Makes it worse for me. That was the first theory people came up with back then and people also thought it was too cheap to be it... I remember someone asking Neil if Joel was alive, he said he was... well...he wasn't lying, he was alive for 20% of the game... Good game, shitty story
I was there, and let me tell you, the energy in that room from beginning to end was crazy! We all had a feeling it was Part II, but actually seeing it being revealed took it to another level. I still get goosebumps watching this!
True but it makes sense why she didnt the only thing that dont make sense is why they had abby eat her fuckin fingers like she didnt lose enough in her life
RU-vid Algorithm has a sick sense of humor recommending this to me today edit: guys appreciate the likes but I'm getting way too many notifications lol
Literally just cried seeing this again because it means so much to me. It reminds me of the hype i had waiting for TLOU 2, and also just the day where i saw this for the first time and jumped around my room in excitement. Easily my favourite video game reveal trailer of all time and this crowd reaction is iconic too
@@houstonwegotaproblem2244 hahaha you must have shit taste. The game is a masterpiece and well deserved goty. You're just mad they killed of Joel which basically shows you clearly don't know hoe story telling works. The characters serve the narrative dumbo 👌
I love it when they don't announce what the trailer is and everyone gets hyped when they know what it is. Their shouts of excitement always sends chills down my spine.
You see, this trailer indicates the story about ellie and joel getting revenge on somebody(probably over dina or someone else's death) but the final results shows otherwise
It's amazing how well-crafted this trailer is from a pacing standpoint. It's like they knew exactly where the crowd would cheer and made sure to leave room for that.
@@LaneCarter basic revenge story. And at the end you let the main person go after killing half the city. Imagine in last of is 1 instead of meeting Ellie and bringing the whole father daughter relationship. They instead make the whole game about Joel going and killing the organisation who's responsible for his daughter death. It's like... That's it? I knew the plot 30min in the game. Cheap manipulation tactics of Ellie killing dogs while Abby pets them. Sorry I won't like her no matter how many dogs she Pets. Gets the best weapons and gameplay to push the whole female/trans empowerment
i really wish this scene was in the game. it’s so beautiful yet hauntingly devastating at the same time. make you wonder what would of happened if they stuck with this and ellie indeed had this moments where she saw joel and talked to him while on her seattle journey after his death
Its not for a reason. I dont understand why people are hating on the game now because of this trailer. Its the same as the trailer we got of dina kissing ellie, it wasnt in the game because we already seen it and something we already know happened. Do you really wanna go through with this? Is him asking her if she wants to go risk her life to kill them all. Now we know exactly what that ment with the game out.
@@michaelweisneck276 but Dina kissing Elli during the dance scene was in the game, it's one of the last cutscenes. But yeah, showing her talking with his ghost wouldn't really make sense, she only has flashbacks when she sees or hears certain things, like the wood that fell over when she brought in the sheep. All the other flashbacks are only for the player, not something she had in mind
love how this teaser takes on a whole new meaning after you know what happens in part 2. this moment could have easily been inserted into the game at some point. Ellie imagining Joel asking her this as she seeks revenge for his death. She sets down the guitar, turns back to the doorway, Joel is gone, the light’s gone out of the room.
in the developer commentary, neil druckmann the director said there were early talks in the writing room about joel appearing as a ghost but he said they “thought it’d come off a bit too campy”, which i fully understand
It works in the trailer as a non canon scene. But these ghost scenes in movies always feel so unreal. And the best thing about TLOU is how they make it feel like everything could actually happen in real life. Doesn't feel sci-fi, everything feels so realistic. The ghost scene would ruin the game. But I love this scene for what it is, outside of the game.
@@patriciajin6206 Welp, truth to be told, I liked both of them, they both had their own good parts, but, if I would have to pick one, I think, it must be the first one, because it was kinda a big deal, on his time, and, it for sure made me experience stuff I never did before, so yeah, first one, for the nostalgic memories.
the fact that the trailer literally gives spoilers about what the game was going to be about it's mind blowing, and it's so fucking brilliant that Joel asks Ellie and she responds like it's a promise she kept for him. 10/10 game
Lol. People were so deluded into thinking she wasn't avenging Joel, like who else is that close to her that she'd travel to a different state to hunt their killer?
I don't know why all the hate for game but what I know this game has amazing graphics gameplay mechanics and amazing characters so if someone can explain to me why all the hate?!
Karim Houry Because it doesn’t hold up well story-wise as a sequel to The Last of Us. Joel’s story is tragic.. he lost everything and found a daughter with Ellie. He made the ultimate sacrifice to save her. Then, in The Last of Us Part II, both Joel and Tommy apparently become stupidly tame with strangers and give them an over abundance of information. The girl who just so happens to want revenge on Joel is there, and she kills him at the beginning of the game. You play as Joel for literally 5 minutes. All the possibilities for a better story are immediately tainted because it was told poorly from the start. Characters are also coming and going left and right with no context whatsoever as to who they are until later, when you don’t care anymore. While I agree the gameplay is really fun, mechanically and whatnot, it’s not crazy innovative or anything. It’s almost the exact same as before. And you do it for 20+ hours until you reach the unsatisfying end. I won’t spoil it but.. oh boy.
