👁 About this video : In today's video we take out the 2020 Fiat 124 Spider Abarth for it's final ride! This is such a fun car to drive! It's lightweight, handles incredibly well and with the manual, it's just a ball to drive! My favorite feature is the manual top! While it's not an automatic which does make it cost less, it helps to reduce weight and it's quick and easier to do I think compared to an automatic top. In a matter of seconds you can put it up or down and be on your way! The interior has plenty of space for the size of the car and the movable cupholders is a great touch to help maximize space. The trunk is tight but you can put in some bags for two people. If you are buying this car you know what you are getting and either have another larger vehicle or don't have much other than yourself to go from point A to point B. The exterior lines are really nice and I love the design of the DRL's! This is an easy car to drive or learn how to drive a manual because the clutch is lightweight and the shifter is very smooth and direct! It sounds good as well and I hate to see this car go! Do you think something should replace it or should it go on for another year!?

I love my Abarth 124 spider. I'm not surprised that Fiat is discontinuing it. I have only seen 3 others on the road in NY in 2 years. I love the exclusivity.

Most people here in Germany dont know this car either. But they are thinking in the right direction, calling it a Ferrari or a Maserati. Its a baby version of those brands. :)

Great review! Disappointed to hear they won't make them anymore. I think they took all the good things from the Miata and made it even better. If they have some leftover engines Mazda should bring back the MazdaSpeed and put this engine in it.

@@BrosFOURRSpeed I wish Mazda would offer the Spider as a different model/style. I have a '17 Spider and love it to death, but hate to give up the classic styling if she ever wears out. FCA did a crappy job in marketing the Spider and now that they've been discontinued, people finally know they exist and WANT one.

Just got my Abarth in January and this is very sad, but just like everyone else is saying I can see the Miata more popular! What sold me over the Miata was the body, looks sportier for me. But I’m also loving how on various occasions people ask me what make and car I have, love that that I’m probably like 1 of 2 people who have this car in my city!

My parents got the first year they produced it which was 2017, it’s the abarth manual and it’s a fun car. The reason why fiat is discontinuing it is because Mazda doesn’t want to supply them the chassis and let them use their factory anymore because the 124 spiders were out selling the Miata, so Mazda was the reason they stopped production

Don't know where you got that from. Everything I've read as pointed to the Fiata not even moving 2K units while the Miata regularly sells near 8K.

The car is being discontinued because the 1.4 liter motor no longer meets European emission standards as of 2020 and US sale were horrible. Fiat sold about 50,000 spiders of all flavors worldwide over a 4-year period. Less than 15,000 cars a year for the entire world. Honda sells 35,000 Civics a month...

Great vid! Last year I bought a new 2018 Lusso trim 124 Spider, bronze metallic. I love it! It's too bad they're being discounted but I understand. Most people want plain looking suv's not sporty two-seaters. Their loss! In the past two years I've only seen three other Fiat Spiders on the road in here in Phoenix.

Being a new Fiat 124 Spider Luss-owner myself here in germany I also regret Fiat will stop production. Such a great car and better looking that the MX-5 Miata (to me). Hope at least Mazda will carry on because initially they got in touch with Fiat to carry on production of the platform in general. Should be more cars like this: lightweight and SO MUCH FUN to drive! :-)

I test drove a 2017 Fiat 124 Spyder Abarth. Saw a video review in early March 2017 & had to drive it. I liked the styling & the interior Red tach in the instrument cluster was a nice touch. The problem was the clutch felt heavy & the shifter had a funky shape. 2 times I stalled the car from a stop thinking I was in 1st when it was in 3rd. The throttle response was slow as the Turbo needed some time to spool. The drive train lets down this car. Next day went to the Mazda dealer for a 2016 MX-5 Club with Brembo / BBS package test drive. What a difference in clutch feel ... very light easy with a ball shifter & instant throttle response ! That impressed the hell out of me. So much so I had to have that car ! So that MX-5 Club is what I'm daily driving here in Northern Illinois. Awesome car even in winter with the snow tires ! Sorry to see the 124 Spyder go away as a choice is always a great thing. I emailed the local Fiat / Alfa Romeo dealer with my thoughts on their 124 Spyder & why the MX-5 won the battle.

That's interesting to hear the difference between the two from your experience. I didn't feel those issues with the clutch/shifter, but I've been in both and they seem to drive similar to me, but have fun with the club!

@@BrosFOURRSpeedCould be Fiat fixed those problems in later years of production ( except turbo lag ). The 124 Abarth you test drove had a louder exhaust than in 2017 too because I remember a 500 Abarth drove by while looking over the 124 & it sounded Bad Ass !

I've been in the market for one of these and was wondering what type of fuel you put in it. I know the owner manual states that the car should receive premium, but can take regular. I think the car has a knock sensor which changes the timing of the ignition caused by the difference in the fuel quality. Still, I would like to eliminate knocking altogether to preserve the engine.

If it is tuned for premium, then thats what it needs. Or you can cause damage with pre ignition. Not work it for couple hundred bucks a year difference in gas price.

The reason why is gone is because fiat stopped to produce the 1.4 mutiair and needed to put the 1.3 turbo firefly on this baby to keep selling it, but didn’t want to invest not even a penny on it even though it was doing ok for the brand and the niche market.

