What a great idea Daniel! I would love one of these…..Someone should produce them please!

I tried Daniel’s setup a couple days ago. It took a couple sessions to learn to use it and get used to the feeling of being harnessed to the wing. It was certainly an arm saver and great for riding hard upwind. I thought it might be cumbersome in a jibe. But, surprisingly, it made jibes easier because the wing continued to have pull during the hand switch. I don’t look forward to sourcing parts. But, I do look forward to being able to spend more time on the water without wasted arms.

I wanted to try this out but don't use the same kind of leash as the one in the video (or have the parts). I use a standard 6' surf leash as my wing leash and attach it to my impact vest. I tied a short cord with a stopper to the line of my wing leash using a blake's hitch knot, which grips the leash and stays in place when under tension and can be moved when not under tension. This allows you to change the length of the harness line while in the water. Seems to work well. Thanks for the inspiration Daniel!

Thanks so much for sharing. This looks like a great idea to combine the harness line with the leash & stay hooked in. Just wondered if it also works for flagging out when wave riding or if it could easily be unhooked while foiling?

Concept is great, incorporate the leash somehow, but with the hook you don't have to remove any hands for it to swing free. I like the simplicity of this but I am sure it has room for innovation. Great job!

This is really cool....form and function....Kyle....after watching you ride in PCB, I realize you have a unique stance with your feet fairly close together in an X type pattern most of the time.....can you do a stance video and include the foot swap? Aloha

@TheOKKiteboarder 2 года назад
Hey Rush! Although my stance may aid in foot switching proficiency, it probably doesn’t help me in wave riding and pumping. I’m not sure giving advice to adapt my riding style to others would be beneficial. You are correct though, the counterbalance and narrow stance, I believe helps me immensely with jibes and tacks. Some would say…it also makes me look like a kook.

I wonder if the toggle shape (the ball) could be tweaked to release at a certain amount of force like in a crash. I'm thinking something more cone shaped. I'd want to be released in a big crash.
@wildhogget69
@wildhogget69 2 года назад
Yup this is my comment as well as with the hook, both hands still on the wing and it swings away, but what a great design if we could incorporate the leash into the build.
@mortenjensen2298
@mortenjensen2298 2 года назад
Great idea 🤙 As I see it, then you stay connected for the main part of you session ? If this is so, then I belive that the leash part isnt to any use ? Couldnt one Just make a straight connection from harness to wingstruthandles or boom ? Making it adjustable, so more distance when going out and once on the go, Just pull in on the adjuster
@TheOKKiteboarder
@TheOKKiteboarder 2 года назад
It would be difficult in my opinion to have enough trim space when mounting your board. Being able to reel in the wing with a leash gives you some room to get on your board. Also, you can’t ride the nose of the wing while hooked in and there’s frequent times that you come in and out of the harness aspect of the setup. When crashing you also want to be able to come out of the harness, leaving just the leash aspect.

I tried this today. I can tell how this is going to help although I'm struggling to hook it in when I ride. So I basically hook in while kneeling and then pump hooked in. That did feel quite awkward though. Any tips how to hook in while foiling?
@oceanlance
@oceanlance 2 года назад
I took the tip from the mayor to go a bit downwind while hooking in - still struggling. I guess I need more water time.

What is the depower strap for?. Once you have the lenghts worked out,do you need to adjust that strap while sailing?
@TheOKKiteboarder
@TheOKKiteboarder 2 года назад
You can easily adjust the depower strap on the fly. Daniel doesn’t trim his, but I do. Maybe closer for driving long distances upwind and trim out some when carving and jibing more.

Just wondering how important it is to have the fixed line at the wing or can that be sliding between the two line attachment points that are designed for a harness. I assume it would act as a traditional harness set up. And are there any advantages to either. Thank you very much for posting this I have a good friend that has severe medial epicondylitis and can barely hang on so I'm getting this set up for me and once perfected it will allow him to ride pain free. So much appreciated 👍
@TheOKKiteboarder

James, you don’t want that point to be able to slide easily on the go. I use it on a wing stick, but it doesn’t slide that span easily. Let us know how it goes. Thx!

I got the marine eye eye swivel but it feels too heavy and I would be at risk of getting hit by it. But I don't have a wing leash that has swivel itself. I wonder if the spinner is strictly necessary?
@Foilfun
@Foilfun 2 года назад
You only need the heavy swivel if you're loading it with the harness and your weight. I don't use one anymore. I use one small swivel at the wing now. I know some leashes don't have a swivel, but not having one twists up and stresses the leash line.