@@octavioaguirre6240 I've had a bit of a change of heart with this game. I still don't love it, but I appreciate a lot of aspects from it. Probably because I've been playing it a lot. I spent 60$ on it, might as well right? The Last of Us world has always been morally gray, everybody has to do what they need to so they can survive. Joel's death just seems like the ultimate price to pay from his actions. The world could have been on track for a full cure, but given his relationship with Ellie, and as Tommy said; I can't say I'd have done different. It felt rushed and awkward but playing the game again with more context helped a bit when it came to Abby's presence and the circumstances of Joel's death.
Except it was tommy who revealed his and joel's identity to abby when they were chased by a horde of zombies and didn't have the time to think about the consequences and couldn't expect her to attack them after they saved her life.

I love when she says "I will kill each one of them" because she refers to each of those responsible for Joel's death. Also the fact that all of them were turning up dead represents how dangerous Ellie is.
@@Skikopl she did get enough of what she wanted but if she pursued revenge fully, what would she get from that you know. I thought it was touching and she learned a valuable lesson
@@zanemichael8045 which is why I Love rdr2 because it had the same message but delivered in a different way, they actually let you kill micah but that results in John getting tracked down by the pinkertons and losing everything he spent years building along with his life. both tlou2 and rdr2 had the same “revenge bad” message but only one of them does a good job at delivering it.
The trailer makes sense in retrospect as if Joel was a portrayal of his memory in her eyes, sort of a way to let her cope with her loss. Might be why the trailer didn't include Joel's face. Ellie both leaving behind a trail of dead bodies in her wake and Joel asking if she really wanted to go through with it as though the disappointment of Joel lingered in her mind throughout the journey of revenge she had in mind.
Doesn't change the fact though that the story is pretty shit and justifying the trailer is almost a coping mechanism at this point. As a standalone game, maybe it would have worked. As a sequel to one of the best games, it is just bad
I think it would have been cool if she had hallucinations of him there in the game when she's all alone and scenes like that, where they are talking but it's all in her head yk

Plus they spat in the faces of the original fans. nobody wanted dead Joel. Just the loud ass minority.
Abby doesn’t actually ask for his full name until after she shotguns Joel in the leg. Just imagine “are you Joel Miller?” “No, Joel Jackson.” “Oops, sorry about the leg bro.”
It‘s not a plot twist. The door with the light is symbolic for heaven. I don‘t get why people say it‘s false advertising. Like I knew about it almost 4 years what‘s gonna happen in the game.
Thanks to the leaks, I've cancelled my pre-order for this game. Such a disappointment. Edit: Leaks were all spot on. This game is dog shit. I fucking love how everyone's been trash talking in the replies saying the leaks are fake. Lmfao enjoy your game clowns.
No matter how many times I watch this video, I get goosebumps all over. This is the most well made teaser I've seen for a game, it doesn't give away anything solid about the plot but it succeeds in capturing the atmosphere and emotion of the game perfectly, and the symbolism present here is subtle yet brilliant. It can be agreed that Part 2 was heavily flawed but I can appreciate what Neil did with the story, even if I don't agree with all of it. I look forward to what they have in store for Part 3.
+P C I don't even want to hear more about it. I just want them to wait until it's ready, do an announcement and say it's coming out later in the year (most likely 2018) BOOM......Drop the mic and walk off the stage! Best announcement ever.
KichGaming true. if it's not coming out in 2017, then i don't want any e3 trailers.would be the best to do it fallout 4-like: trailer at e3 and saying "it's coming out in a few months"
I'm saying let it cool now. Especially after the recent E3 trailer. If that was actual gameplay then I'm floored. Its smooth as butter and oven never seen a better enemy AI or main character react as amazing as they did in the recent E3 gameplay. Doeant even seem like it's running on a PS4 and if it's not then I guess I have to wait to see what it'll be on because when I actually get to to play it, I want it to play just like it did in that demo. It's bad just look at player ratings. You can like it though just don't go around saying that the majority liked the game cause that's what you part 2 lovers always do
They weren't scared, they knew damn well what they were doing. Joel (specifically his older self that we expected) was put in so many scenes for the trailers where he actually wasn't in the game
I can understand misdirection. But not lying. That just hurts. I expected Joel to be there and to help Ellie with her revenge mission. Because that's what they showed us. Then they just put out a completely different story than the one they presented. They didn't tease. They lied.
If I'm not wrong, thats Tommy, not Joel. They just make it seem like it was Joel. But think about it. Why would Tommy ask Ellie what is she gonna do about it? And Ellie replied she is gonna kill each and every one of them (who killed Joel). That makes more sense.
To me it was pretty obvious that Joel was dead as soon as I saw this trailer. The symbolic imagery of Joel entering through white light and Ellie crying tears of blood basically gives it away.
Musab Albarbari Well at that point nobody knew what the game was about or what was gonna happen. They laid the foundation with the first game and shitted on their entire fan base in the second. People were expecting more Joel and Ellie time, not this dumpster fire.
