Excluding the BOAC retro 747 which is preserved, 13 British Airways 747s flew to the ECube solutions part out / scrap facilities in St Athan Wales and Castellon Spain.
The last remaining British Airways 747 at ECube solutions, G-BYGD, is now in the process of being broken up (October 2022). This film shows the final months of the aircraft from 5 different moments in time:
End of September 2022
End of August 2022
November 2021
September 2021
and early 2020 when the 747s were still in active service with British Airways.
ECube solutions provide aircraft disassembly and storage for many of the major operators; with sites in St Athan Wales and Castellon in Spain. British Airways have historically sent many of their 747 fleet to St Athan for break up and part out when they reached the end of their working lives.
From March 2020 and then following the announcement by British Airways of the immediate retirement of the entire 747 fleet in June 2020, 13 747s were sent to the Ecube sites for break up and part out at St Athan and Castellon, Spain. (this excludes G-BYGC, the preserved BOAC retro 747 which is stored at another location at the airfield.)
G-BYGD flew the short journey from Cardiff to St Athan on 27 November 2020, as BA 9152 and survived in different locations across the airfield for almost 2 more years before the scheduled breakup in October 2022.
Here is my farewell to the last of the BA "Queen of the Skies" remaining in St Athan. The end of an era....
