"The Unborn is not something difficult to attain; it is not something distant.
It is not something we have to search for; it is not something we have to
discover. It is something we already have, right here, right now."
- Bankei Yōtaku. Dogen & Hakuin
Zen Buddhism is a major school of Mahayana Buddhism that originated in
China and later spread to Japan.
The term "Zen" comes from the Sanskrit word "dhyana," which refers to a
state of deep meditation and awareness.
Zen emphasises the experience of direct, intuitive realisation of the nature
of reality and the attainment of spiritual enlightenment.
There are two names considered most important to the development of
Zen are: Dogen & Hakuin
Dogen Kigen (1200-1253) was the founder of Soto Zen.
The question that Dogen became obsessed with as a young man and which
motivated his search for truth was:
Simply put, the answer that Dogen came to was that practice itself was an
expression of enlightenment.
Because of this conclusion, one of the main practices of Soto Zen became
Shikantaza.
Shikantaza means just sitting.
In Shikantaza one merely sits. There is no practice of concentration nor of
breath counting, etc..
One merely sits.
As Dogen said: “You cannot get it wrong.”
Soto Zen is known as a gradual enlightenment school, meaning that one
over time eventually realises their inherent Buddha nature.
Hakuin Ekaku (1686-1769) was the founder of the Rinzai school of Zen
Buddhism.

Bankei sounds like a guy who was probably hilarious to be around. It sounds like he really understood how life can all be one great joke if you let it. Saying "Just sit and you've achieved Zen" was probably both hilarious and absolutely serious to him. In a way, it understands everything, and then mocks it in the way only true understanding can. It is quintessentially knowing that both everything and nothing matters. Neither contradicts the other, but rather, the juxtaposition of the two is, in itself, a hilarious joke.

@dorjedriftwood2731

It is not a joke. It is not serious. These adjectives are “forms”to use his terminology. If you want to understand read the Buddhas teaching of the four extremes. If you do not understand the four extremes you will always fall back into conceptual habits. All that can be described is conceptual. Enlightenment is not anything, it is what springs from that state which is funny, or beautiful, or any other thing that life can bring. Enlightenment is truly just undoing the mistaken identification with these attributes rather than that which transcends them. May you be free. Tashi!

Of all the Buddhist things I have studied and read this one makes the most sense. We already have enlightenment, but it's within us the whole time. Our thoughts and opinions like our bodies have a form, and everything with formed begins and ends. But Enlightenment and Consciousness are formless, unborn so to speak, yet ever-present.

Shiva is in me, Shiva is outside of me. everything is in Shiva hence everything is Shiva/Shakti, YingYang. even his humanoid form is one of the manifestations of itself (that's an example of omnipotence that it is not limited and stuck in one state). infinite in finite (so deep almost illogical but there is only logic in the depth if understood properly). All paths are same and lead to same goal. like all rivers flow in same global ocean. with different flavours only so choose what you like. it's also freedom of reality so the freedom and bondage are balanced afterall. basically scientifically it means pure nondual energy shakti / quantum field is manifesting into everything that exists and is present in everything(everyform) that exists and it's always in state of samadhi/nirwana/kaivalya/yogasth/sukladhyana/ultra-instincts which has potential to create this world. just like in dream state whole dream world is manifestation of the pure consciousness which is nothing but that pure energy. so Shiva and Shakti are one and the same coin with 2 sides. like a flame is same but has 2 qualities heat and light. pure consciousness/pure energy is the fabric of existence and everything is vowen with it and dissolved in it. all ancient Rishis(sages), buddhas, Yogis, Siddhas, Aghoris, Sanyasis, Sadhus, Sants, priests teach same thing and different parts of the same thing but still they fight as if they are talking different thing how shameless. those who fight have lost the way not enlightened. they expose themself 😂. such is that beautiful/intellegent ultimate infinite nondual reality. This is the next step beyond existentialism! Literally, this is the best answer to nihilism I have watched. Well, it also takes solipsism into consideration. Literally we don't know nothing for sure, we are our own perception of time and experience. So we can't ever prove even the concept of ourselves exists because time is an illusion of that consciousness, and we think we are consciousness because we know about our memories of existing. So in the end nothing is really meaningful, nothing has a purpose and we don't even exist, so, let's have the best life we can and satisfy our desires and feelings of obligation while limiting our worries but without feeling shame about having some. Let's live the best life we can create, because that is what you will do regardless. This even fix the problem of the universe being deterministic.

