acting is so blank and generic. Ellie is running around like she doesn't give a shit about what's going on and she doesn't show any fear. Bad guys instantly get ignited by fire in soaking wet, rainy conditions (those traps were mad dumb and impractical). Episode 3 should have been its own movie, because that's what it feels like. Neil is pushing the woke narrative way too much instead of focusing on the zombie apocalypse. It's insanely tropey and lackluster.
