Peter Vaughan tests the newest campervan from Malibu, a Carthago company. The Diversity 600 DB K - based on the six-metre Fiat Ducato - comes with a fixed double bed layout, a cleverly designed washroom with slide-away toilet and lots of premium touches. As a Charming GT Skyview model it also has an overcab sunroof, while the Family-for-4 package adds a pop-top roof to make camper into a genuine four berth.

The 640 version has the bed running lengthways, and you can sit up in that as you are effectively against the rear doors. Of course you can still lay width ways if you choose. Diesel truma is a cost option too. I think the port hole windows in the rear set the van apart from many others, and if you dont choose the pop roof option,you get 2 additional skylights. Personally i think its exceptional, would love to have one.

Good review as usual Peter. Love the shower room & the seat material. Can't imagine being shut in there as a family of four on a wet day. Cheers K.

Add a free-standing and I think you'd be OK, or younger kids might play in the roof. Seeing the rear bed as somewhere to lounge would help, too.

Nice looking van and colour scheme. A lot of money and still using gas bottles. For that amount of money it should have been an all amenities electric van with solar panels and lithium batteries. Great review as ever 👍
@MotorhomeCampervan
@MotorhomeCampervan Год назад
Gas is still more flexible for most owners, although I'd be tempted by the Truma Combi diesel option offered here. You'd spend a fortune on lithium batteries and inverter to go all electric and then still probably only have a couple of days of off-grid capability. Thanks for watching!
@SqwarkParrotSpittingFeathers
Better to have gas but as refillable, as in the Autosleepers. I’ve replace my old style metal cylinders with, I think it’s called, SAFEFILL, plastics bottles. Saves weight and, refilling is cheaper and, easier than on the continent as swapping British cylinders is apparently almost impossible.

@MotorhomeCampervan

It depends what you do everyday. If it's A. take kids to school, travel to the office and come home via the supermarket then it is a bit of a beas, or if it is B: visiting family, exploring national trust properties or going fishing, sailing or on walks it is ideal. I did A for years, now I prefer B.

Yes, there are so many 'vans like this - it would be great to combine all the best features in one model! Agree, the Truma Combi D suits these 'vans well, but the installation needs to be right - I experienced one (in a UK 'van) that was really noisy

Love the look of this type of camper, but can you get away with using campers this size as a day vehicle or are they to big/high for daily use??
@MotorhomeCampervan
@MotorhomeCampervan 3 месяца назад
A lot depends on where you live/drive/park. Height will be an issue if you need to use multi-storey car parks. If that's not an issue then the 5.4m 'vans are better than 6m for daily use (easier to almost fit into a car-sized bay). Take a look at this - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UwbSX5a3nOw.html or this - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K_ABKvFFFdg.html

Bit more expensive than my Malibu. That waste water system is a pain as the down spout is underneath the van (not quite central) so unless you have access to a drive over drain you have to crawl underneath the van with a bucket or buy an additional hose system (attached by crawling underneath the van). Those tambour doors seem to be an improvement on the plastic flaps system we have in our bathroom.
@MotorhomeCampervan
@MotorhomeCampervan Год назад
Most campsites (or aires) have a drive-over drain. I much prefer the Malibu system to the cheap fiddly drain taps fitted on some UK 'vans, which take an age to empty.
@philipellis7039

How long did it take to remember the names and prices of all the extra packs Or did you have to do a lot of retakes? I like to lounge on the bed to read or watch your videos away from the TV and my solution to the overhead cupboards would be to sit with my with my back to the washroom wall.

I'm puzzled by Malibu campervans. The quality is undeniably a class above most other brands but why do they stick with those bulky caravan style windows? The same goes for a LED strip/rain gutter above the sliding door; you can't have one.

Maybe they use those windows to go with the optional porthole ones? No idea regarding the rain gutter, though.

at 09:53 where you have that space for gas locker, i think is better to be removed, because these days we can use to cook our food with ayr frier and is best as cooker plus is electric, so having that gas thing inside the car is not also a good idea...better, to use that space for a frige, is better....

Love Malibu but the concept of this being for 4 people is hard to imagine in a campervan....motorhome maybe but there just isn't enough room to all move around - especially on a grey wet day in Whitley Bay!
@MotorhomeCampervan
@MotorhomeCampervan Год назад
But four people in Spain, living mostly outside, would be great. Add a freestanding awning and Whitley Bay would be OK, too - we manage perfectly fine with two adults, two kids and a dog in a T6!

@@MotorhomeCampervan Adding a freestanding awning on top of 4 people plus their baggage etc.. how much weight headroom is there? You can forget bikes. My wife and I have a Malibu Charming 6.3m but just cannot imagine 4 people and we are close to the weight limit at times

No review is complete without talking usuable payload. Manufacturers website indicates weight is c.3200kg even before the pop top is added. Assuming that is roughly 80 kg of extra weight, you would need to uprate this van just to make it useable, adding cost and licence complexity and for my money, taking it out of campervan category. You cannot review campervans without reviewing payload - these reviews are already very long, and overly detailed so why no mention of this critical metric???
@MotorhomeCampervan
@MotorhomeCampervan Год назад
I think it must have been edited out by our videographer in error - I always include weights normally. In standard (quite basic) spec, the Diversity has 685kg payload on the 3,500kg van. That's without the options, Charming GT Skyview or Family-for-4 roof. Exactly as tested it has a payload of 366kg. Not huge but I've seen 4-berth 'vans that are a lot worse. A 4,000kg chassis is also offered, at extra cost of course.
@Madonsteamrailways

@MotorhomeCampervan
@MotorhomeCampervan 6 месяцев назад
Try spec-ing a luxury car (Porsche, Bentley, etc) and you'll see that the options on this are nothing in comparison! It's just the German way of doing things, so you can spec the 'van exactly as you want and not pay for features you don't want.
