I think season 3 is their masterpiece. It’s so well written, the characters and ideas are brilliant and the way each episode intertwines is genius.

I agree, although it took me a few rewatches over the year’s to realise this. I also remember finding it really strange that there’s no laughter track, but it was the right thing to do not having it. Series 3 feels almost like one big movie to me.

This season has grown on me a lot over the years, though it did feel like a huge change at the time. Mostly because I enjoyed the sketch format of the first two seasons. This is more focused on individual storylines, although they do all tie together. It’s still superbly written and acted.

Sometimes I wish they had done the whole series in this cinematic style without a laugh track. Laugh tracks are a bit passe these days.

@@rumourhats Yeah, I don’t particularly miss the laugh track. Just enjoyed how the first 2 seasons threw different characters and scenes at you. You never quite knew what was coming next. 3 plays out much more like a comedy drama, which is fine also. I enjoy them all.

It was the first season I saw on digital TV and you got to see the next episode immediately if you changed channel. I'm Alan Partridge season 2 came out that year as well. Both were a bit different at first but I really like them now.

Pauline's 'candle' remark was referring to their use as sex toys, i.e. heard in a convent, "Candles out, girls!" Slurp, pop!

Do you realise that all the main characters are played by the same 3 guys, the 3 main actors. Steve Pemberton Reece Shearsmith and Mark Gatiss. Between them, they play something like 90 odd different characters, including Men and the women. Lol. Brilliant.

The red carrier bag is a nod to the “6th Sense” movie where there’s something red just before a haunting although there aren’t any hauntings……this is a series of contemporaneous stories and events culminating in their climax just after the appearance of the red carrier bag

The guys were/are real film buffs, there's references to lots of film all through the series i.e. Micky standing on the table when Pauline is sacked... Dead Poets Society.

Season 3 just knots everything together perfectly and they focus on characters a lot more. I really miss this show.

I don't know how far ahead you are watching them so I won't spoil anything, but some of the classic characters pop up here and there and there's plenty more lunatics in Royston Vasey to be getting along with. I can't wait for Psychoville and Inside Number 9 though the latter is very different with each episode and the halloween Number 9 sticks out in my mind. I hope the other Bottom Live shows pop up on my screen soon :) Having a full on Bottom show to watch with you is fantastic! And I hope you do the League of Gentlemen's live shows too :D Oh and I'm not sure if anybody's recommended The Mighty Boosh to you yet? Trippy as hell and very funny.

This is such an underrated series of the show - it was brave of the League of Gentlemen to change things up and centre each episode predominantly on one character. (Spoiler - Geoff Tipps and the businessmen return in another episode). They deserve credit for taking risks. This series was important in the development of Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith as writers and at a retrospective event about their writing /performing partnership that was held about three years ago this was the episode of the League of Gentlemen they chose to screen

It's cool that they tried doing this series in a different way, but its not nearly as good as the previous two series. I do like how each episode ending intertwines tho.

i personally think league of gentleman is very very tame never liked it myself its nothing compared to the other show pemberton & sheersmith created `inside no.9` very good mystery & twists in that

Log is brilliant, but inside number 9 is better. Wouldn't really call it tame though
