this is my favourite scene. because joel denies that no people will ever find them. but joel knows for sure that its possible. and switches into dad protective mode and zeros in over night making sure of it. so wholesome ☺️
1:33 that line is honestly the most worrying and horrifying part of a post apocalyptic world. No rules and no government in any place that isn’t a gated community. People are free to do whatever they want. Also that joke about the scarecrow between them was so heartwarming. (Spoiler) I’m not ready for that scene when Ellie runs away to the ranch thinking Joel won’t be with her anymore
This is why I dislike zombie stuff in general. It leans on the insanely reactionary, misanthropic, edgelord idea that people will just turn into animals murdering and robbing each other as soon as the veil falls. It doesn't make good fiction, but the reality would MUCH more likely be that people would do what they've always done, try to work together and form functional, collaborative communities.
@@gg2fan idk they gonna talk about it in next episode but Joel actually said in one of optional dialogues in the game that people at first they cooperate during early day of the outbreak but as times went on their supply starting to running low people starting to get desperate that's when they show what human are truly capable off
Generally expiration dates or sell by dates are there for maximum amount of intended taste. According to the FDA, You can eat food in cans well passed their expiration date, however if the can is damaged or rusting its signs that it is not edible. Given how much preservatives are in canned ravioli, id say the food is fine to eat, not the best, but edible.
It’s 20 years old. Fungus probably died in all infected food. Also, pasta takes time to make. Society collapsed to fast for contaminated pasta to be made, only things like pancake mix.
I would love to see anything survive the canning process. I HIGHLY doubt that fungi spores are more resistant to thermal treatment than botulinum spores. (hint almost nothing is. Hence why the food is still edible after 20 years).
Willing that to bet Joel was picking apart the ravioli to only eat the "meat" and minimize the pasta intake. He knows Ellie is immune which is why she can eat it whole without a care in the world. Clever.
It’s a good theory but more likely than not, he probably knew it was safe to eat and was just savoring it. It was probably produced way before the pandemic.
I LOVE this subtle storytelling: @1:10: Joel says "I figure I'll sleep tonight, and drive tomorrow all day all night..." @3:43: Ellie: "No one's gonna find us?" Joel: "No one's gonna find us" Ellie: "Okay." *Joel looks uncertaintly out* @4:25: Joel's up, standing guard, while Ellie sleeps
This just makes me think that if something like this happens, not a fungal attack, but simply electricity and power stations stop working, there will be utter chaos and lawlessness.
@@diditpermadi3467 its what was supposed to happen in 2012, the whole "end of the world" scenario was actually a massive solar flare from the sun that missed us by a few days, we will evenutally be hit by another one of that magnitude, and when it does, itll send us back to the western days and thatll be out most plausible apocalypse scenario
In my hometown a power substation exploded. Half the city was without electricity instantly. Every single bottle of water was bought up or stolen in 15 minutes. Couldn't believe it.
as awesome as this scene is, i came back to this clip for the music. it’s so majestic yet melancholy at the same time. gustavo santaolalla is a genius. i hope this hbo version of the score/soundtrack makes its way to spotify soon update: the hbo music dropped on spotify. but not sure if this is on it. going to dig deeper
I think the reason some people don’t like Bella Ramsey as Ellie is because the show’s Ellie looks more like an actual 14 year old than the game’s Ellie does. I like it.
Yeah I dont like her look or voice nearly as much as game Ellie which is too bad because its not her fault what she looks and sounds like and she turned in a great performance
I finally just watched this series. it's a bomb! the relational evolution between joel and ellie is finely done. the mutual attachment that is built between them is reinforced with each ordeal they encounter. very endearing characters. I do not know the video game but I became addicted to this series.
The actors for TLOU motion capture were great, but they were much more aesthetically pleasing in their post-animation models: Originally, Ellie was young and homely yet they added a sincerity to her looks. Joel looked strong and stoic, but he had elderly features (The concept art for Joel has him heavier, having little hair, etc). When they adapted the game, they balanced everything out. But if Craig Mazin overseeing Chernobyl proved anything, it's that the more homely looking actors provided the most incredible performances. It's like finding a diamond in the rough, i.e. casting the most average looking actors who are actually good at acting. Wish more movies did this.
Also gasoline has a shelf life of 3 to 6 months, while diesel can last up to a year before it begins to degrade.. i know Joel said they have to refill every hour but 20 years! I doubt that 🤷
@@HamZa-lp9pt this is so true. I have trouble starting my bike if I leave it for over one month due to bad gas (around here, 27% ethanol). Yet he takes 20 year old gas with no problem… bullshit.
Entire fungus outbreak doesn't make sense. Them not sleeping in car is hardly that irrational. On one hand, they would have to sleep in cramped space. On another hand, the odds of anything/anyone getting them here are close to zero. And if somebody found them, being in car wouldn't help much anyway.
one of the first things i tought about , why sleeping outside , exposed to whatever is a forest , being it animals , infected or whatever than inside the car where at least they won't be able to reach you
Having done my fair share of winter camping in Canada, if you have the right equipment, you'll be warm. Keep in mind the gear they have here came from a "survivalist". Good rule of thumb is natural fibres over synthetic. Wool sweaters/jumpers, goose down jackets and sleeping bags, and wear a hat on your head. Also, be like Shrek, wear layers. Reason for the natural over synthetic is on the microscopic level, the way the fibres weave into one another is key. In natural fibres, the interweaving is more chaotic and doesn't allow for air or moisture to get through. Synthetic fibres are more uniform and have tiny holes in them. If you're wearing a fully nylon or polyester jacket and get hit with a gust of wind in -20C weather, you're going to feel it, trust me.
Wait, why are they eating canned food ? I mean given how the fungus spread itself in the show wouldn't that be... risky ? Or rather given what Joel knows, wouldn't that be risky ? Or is the heat of canned food while manufacturing too much for the fungus ?
Going by the reviews on their website, you actually would be better off eating a 20 year old can than whatever shite they sell now. Another brand that changed their recipe to make it cheaper and completely ruined it.
Gonna be honest there is zero chance I'm sleeping out in the open during an apocalypse. At minimum, I'm doing my project zomboid plan Second floor, fire escape out the window, barricaded doors and first floor windows, bedroom second floor, destroy stairs if possible Making a few safe houses a-la LFD2 while you're going there would open the trail for future transport
They are travelling daily, they can't find a set up that specific every night. Driving way off the road into the woods for the night would be safer then in a building in this case. Less likely to be found by anyone passing through it you get away from the road.
If anyone showed up and they were asleep, robbery is the least of Joel and Ellie's worries. They probably would have shot and killed Joel first, and then had Ellie every which way and left her with a bullet in her brain.
why tf are they sleeping on the ground instead of in the bed of the truck? all your bodyheat gets sucked right into the ground without some kind of bedroll. these shows are made by people who have never gone outside or camped in their lives.
@@currymitch5119 the truck is literally right there and is the difference between waking up freezing and waking up warm which would be pretty important in a scarce survival scenario. This wasn't by design, this is because these shows are written by effete urbanite bugmen who have never been in the bush in their lives.
