In this week's video, Chuck gives a quick look and overview of the Master Tools Little Wonder. We've had several requests for a Chuck video on this machine and he was happy to oblige!
This machine comes out of the box, ready to use for setting #104 tubular rivets but it has many other attachments available that are easily swapped out so you don't have to spend a lot of time changing dies between attachments. We hope this video is helpful and gives you a closer look at what the Little Wonder can do!

Our Little Wonder and Mighty Wonder are two pieces of equipment we wouldn't want to work without. We bolted our Little Wonder to a 36" stool to make it easy to move around the shop. Wife works on one side of the table while I'm on the other. If she needs it she can easily move it over to her side and same for me. We were thinking about craft shows and portability, hence the stool. Works great for us. Grey Skyye Leather Co = a Weaver shop for the most part. =) /waves @ Chuck!

I like your videos, but unless I watch them on my big screen TV, I can just barely see the details of what you're trying to demonstrate. You could solve this by bringing your camera in closer. Thanks for what you do!

People complaining about the price, but I’m glad we have a quality made in USA option. With manufacturing being off shored, all of the tools have been off shored as well. I’m done buying Chinese tools that are still expensive, never work right to begin with, and break after a year. I’m about to junk a $2,500 sewing machine that’s a giant steaming pile of Chinese trash. I’ll gladly pay more for quality tools that actually work and last.

I wish Weaver would come up with an affordable solution for a embossing stamping machine that could hot stamp initials and names on small leather goods. The only things I can find are machines on Amazon or old machines off eBay like a Kinglsey.

I am so IN LOVE with this machine. After 3 years of convincing myself that I am going to keep making and selling my leather goods, I am finally “ investing “ and perhaps appreciate this machine even more now that I have had my fair share of struggles, offset rivets, pounding and time eating mistakes. In the words of Maria Kondo, the Little Wonder “Sparks Joy” 😁

How do you set up and use a strop? Which compound to use,? flesh side / grain side? When and why? Etc
@WeaverLeatherSupply
@WeaverLeatherSupply 4 года назад
Hi Michelle! A strop can be just a piece of natural veg tan leather - it doesn't have to be attached to anything but it can be fastened to wood for a more stable strop. We would recommend either jewelers rouge: www.weaverleathersupply.com/catalog/item-detail/65-2937/jewelers-rouge-4-oz-/pr_8710 or Honing compound: www.weaverleathersupply.com/catalog/item-detail/65-2734/micro-fine-honing-compound-bar/pr_59820 Just apply this to the flesh side of the leather and strop your knives and blades regularly to keep them sharp. If you let the blade get too dull, you'll have to actually sharpen it with a stone but if you strop between use it should keep your blades sharp for a long time. Here is a video Chuck did on stropping if you'd like to take a look: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-phAeANzrP2w.html

Deerskin is way to light for a holster. Is it with hair on or off? You will have to use a backing material like a 3 or 4 oz leather, depending on the thickness of the deerskin.

It is with out hair 1/8 to 3/16 thick soft like a shammy. Light tan . Thankyou for your reply.
@WeaverLeatherSupply

Like, Fran said, you will need to line it - if you line it with veg tan then that will give it shape and body since deer tan is usually pretty soft. Hope that helps

Hi Chuck, very busy with my own leatherworking projects. Making a suite of armor for my wife ;-) (got some time on my hands due to me being at home...something with corona virus...) I've got a question. Can you antique only a certain part on a project? Or is that difficult to do and will it get messy? (just to highlight a carved logo on a chest piece and not the rest of the chest piece)
@WeaverLeatherSupply
@WeaverLeatherSupply 4 года назад
Hi Bernard, Very cool! It sounds tedious for just a small piece you want antiqued but it's best to antique the entire piece, otherwise, you will see where you started and stopped with the antique. Hope that helps!
@FUBARguy107
@FUBARguy107 3 года назад
In my mind, to antique a smaller area use a small paint brush and use some very gentle painter tape around the area to help avoid going too far.

Chuck, I have such an issue with snaps. The 5/16 post ones you sell on Weaver should work for what leather weights? If I'm going through two layers of 4-5 oz it's usually not an issue, but when I try to go through a single layer (like a pouch flap) it twists or flattens the post. I saw your video on setting them, but I'm still having issues. How much post should stick out? I assume if it's proud of the button it's too high?
@WeaverLeatherSupply
@WeaverLeatherSupply 4 года назад
Hi Myke, The post should be about 1/16" longer than the leather it's going through. If the post is going crooked or flattening, then it's probably too long for the leather it's going through. The 5/16" inch post work great for an 6/7 oz up to about 8/9 oz. which would make sense that they work for your two layers of 4/5 oz. We are adding shorter post snaps soon so keep an eye out for those. They should be up on the site next week sometime and we'll try and shoot you a message when they are up.

Thanks for sharing! Quick question - could you go over what temper of leather works best for different projects (especially in veg tan)? I understand what weights are best, but temper is still confusing for me. Thank you for all you do!
@WeaverLeatherSupply
@WeaverLeatherSupply 4 года назад
Hi Deneena, It depends a little bit on the project you're working on. Soft tempered leather is usually used for bags, purses, things that don't need a lot of body. Natural veg tan leather will have similar temper no matter what weights you have - it can be molded, formed, stamped and tooled and it will hold it's shape. Bridle, Harness and skirting leather will also have a firm temper. Something like a milled or tumbled veg tan will have a softer temper and wont hold it's shape as well. See if that helps.