The biggest problem this car has is that nobody knows it. Its a very exotic car, even in Italy and the rest of Europe. Fiat doesnt do any advertising except for youtube for this car. Also they didnt calculate the prices correctly. At the beginning of the production the car was sold here for 43,000 EUR msrp (including tax). Who buys a Fiat for that amount of money? Also they continue to have a slight image problem, because of how they did cars 30 or 40 years ago. They are called out to be unreliable, but actually this is not true. The cars are fine. However, I dont like the dealerships here in Europe at all. I have very bad experiences with 3 dealerships. Two in Germany, one in Italy. They are the worst. No one wants to sell a car, no one wants to help, if they do repairs they do the worst job ever. My car has still warranty, but I dont bring it to the dealership anymore. Just let some independent mechanic work on my car. He does a better job and is less expensive and faster.

That's the info that was given to me by the salesman so that's what I went with, but I have seen 4 HP. Doesn't make sense to only bump it up that much.

The problem with this car is that the windshield is too close to your head (especially the A pillar) and it feels claustrophobic... 8:12 and not enough recline in the seats. Not comfortable to drive.

My uncle is a Miata/124 enthusiast and currently has 2 Miata's, he's 6'4 and keeps the top off for the most part, but has plenty of room and loves the drive of these! Guess it depends on what you like.

Great video-it’s basically the perfect combination of Italian style and Japanese tech, with the Brembo engineering thrown in -I’d much rather have this than the Mazda and you’re lucky you can still get it as the Spider’s been discontinued in most of Europe for the past two years. Hopefully they’ll come out with an equally impressive EV version soon

They are fun to drive even with the "lack" of horsepower. It's so light weight and nimble, it can charge hard through the mountains! You don't need a ton of power to have fun!

I suspect most people don’t know they are made by Mazda. I saw one and immediately wanted one. Just beautiful! Finally found one in Tucson. I like that they will continue to be a rare car. Nice to drive a sexy Italian body on a reliable Japanese platform. Best of both worlds.

I love my Classica to death but sometimes I do regret not getting the Abarth version. I'm 100% biased but I think they should keep making them. Like you said, it's INCREDIBLY fun to drive. I love taking mine around turns. It's a fantastic daily driver as well. I've been daily driving mine since December and the space has never been an issue. I've always had plenty of room for groceries and bags. The MPG you get is pretty good as well. This is one of those cars that I plan on keeping in my garage even after I get a Toyota Supra (or C8 Corvette, haven't decided between the two yet). The 124 Spider is my first sports car so it'll always hold a special place in my heart. I'll be sad to see them discontinue it, but if the sales just aren't there, I understand.

Well reading these comments everyone is so upset about Fiat discontinuing this car. Well "News Flash" all of the auto makers are discontinuing cool cars. In a few years we will have nothing to choose from but a crossover. Well if everyone stopped trying to be like other people and actually buy a nice car like this, maybe they will not go away. However, I guess it's too late for that, as far as getting sports cars like this and hot hatches like the Ford Focus RS will never comeback to States all because people want to be a bland and boring Honda CRV.

Bros FOURR Speed it’s a good video, and one of the only featuring the 124 spider in Mare Blue. Towards the beginning of the video when you list the cars color is when you said it; mare as in a female horse instead of a hard R.

I have the 2017 model since new. No issues in 3 yrs. Also it's literally identical to the 2020. Maybe they updated the GPS map.

This one is already turbocharged from factory. It's a tune away from making big power unlike the Miata.

It's a beautiful car, but let's face it, it is a Fiat. It's a car that I would buy if I had money to burn, and I didn't mind expensive repairs down the line. You can appreciate something for its aesthetics, but understand that beneath the surface it is pretty much crap. If you can pick up the Abarth model for less than 28,000 out the door, then that's a pretty solid deal.

Fair enough, not sure how much different it is under the hood from the MX5, but it should be similar and the Miata's are pretty reliable.

once they are gone the used ones will hold value like s2000 the reason they are probably discontinuing is the people shopping in their price range for a second car can’t afford it they can’t raise the price and for what you get it probably costs to much to make as you what they can sell it for

I'm not sure these will hold value like the S2K, that was an iconic car. Nothing special about the Fiat. But most people were buying the Miata MX5 because of it's popularity. Fiat couldn't keep up with the Miata and I think Mazda pulled the plug on their cooperation with Fiat, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

This is for the US market, I think. Our Abarths in Europe have 30hp (170hp) more then the normal Fiatas (140hp).

@@bigmacdaddy1234 listen very carefully to what i say ok. right i have driven over 2 million miles in my 40 years of driving cars ok. i can tell if a car is any good within a few minutes. ok right with this pos fiat it was painful from the word go trying to drive in slow traffic. the lack of power below 2000 rpm is a joke. the pos has trouble pushing the car along below these revs. the ride is harsh as fuck and not comfortable in any way. as i stated here before if this pos car 250 bhp i would probably recomend it as if it was fast then it's terrible downfalls would kinda be ok THIS POS IS TERRIBLE TO DRIVE ABOUT NORMALLY OK. IT'S SO UNDER PWERED IT'S A FUCKING JOKE. no wonder nobody ever bought one and fiat never sell any cars. buy the miata ffs..the NA 2.0 is way better.
