Having lived near and used both stations regularly, it's somewhat sad to see them go, but I'm keen to see what the new layout will look like. Mont Albert is a beatufil little station but suffers from being skipped by express trains, meaning you're always getting a stopping all stations (up) or a Blackburn (down) to get somewhere. Surrey Hills is better in that regard but is on a sharp bend so makes it a very narrow platform directly in front of the station which makes it slow to disembark in peak hour. So bring on the new configuration I say! You can't stop progress:)
Thanks for a great video. It is a bit sad to see Mont Albert and Surrey Hills stations go. I have visited them on many occasions over the years. I have yet to visit the new Union station, which looks quite interesting from he photos.
i realiise the reasons for getting rid of mont albert and surrey hills, but damn i'll be sad to see surrey hills go. during my school days, my dad would sometimes take me to the union road level crossing after school and we would watch a few trains go by. we even had our own game which i nicknamed train betting, where we had to guess what direction and service type the next train would be.