What a compassionate being to bring o us such a basic and easy message!
@moonsod1113
@moonsod1113 Год назад
You think that is an easy message? If it was thousands of buddhists would be enlightened now, and they are not. And why not? because the mind cannot see beyond itself, and the unborn is extremely subtle and ungraspable by nature. As soon as you seek to grasp it it retreats into itself. It is unborn because it is unmade and everything else is made and has a form. The formless does nothing, has nothing, is nothing; and the paradox is that it is everything, infinite and eternal, the Unbecoming, the unexpressed, the Unmanifest Timeless. It is always there, so why is it not seen and known? Because we are always looking somewhere else, at form and structure. It is a complete abstraction. So seek the Abstract, not the phenomenal. Do not look at what is there, loof for what is not there. And where is that? In the abstract and subtle regions of consciousness, and that means we have to let go of the exterior and surrender to the most inward and fall into the Nameless reality of not-isness. You cannot use the mind to find the not-mind. All you can do is to allow everything to be as it is and just rest, relax, and be at peace. Then you abide in Infinity. This is my everyday reality. All we can do is to learn to collapse and surrender, and that is not at all easy for a restless mind. Enlightenment is abstract consciousness which is just there, nowhere, and not looking for anything. For me the key was to open up to the formless abstraction of life and consciousness, which is Nothingness and Silence, the none-movement of mind, unmade and uncontrived.

He lives in a four by two glass box that reminds me of my head I wish my floor would have rocks, but it's covered with puddles instead If I could be him, life would be great I could erase this permanent frown I wouldn't even be held down by my own weight I woke up walked to the tank to hear his thoughts on yesterday "How was it?" I asked And after a tap on the glass He looked my way then gave me this depressed expression And pressed his best just to say; "Besides the tides and the grey skies, it was ok!" And I said< "Hey mister fish, you did all that you wish You got nothing to complain about while hanging out in this abyss" And he replied "Well existence is bliss, there's so much that you missed Besides get off the trip, happiness is just a myth" I said "Living in water is extremely more peaceful than life confined to a mind Blinded by evil, and forced to see through these two peep holes It seems I've redeemed freedom, not being limited by walls But that only means I qualify as ground for the sky when it falls That only means I qualify as ground for the sky when it falls That only means I qualify as ground for the sky when it falls That only means I qualify as ground for the sky when it falls' But Mr. Fish just laughed as I went on and on and on So I interrupted his chuckle, putting up a middle finger And he boldly told me it's too bad I'm such a thinker So Arrogantly I asked "How could someone think too much?" He added that insanity lingers and thoughts brought me to the brink of such He said "You live inside a head that reminds me of my glass box And everyone's the same; all brains are contained by your reality frame And chained to the terrain, it's trained not to change And once you see what I've explained you hit the jackpot" And at that very moment it was like my eyes really opened The air that previously surrounded me was now an ocean Still totally invisible except for minor pieces of debris Then Mr. Fish pushed up to the glass and he looked just like me My whole world spun around, I didn't understand But I realized I was no longer a man So I thought about what he said and asked him what was going on And he said, "You didn't know it but you were the fish all along" He said, "Congratulations, you did it, you broke free You're just a fish, like the rest of humanity" Now it took me a long time to get adjusted to this tank But now I know what I am, and so to that man I give thanks I've always lived inside this glass box that reminds him of his head It just goes to show ya that your mind is your own monster Reality is what you make it, and if you take it away You're just a fish, like me, swimming in the powdered water. In case there are those who wish to demonise Zen, I would advise against it - it is a fundamental truth so close to us, yet so few can obtain or even understand. If more people can know it, then maladies like anxiety, depression can be 100% treated and a person can truly live free, and even if you were other religions - you can 'know' God through it.

Easier said than done. While accepting that there is unborn (eternal) behind everthing, is a big big step that 99% of peopulation don't even want to accept, even after accepting/acknowleging it, living the remaining life (and maintaining same at your death) is the most difficult part and that is where practices of meditation comes to help your mind not sway around from what you have understood and accepted that there is unborn (eternal) beyond this existence and nothing that happens in this existence matter (or even other levels of existences).

