I do not own the copyright this video Original aired May 6,1987 Pee-wee and Joan Rivers are making live crank phone calls on Joan's show Guest stars Pee Wee Herman, Lisa Lisa, and The Cult
I honestly think the uneasiness between him and Letterman was what made it so good. I do think Dave genuinely enjoyed when Paul went on his show. I know he put on a douchey attitude back then but there's a bunch of interviews where Pee-wee got Dave to crack a chuckle.
So cool for Joan to sincerely appreciate the genius that is Pee Wee and not treat him like some freak, like other Hollywood celebs would. Kudos to you, late, great, Joan Rivers.
I am 63 years old and I still have the Pee Wee Herman doll that my sister gave me some 30 years ago. I keep him and his suit clean and sparkly! RIP Pee Wee! I love you!
@@grantdamsgaard2702 He looked very very similar throughout the years. He was very sick with cancer I guess for some time. He decided not to share it with the public, which is completely understandable.
@@aarondigby5054 Your sons are slightly older than me, but so many in that age range loved Pee Wee as a kid. I remember watching Pee Wees play house and Pee Wees big adventure for the first time at 4 or 5, and I loved them. I watched the movie over and over at that age, and over the years as a kid I watched in many times. Pee Wees play house I remember watching on the weekends. Even as an adult I have seen the movie big adventure quite a few times, it brings back memories. Many young kids throughout history have been interested In Pee Wee. RIP Paul Reubens.
Pee Wee's Playhouse was a program for adults. I watched it every Saturday. The inuendos were funny as hell. Went right over the kids' heads. The camping episode, with Cowboy Curtis was FREAKING EPIC!
Agreed. My wife and I enjoyed watching the show as did our young children but for different reasons. Now they are grown and can appreciate the adult innuendos.
Joan is one of the few people who lived a seemingly incredible life full of success in the industry but still managed to get robbed of her full potential. She would've been a fantastic latenight longterm host if Carson's ego hadn't saw to it that she wouldn't. RIP, Joan.
Telling my 26 year old son just now: When I first saw Pee Wee, the character was so complete, natural and classic I thought he was reviving an old Hollywood character from the golden age. So for about a year I told people PeeWee Herman is an old comedy guy from way back and this guy brought him back. Found out no, I was mistaken. But, THAT’S how original and flawless Paul Reubens put this all together. Mr. Bean is another genius character of that caliber. Barney Fife, Freddy the freeloader and others. That’s the class Pee Wee will be in forever. The very best.
I HATED him until he made that movie. I loved single-speed bikes and the moment I saw that movie poster and I knew I had to go. I have loved Pee-Wee with all my heart ever since. He's a true genius and history will remember him with love and respect for the joy he's brought to our tiny slice of the Universe.
Dehydrated Water ok. Joan died from a medical procedure gone wrong. All because she referred to Michelle Obama as being a man? Oh! Ok... I see the connection. Yeah... that makes sense. I was gonna say ... nah Your right How stupid of me to think otherwise
And I always felt sad when he climbed back on that scooter at the end of the show. It was like the day after the Summer Carnival left the school parking lot, and you'd walk through all of the discarded popcorn boxes and the empty cotton-candy cones and you knew Summer was almost over and Winter loomed...
The main thing that strikes me about Pee Wee is that his audiences were half laughing at him and half laughing at his act. And the immeasurable amount of courage it took to do his act.
Joan Rivers is so gracious in this video. You can see how comfortable she made him, and he is so much funnier because of it. I wish Joan Rivers' talk show had a longer run, but Johnny Carson wouldn't let that happen.
I started a singles ministry at FBC Milledgeville, GA. One of the things we did was rent the movie Pee Wee Herman's Big Adventure (Alamo) and watch it as a group at someone's house. The ministry is still going strong. I laughed so hard. I was impressed to know he went to the circus school in Sarasota, FL. He didn't go into his comedy without a lot of preparation.
What the f*ck happened to television? It’s so awful now. This run with Joan Rivers and Pee Wee was like getting to watch a free off-Broadway play, while sitting at home.
fuck NO! PeeWee spent year's developing his Character, and in 1 flash lost it all... for what so many at the time did every day!!! I thought he got robbed!!! Paul Rubens.. I love you Still Fuck all those Hippocrates!!!
My world has been a little bit sadder since losing Pee Wee. He was an amazing entertainer and capable of handling both drama and comedy effortlessly. RIP, Paul. Thank you for the post made my night,
Oh my god, I was watching this when it aired!! At 13:44, they put the phone number up and I reached for the phone, with not a clue of what to say, but I didn't get in in time. By the way, that NEVER happened on TV back then, that they just randomly put up the number and took calls, live on a prime time show. Donahue, sure, but not as a comedy bit like this. Remembered this moment like it was yesterday, but hadn't seen this clip in, what now, 33 years. Unbelievable - thanks so much for posting!
This is great. Two of my favorite people in the world, they were perfect together too. It's like a precocious 8 year old showing off to his aunt that he sees once a year.
So glad I got to grow up with Pee Wee! His spontaneity, improv and ad lib are marks of a true comedian, not just a comedic writer. I think of Patrice O' Neal... What strikes me most about this interview, is the raucous laughter from full grown adults in the audience. I always thought from his Playhouse that his humor was aimed towards kids. I was so wrong.
This clip just popped up! I have always loved Pee Wee!! I haven't laughed so hard!! I remember those days, hilarious Paul! Where are you, please come back! Thank you for years of laughter, still laughing! Love you, Cathrin from Westchester, CA
I'll never forget the first time I saw him on TV. I think it was the Johnny Carson Show. I wasn't really paying attention, but suddenly became aware this guy. It struck me as the weirdest thing I'd ever seen.
Oh how I miss Joan Rivers, and now Paul Ruebens. I replayed the very last part at least six times when Pee Wee hangs up when Debbie said she was 'somewhere around 32' 😂😂😂 RIP Joan and Paul.
Almost Serious ya they were totally into it! SF crew and that’s where I’m at, but they made us put our phone into a lock bag- super lame. Pee wee was so laid back, just talked after for an hour.
This is such a wacky and entertaining video. Remarkable that they gave him this massive chunk of time on this show-- proves how fond Joan was of Pee-Wee/Paul. He is so winning and silly.
This makes me think of the commentary in the pee wee's big adventure DVD, which is mostly paul Reubens pointing out some prop in every scene and saying "i still have that"
