This song helped me to alleviate my torments in a very difficult moment, I first saw the movie, I understood more about spirituality. I thank God for giving me peace in my life
I am a woman and The Last Samurai is my nr 1 music to let my thoughts run looking back to life and the world how it is today. It gets more sad every day. It hurts my heart that huanity lost its respect for all life. Lost compassion, forgiveness and are lost about the difinition of love between all people.
"Tell me how he died" - "I will tell you how he lived" As long as we as individuals don't forget the meaning of the old virtues but choose to live by them, they won't be forgotten and words like Honor, Respect, Loyalty and Courage will never become mere words.
Yet today those words are slowly being forgotten. We honour and respect popstars and celebrities more than war heroes. The youth of today take so much for granted. "Shall I think of honour as lies, or lament its aged slow demise?" One or two bright flames amidst a sea of darkness is all that is left.
The samurai were usually associated with a clan and their lord, and were trained as officers in military tactics and grand strategy. While the samurai numbered less than 10% of then Japan's population, their teachings can still be found today in both everyday life and in modern Japanese martial arts. A lot of respect to Japan and the culture, that is simply perfect.
Simply perfect? Working till you die for your "Daimyo" aka company is simply perfect? Nice view on that fact. Or the high ammount of suicides among young people because of the social pressure?
@XxX Guily King XxX funny fact: most of my japanese friends also hate the fact that the society think that they should sacrify themself for the company. And by the way, you should read proper. I only wrote that die for a company and the high ammount of suicides amoung young people in Japan based on social pressure is not "simply perfect". And really funny thing: I lived in Japan for a while ;)
“When I die, don’t come to my grave to tell me how much you love me and how much you miss me, because those are the things that I wanna hear when I’m still alive...”
@Rasta Fonz Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die. Ms. Mary Elizabeth Frye
"There is so much here that I'll never understand. I have never been a church-going man... ...and what I've seen on the field of battle has led me to question God's purpose. But there is, indeed, something......spiritual in this place. And though it may forever be obscure to me......I cannot but be aware of its power. I do know it is here that I have known my first untroubled sleep in many years." - Captain Algren.
"Everybody is respectful. Everyone smiles and bows, yet beneath their mask I can sense a deep reservoir of feeling. They are an intriguing people. Every waking moment they are dedicated to the perfection of whatever they peruse. I have never seen such discipline."
It's a quote from the film. The character has deep regrets from his past and is depressed with the world until he sees beauty in it again while living with the samurai.
Captain Algren question God's purpose after seeing many horrible things in the battlefield. He is a soldier that carries very heavy memories of the past within him. Every soldier has nightmares, specially the ones ashamed of what they have done. For me, to be able to finally have a peacefull sleep is a sign of progress and real success in life. Agree?
Once you look at the picture and listen to music, the imagination takes away to another world ... one of the best and most amazing films I have seen ... so perfect.
Hans Zimmer is truly a musical genius. That said, his ability to find the most amazing musicians to interpret the notes he puts to paper, who can transform those notes into an emotional experience, is probably the biggest gift he has. The written notes are meaningless if the musician playing the notes simply plays what is written.
To be mindful, to forever be a student, to be the master of none, is to understand that there are no limitations, no definitive ends & much & more to be gained.
Man, I hate girls like you. Always something spiritual to say, but cannot understand how to tie their shoes. (If you're on your period and I made you mad, I truly apologise)
I was so obsessed with last samurai . After watching this movie 😂 for over hundred times i thought that only i who has taken this movie as a spiritual guru, but I am mistaken, there are so many people like me. I owe a lot to them and so so many thanks .
Soma There are many of us like you who crave a higher meaning and a better path for our lives. It is not just a great film but a “gateway” offering a glimpse of who we MIGHT BE if ONLY we “Do what we can until out Destiny is Revealed” Thank you for sharing your quest.
"Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a teapot it becomes the teapot. Water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend." - Bruce Lee.
do you have the courage to do so? (not courage as in bravery, search up bushido to truly know the courage in bushido way) www.artofmanliness.com/2008/09/14/the-bushido-code-the-eight-virtues-of-the-samurai/
Watched the Movie first when I was 15 . I am 30 now and i am still watching it from Time to Time . A masterpiece that brings me back on my feet , just remember who you are and what you stand for. Integrity.
if you know something about the old japanese culture, bushido, honor, buddhism, integrity, the nature of the mind and the purpose of life, if you have feelings about such concepts, then this music will touch inner parts of yourself -as the film does-, and Hans Zimmer helps to get, to feel such touch, may be even to get a little bit elevated in some special moments of the soundtrack... Thank you Mr. Zimmer for your sensibility.
what a great tribute to the mighty samurai warriors please when i mentioned that i would like to have this music played at my funeral service when i depart this materiel world i would feel privileged to have this music as i respect the samurai warriors for the way they lived and trained ☯️ won't be sorry when my time to die arrives long live bushido
"Dying not accomplishing your goals is not shameful, when it comes to choosing between life and death, the only way out is the fast death" This is something I remember from reading Hagakure, I find this statement to be quite profound.
Nobody truly understand what Bushido entails in present times, as it stands, it's highly debated in present day japan by scholars and historians. Fascinating indeed.
The downside of the Bushido code is that it favors the concept of "dying swiftly and honorably" over the concept of "live to fight another day". This could actually hinder a person's or a nation's endeavor to achieve victory.
Tom Cruise’s best movie by some distance. I think he raised his game in this one as he was surrounded by so many actors giving superb performances. Excellent scripts, beautiful scenery and poetic music were the icing on the cake. One of my top half dozen films ever.
The part at 5:50-7:20 is pure magic. So beautiful ... like this film, the whole soundtrack and the time when they released it. For me its pure memories ... 2004 was my year, one of my happiest ever in my life. Ill never forget all this beauty that ive experienced and maybe some day ill face it again like the perfect blossom.
For those who witness this story as a samurai too and was present in this field of battle. For those who died for the sake of honor, values, and pride. We will always remember you threw our energy and your's dancing together in a raindrop on a blossom. 🙏🏻
This music is a masterpiece for a very wonderful film that takes you to the world of tranquility, tranquility, distance from human intrusion and the philosophy of life in living with the samurai, adapting to the goodness of people and thinking about the interest of the community in self interest
Fun Fact ;) The real story is about a French officer called Jules Brunet. He was supposed to help the shogun form a modern army. When the pro-Meiji started to overthrow the Shogunate he was called back, France was officialy neutral. But he decided to stay with his men and the pro-shogun faction. Unlike in the movie, he wasnt alone there were some other french officers who "deserted" to stay in Japan. They even participated in the creation of the first republic in the History of Japan. The republic of Ezo, on the Island of Hokkaido. Fortresses were build on the island in the french Vauban style. The republic of Ezo asked Meiji if they coul keep their independence from the new imperial Japan, which he refused, and crushed Ezo. Jules Brunet survived and safely returned to France, and his adentures became insanely popular.
Well this movie was a little bit too Black & White from what really happened. The samurai were an estate like the European nobility, not peaceful farmers and spiritual idealists. They rebelled against the government reforms primarily to protect their old special privilege in society against the peasants and the state. Pretty much the same as was going on in Europe in the 18-19th centuary. Guns were also quite standard among the samurais and had been used for centuaries, they were never considered dishonoring. This is still one of my favorite movies regardless, and bears a strong message that becomes ever more relevant with each passing generation, each technological advance and political achievement. It was beautiful and well made.
At times we all question our existence on this earth. For myself I found that spiritual growth bring us to understand the universe and have contentment in life- nothing else matters
"Bushido is realized in the presence of death. This means choosing death whenever there is a choice between life and death. There is no other reasoning." -- Yamamoto Tsunetomo
AllGoodNamezGon when all you have to think of is sunrise and sunset, a meal to eat, friends to laugh out with, a family to rest upon. Free from new technology. Your mind is focus on philosopical point of view and not from nonsense matter.
This was another wonderful film wonderfully acted film and set off beautifully by a magnificent soundttrack that is unforgettable. It is up there with another wonderful film with a beautiful and superb soundtrack, The Last of the Mohicans.
You hear this stuff and you really miss the masterpieces Zimmer made in the late 90's and early 00's. I feel Inception was a closing of one era and start of another for him. Ever since that movie (and the Batman series), he incorporates that Zimmer horn in almost every soundtrack and the main themes are all 4-5 note cues.
I miss my mate who i had the privilege to take to see this movie I hope and pray that he gains the strength and tenacity to overcome the adversity that tried to take over his life think of the mighty samurai mate and Bushido you will win the battle mate ☯️🙏