Well, in this case, look for Frank Kepple. He discovered what Monroe was trying to understand, but did not understand. For instance, Frank was able to understand that we live in a system comprised of four major areas of consciousness. One is the area of physical objective worlds and their manifestations, another is the objective non-physical world, another the subjective non-physical world, and the other the area of creativity. In fact, through his out of body experiences, he was able to understand that in truth we don't reincarnate.........that what we see as our past lives are actually the lives of our counterparts. He was also able to explain the fact that karma is nothing more than a religious belief system.

Unborn = Being aware of being aware.
@raycosmic9019
@raycosmic9019 Год назад
@Matt Mackane That which is, that is nothing in particular (actual), is by definition everything in general (potential). Potential = Being Actual = Becoming (actualized) Because the potential for actualization is Infinite, the actualization of potential is Eternal, for only Eternity can fully embrace Infinity. The consciousness teachings are also known as concession teachings, as they are a concession to a more limited level of Understanding, a Piscean as through a glass darkly teachings. Now, in the Aquarian age, we can see face to face with crystal clarity. Otherwise, we are stuck with consciousness functioning consciously and unconsciously simultaneously, which is self-contradicting. Since Creative Intelligence functions consciously and unconsciously simultaneously, consciousness is what something does, not what something is. That which is/That I am. Freedom is a Way of Being. Being aware of being aware is unmodulated by the 5 senses, thus unfettered, which is the resonant inner state frequency closest in alignment with the frequency of the all-inclusive Absolute, where all things are possible (Wisdom and Understanding). The Rhythm of Life is a movement and a rest. The optimum (Heaven), is always found somewhere between the extremes of too much and too little (hell). Pleasantness is the Rose found at the Heart of the Optimum. Just so. Narrow is the Way, and few there are that find it. The only illusion is the illusion of duality or separateness. We are all It, to an unknowable/inexhaustible extent, as the facets of a Diamond are 'both' distinct from each other 'and' the Diamond itself. Love is the recognition of our shared Being. What appears as separate and opposite, is in Reality - Continuum. This is a fragment of the highest teaching. Let those with the eyes to see and ears to hear do so. Namaste'.

The essence of Patanaja Yoga is very similar to these ideas - but modernity, and it's inhabitants, has insisted on twisting the body and mind into knots and now a HUGE majority of 'practitioners' would not recognise the teachings even when explained as beautifully as this. 1. Now, yoga instruction. 2. Yoga (union) comes to those who are able to still their reaction to the 'born' of their own mind. 3. At this time, the 'unborn' is experienced. 4. In all other times, only the 'born' is experienced. These are Patanjali's first 4 sutras. All other sutras are incredibly insightful, but these are the foundation. Shanti.

Contemporary Japanese Rinzai is derived entirely from the Ōtōkan lineage transmitted through Hakuin Ekaku (1686-1769), who is a major figure in the revival of the Rinzai tradition._

Hakuin Ekaku wasn't the founder of Rinzai Zen, Rinzai Gigen was; hence the name. Rinzai is a lot older then you have described it as being and was the form of Zen taught in Japan when Dogen was growing up. The Tendai tradition that Dogen was a student within Japan is a form of Rinzai. Furthermore, Dogen was not the founder of Soto Zen, he was the person who introduced Soto Zen into Japan. Therefore, it is often explained that he is the the founder of the 'Japanese' school of Soto Zen. He was taught Soto Zen during his time in China. Also why change what Dogen said about practice being enlightenment itself. You have said practice is an expression of enlightenment, but that is not what he said he said 'practice is enlightenment'. It is important not to get that correct because if practice was merely an express then enlightenment itself would appear as something detached from enlightenment and, for that matter, detached from daily life. Factual inconsistences like this just tell me the video is pointless to watch.
@powers4579

true its anubhav/experience. because realisation can also have errors of assumptions. experience is direct witness. This ls exactly Advaita Vedanta (Nonduality/Shiva) the Atman/Brahman, the unborn/ajanma is eternal, infinite, formless, beginningless, endless, absolute ultimate nondual reality and is in all forms hence all forms are manifestions of it and exists in it only.
